in respect. to. this is g.w. news live from berlin tonight from search to rescue twelve boys and their coach trapped inside a cave in thailand they've been found alive but their ordeal is far from over authorities in thailand warning that it could take months to rescue the boys and their football coach from the flooded cave system where they've been trapped for ten days monsoon rains are also threatening the rescue also coming off the german

chancellor angela merkel meets her coalition partners as she fights to keep her government afloat but the social democrats are demanding more time to consider a new migration policy thrashed out with her hardline interior minister just twenty four hours ago. and a narrow one nil win over switzerland since we've been through to the world cup quarter finals well there meet the winner of tonight's clash between england and colombia. often it's good to have you with us it is a race against time and the weather authorities in thailand attempting to rescue the twelve boys in their football coach trapped deep within a flooded cave are facing a dilemma tonight monsoon rains could flood the k. . further but extracting the boys quickly would require first teaching them to dive
10:02 pm
and then leading them along a dangerous underwater route and considering how weak the boys are this option is dangerous and the alternative would be to leave them on the precarious ledge where they were found perhaps for several months or that would require patience and hope that the monsoon floods do not rise before they receive. the rescue workers pumping water out of the cave complex might be fighting a losing battle they're sucking up millions of liters of water but that may not be enough to allow the boys safe passage out nevertheless they're buying coordinate his time to decide how best to proceed with the rescue. if the water level goes down the kids will be able to walk out from the front of the cave if not they might have to die if they dive they'll have to use a face mask. but concerns are high the
10:03 pm
diving could be a risky option considering the boy's weak physical condition and lack of diving experience another option could be to keep them where they are to the water subsides but with the rainy season just beginning that could see them stuck there for months. if. you think four months or. so that would be quite an operation. to. the cave complexes located in the remote chung dry region not far from the border with me and. the group is located around four kilometers from the caves entrance
10:04 pm
through a series of narrow passage ways. divers film the boys on monday after being lost for nine days. say they're mostly in good health and are safe for the time being have now received medical supplies and food. from the thai capital bangkok the country's prime minister hailed everyone involved in the search and rescue effort as heroes. i would like to say. thank you to all the foreigners who have come to help this would not be successful if we did not get help from everyone lending a hand in whatever way they can the state workers civilians and private companies are all selfless and their accomplishments allowed that by with more rain full cost crews have been spreading gravel on pathways and roads laying the groundwork for a long and jewish rescue operation. what are the rescue options tonight to talk about that i'm joined by niels boyish from the german cave rescue
10:05 pm
association he has extensive experience with large scale rescue operations in deep caves mr british we certainly appreciate you taking the time to talk with us today i we have heard several different possibilities for hell rescuers could should proceed at this moment i mean what do you think is their best option. the best option it's difficult to say here from germany there are talking about two options at the moment i still see a third one that did maybe can reach the cave system by shafts directly from that stuff ace because the cave collecting the water from the surface we're passages down to the water level and maybe they found there another passage that would be defined as option the kids down and they can leave to cave on the driveway
10:06 pm
that but that would require time because the rescue workers they would have to find this shaft that you're talking about right. right and the chance to find it. nearly only fifty percent dead so it's still good to work on the other options will be one hundred percent there. the one option is to wait and the other option is to do that cave diving. board closed or hidden people what about if the boys and their coach have to wait inside the cave we've heard some estimates could be as long as until september when the monsoon season has passed what risk would be involved in waiting belt law. ok different risk one is that. they get psychological
10:07 pm
problems by staying such a long time in the cave the second one is the. place that they are is not safe all the time it's raining more and more but we don't expect that situation as we had really really heavy rainfall in the past in the last days and the water level rises any more we believe. we have to good situation in thailand there are eighteen decrease in the caves we have not the problem. we have in have a case on the world mr british let me ask you about the option of having the boys dive out of the cave i mean you've certainly seen the video of the boys like we have they've gone almost two weeks without any food they're very weak and we understand some of the boys don't even know how to swim is it feasible to teach
10:08 pm
these boys help to dive into dive through a dangerous cave. it would be a really hot job to teach cave diving is there a big difference to normal diving they are not in a normal situation like you do that training that summer holiday saw something like that they trapped in a cave psychologically it's a bit different the second thing is when you die in a lake or on sea there you have no ceiling or. few so you can't go out. to the area again if you get some problems that's not possible in the cave and this thing is that if you have a flood it cave like we have now the water. is really muddy and.
10:09 pm
