meanwhile the president is ready to further escalate the situation announcing tariffs on an additional sixteen billion dollars in chinese goods taking effect in two weeks after that trump said the u.s. is ready to talk of a total of five hundred billion dollars in chinese imports. are here to talk about what all this means is to business anchor bent ben thanks for being with us and if you're a consumer sitting at home wondering what is why do i care tell us what's going on ok there are a few strains to look at first of all whether or not your chinese or american ok there's a there's talk of a boycott going on by chinese consumers. china can feed itself you know china doesn't need the u.s. right now we see that in soybeans for example the chinese market is just very quickly and is taking up domestic produces produce from soybean make as in china the last shipments just coming over now hopefully tariff free for the chinese at

least but for consumers everywhere else we may quite see price rises at some stage not right yet though a lot of companies are. trying to absorb any of those tariff costs into their profits so they're taking a profit hit a lot of companies at the moment what does that mean for producers that. well it's something that they can't continue to do long term short term measures that they can face and can deal with a lot of companies are in a very good position at the moment doing quite well attached up a lot of the american and german companies well as well but it's not a long term measure what we're seeing as well as a lot of these multinationals shifting their production abroad harley davidson for example you know has decided to move some of its factories abroad or some of the production abroad it can do that these multinationals can do that they have factories all over the world for the little consumers it's going to be a lot harder and this is also going to hit us fine as the voters who brought mr

trump into office right a lot of his supporters are in the heartland of america the agricultural stronghold what does it mean for the world order of and trade this is where it gets really interesting i basically compare it to trump's banter with kim jong un when they were talking about who's nuclear button was bigger in this case whose economy is big the chinese economy in this case or the u.s. economy is the u.s. economy wins at the moment and is in a good position and that's what mr trump is taking advantage of in these negotiations but for how much longer and is he going to should shoot himself in the foot because at the moment those u.s. farmers could suffer we could see stocks suffer. the chinese stocks though at the moment that's an interesting part for investors to bring it back to consumers again any investors in chinese stocks have seen a one fifth it stops over the past half year that that's how long this whole trade
3:06 pm
dispute has been going going on for and if it gets even worse we're talking about thirty four billion dollars worth of tariffs. another sixteen billion dollars worth in the next couple weeks that adds up to fifty billion and if trump escalates it to five hundred billion dollars worth of tariffs on imports that's basically everything the u.s. imports from china while that's a lot of my sort of huge sums are thrown around here how concerned do u.s. and chinese consumers need to be going forward he said that producers are going to try and ease some of the costs to prevent passing on those price increases they can't do it forever nor you know they can't do it to forever let's just have a listen to one analyst who spoke to d.w. from the international trade center in geneva and have a listen to what she had to say all right there on chickens on us
3:07 pm
looks like we're having some trouble getting that. through now we've got half of it . ok we'll probably just have to let it go at this point it's a freaky friday these things happened on live t.v. we do apologize to our viewers and of course what she was saying is that consumers are going to be the ones who suffer in a trade or you know definitely no winners in a trade war that's what everyone agrees on as i mentioned the u.s. has the upper hand but what will the long term look like when will the chinese economy overtake the u.s. economy some analysts are saying that could happen in the next decade others are saying this very scenario could speed that up so a lot of talk about we're going to have to leave it there ben fizzling from our business us thanks for walking us through this issue of turning out to some other global news from around the world pakistan's anti corruption court has sentenced former prime minister not wash to ten years in prison on corruption charges he was convicted after failing to prove a legal source of income for