see anything so that's really hot to dive for experienced cavers also and i mean it sounds like there really is no easy option for the rescuers and for the boys in their coach kneels point is from the german cave rescue association mr bourne as we appreciate you sharing your insights with us tonight thank you yes you're welcome and now to that crisis in germany's government it's not over yet germany's social democrats have told the country's chancer that they need more time to decide whether they can back her new migration policy a compromise agreement was thrashed out between uncle americal and her hardline interior minister horst as a whole for after weeks of wrangling john's americal has been holding talks with the social democrats this evening trying to convince them to back the deal and to keep her coalition government from collapse. on their way to one more
10:10 pm
meeting this time merkle c.d.u. and civil first serious you were trying to convince just third party in germany's threat could listen to social democrats to accept the hot food agreement a good two hours later. and there were more we've held intensive discussions this evening and we were able to make progress but we're not quite in agreement yet that's why we're going to continue to talk this week and have agreed to meet again on thursday evening that's all we can say at this point they're going to sort in this. last night the two conservative sister parties pedigree join a compromise after weeks of discord over immigration but the social democrats leader had made it clear from the start that the party wouldn't be pressured knackers to c.d.u. and see over serious you agree to establish so-called trance it centers on
10:11 pm
germany's border with austria where asylum seekers would be evaluated those who are already applied for asylum in another country would be sent back but that would require new agreements with those countries the position parties criticize the compromise. hearing a sneeze to. this was not a question of policy must these discussions were all about power and the hot sun as we see it i went very far toward getting her way because it's your own choice because it's me she says i know it's not only a great disappointment for me but it's a rejection of joint european action mr they hope for didn't win you know mrs merkel didn't win but democracy was harnessed. to heated asylum debate test. but if the s.p. d.s. and willing to go along the crisis is likely to continue. the crisis does continue our chief political correspondent of the new crane is standing in front of
10:12 pm
the chancellor here in berlin good evening to you melinda sort of the social democrats say they need more time to talk and think about this migration deal what does that tell us. well she also said they're not quite there yet and i would say the operative word there is quite it sounded to me like a cautiously optimistic statement that we heard there from andrea analysis and and essentially saying more time perhaps because the s.p.d. has its own deal in mind it is of course the case that mr as a whole for the interior minister and head of the bavarian conservative party got the chancellor to go along with some points that are not in the coalition agreement so perhaps the s.p.d. is hoping to try the same tactic and in return for their agreement perhaps they would ask for an immigration law that would facilitate economic migration by skilled workers in any event it is the case that the s.p.d.
10:13 pm
has gradually moved toward the center or even the right when it comes to migration just three years ago the s.p.d. rejected the very kind of transit centers that are at the heart of this deal that was agreed upon yesterday evening back then in two thousand and fifteen they were saying there will be no closed centers closed camps in germany for refugees but we heard there recently said germany needs a realistic migration policy basically what that reflects is a sentiment on the part of all of the mainstream parties in germany that the rise of the far right party means that they need themselves to start getting to start talking about tighter borders and tighter control on migration but it's perhaps no that worthy to see that in doing so to some degree they jettison their own principles and piece by piece they begin to take over parts of the far right
10:14 pm
parties own agenda and for other european countries who are watching this in for germany's allies around the world watching this what do we know tonight in terms of the stability and the sustainability of this government twenty four hours ago we were talking about the chance that the government could possibly collapse how would shoot is that risk tonight. there is certainly a risk that this conflict will continue for mr c. ho for the interior minister it was a very personal conflict he wanted to see the chancellor banned he achieved that age i would say and it could well be that the personal tension between the two of them will continue secondly the credibility of this government has been badly damaged sixty nine percent of germans told pollsters overnight they think mr is a ho for should have resigned so the public trust in the government i would say
10:15 pm
certainly has been shaken and looking beyond germany's borders credibility of the government in europe as a whole again is up for question at a time when europe badly needs strong leadership our chief political correspondent and a crane almost word for us tonight here in berlin melinda thank you here's some of the other stories now that are making headlines around the world that the main defendant in a german neo nazi murder trial has delivered her final statement as the five year trial comes to a close the often change denied involvement in a series of racially motivated killings between two thousand and two thousand and seven the court in munich is said to deliver its verdict next week she faces life in prison if convicted syrian rebel negotiators have reportedly begun a new round of talks with russian officers to end the fighting in southern syria at the weekend more than a dozen towns in the region agreed to a regime takeover in return for an end to syrian and russian bombardments.

well that syrian army offensive has caused tens of thousands of people to flee their homes but neighboring jordan has refused to open its borders to any more refugees he wus tanya cramer reports tonight from the golan heights where the build up of syrians displaced by the fighting is growing. more and more tens and makeshift homes are being set up near this village on the syrian side of the golan heights over eleven thousand syrians are said to have reached the area near the fence to the israeli occupied golan heights the assad regime has launched a massive offensive in the province shown here on unverified social media footage thousands of syrians have been driven out of their homes since mid june the area in syria's south west is one of the few remaining opposition strongholds it's a sensitive area because of its proximity to israel right behind me on the syrian
10:17 pm
side syrians fleeing the violence have put up their tents jordan has closed its border they have nowhere else to go israel has never accepted refugees since the fighting began in syria seven years ago however it has provided humanitarian aid to civilians on friday the israeli army published a video showing soldiers delivering humanitarian aid across the golan heights fence into southern syria as more refugees arrived the military said to deliver three hundred tents medical supplies tons of food and clothes since two thousand and thirteen several thousand syrians have also been treated in israeli hospital it's. going to we'll continue protecting our borders and provide humanitarian aid to the full extent possible we will not allow entry into our territory and we will demonstrative here and through the night in seventy four percent of the syrian army . and. the dire situation across the fence has put the spotlight again on
10:18 pm
israel's policy towards syrian refugees is where remains of fishley at war with its neighbor in the nearby settlement of cuts mean people have mixed feelings any personally i think it's not just israel's problem it's a problem of the world's nations to get help to the syrians so. it's very hard to know. who's terrorist who's not so if we can help them medically and give them assistance in their in their situation then i think that's the safest way israel's military has raised its alert level and reinforced its troops it is expected that more syrians will have to flee they have the bombardments are tough years here now and it looks like we know it's happened we have a full blown trade war on our hands now and it seems like all we can do is just sit there or in my case stand there and watch friend it's

mutual trust and cooperation between china and the us this would be good for both countries people. but the u.s. commerce department maintains that china mobile which has around nine hundred million customers worldwide poses a national security threat it's applied the same term to other chinese telecoms firms including that which is accused of doing business with north korea and iran after already having violated sanctions and while way which the united states accuses of trying to spy on american people the backdrop to all of this at tit for tat terrorist spot between the united states and china that's showing no signs of letting up a far cry from the relationship of the world's top two economies hard when china mobile first applied to operation the united states back in twenty eleven. markets are of course watching very closely trading is wrapped up early on wall street ahead of the fourth of july public holiday and we asked our financial correspondent

what traders have to look forward to when they get back. investors on wall street certainly can take a breather on a fourth of july to get a ready for a big friday when all those tariffs whiz than the united states and china supposed to kick off we already saw it on tuesday that in general we got pretty decent sales figures for the u.s. car industry but still stocks in the car industry headed south the reason that there's still a big question mark if china actually might start to impose tariffs on u.s. car imports starting friday we still don't know if that's really going to happen we also got news on tuesday that u.s. chip my maker micron technology is actually was blocked for selling certain memory chips in china and that stock got under heavy selling pressure and took the entire market was it sold trade still is all the rage here on wall street and probably

also across the globe. was mentioning the car industry there and you think automakers would be feeling a bit under the weather the diesel gate scandal continues to cast its clout plus manufacturers are struggling to overhaul their cars to comply with the new e.u. emissions regulations on top of all that a storm is brewing over america's punitive tariffs on the industry but the german lobby group v.g.a. at least is betting on clear skies ahead. the sunny burn in weather is putting a shine on the capital's cars german carmakers worldwide production is set to climb to sixteen point seven million vehicles this year the industry's top lobbyist down hard matters believes the companies are in good shape despite the diesel scandal but the trade dispute with the u.s. and the threat of tariffs could dampen the optimistic outlook. and very much concerned because. tariffs and trade barriers are nothing that is

really good for global trade we need open markets common standards and low tariffs and that's the. this is the fact of success that we with the automotive industry in germany had so far german car makers would struggle to compensate for losses in the u.s. which is not just an important export partner but a key production base eight hundred thousand german cars are made in the usa containing parts imported from the e.u. firms like dima send us manufactured cars to china they'd be hit twice over if the u.s. put up barriers on trade with china to. try to submit all of facts and to participate in conversations about this and as long as the decision has not been made we will fight for free trade trade bodies and manufacturers are hoping for an amicable settlement with the u.s.
