8:03 am
a chance our home we shall have to leave at the end of this month oh in august after that absolutely we are now which is just on site so are many of us surprised that. this is a disk and why this is so significant what role did lucia and her late husband lucia ball play in china's dissident movement. first time. in what. he sighs. and since then really shy has being under house arrest for almost. an hour and so there she is actually is now in some very serious mental illness and suppression because of how successful at that time and this is national it's a saturday and also seeing a rise by calling or at least for
8:04 am
a very long time and it has been a very significant. move for lucia our lead in china so i think. the rather well now looking forward to the response of the chinese guy and why she coming to berlin. he is one of those companies was talking about. to the chinese government which is by the way. and now it's only guy who. has not been supporting the chinese is oh i and i don't actually i mean he comes. to china send her into a chinese know this and show me actually we don't know if they're us and we're going to issue on this issue and this is going to. talk about immigration we're.
8:05 am
and so. i did have used correspondent kong wingie for us in taipei thank you very much for bring us up to date are back to our top story now in thailand the final stage of the operation to extract the last five members of the u. soccer team from a flooded cave is underway officials have promised that the four boys and their coach will reach daylight in the coming hours cave divers have already brought out eight boys in the last two days now rescuers are under pressure to conclude the operation before more heavy rain hits the region. rescuers advance into the cave before the next phase of the operation time and the weather are against them four of the boys and their coaches still trapped underground and more heavy monsoon rains a full cost but euphoria over the eight boys rescued so far has lifted spirits.
8:06 am
doctors say the boys already brought out shows signs of infection and are hungry but doing well families gathered at the hospital where they're being cared for can only wait for news of those still inside. but i am very worried about them i pray for them all the time and hope they all come out safely. but. there are mixed feelings too for classmates and teachers at the boys' school. i feel happy. by the korean falling off the rest of them into care but i try to see this too to you and i think they must do it this boy just wants to be reunited with his friend whose nickname is night. i hope you can get back you within a week or so. i want to take him to a restaurant so we can spend some time together. the second day's rescue operation was two hours faster than the first and bringing out the last five members of the
8:07 am
group is becoming ever more urgent. florian know she is near the cave complex in northern thailand and he joins us he's following all the latest developments for us to see you now the divers we understand have gone back into the cave is there an update on the remaining boys and their coach. yes we have received official notification that during this third phase of the final hopefully finally a rescue operation they will try to get all five of the remaining boys the four boys and their coach out that means that they're adapting their rescue tactics their rescue plan that they had applied for the last two rounds when they only got out four so there was this nobody knew exactly if they were would stick to this plan only take out four but we were given the information by the official that
8:08 am
they were going for five and they were very optimistic during this press conference they said this rescue mission today even though they will take out five might even go more quickly than yesterday's now yesterday's was even more quickly than on the day before so it seems that those divers are really getting more experience and they also told us that the weather conditions inside the cave actually quite ok despite that optimism story we have heard that rain and weather have been big concerns this is a difficult operation how much time do the divers actually have. here that's actually as you can see right now the sun is shining again a few hours ago it was pouring down there was basically zero to rensil rainstorm all through the night so everyone here is specially at this press center they were really worried that after two days of very calm and dry weather today would
8:09 am
actually be a whole different picture. but we were assured by the rescue divers by the officials that the water levels inside the cave haven't really changed they have actually fallen that's for ones that's due to the palms that are still continuously pumping but apparently it also takes. we don't know how long but it takes a while for the rainwater to actually drip all the way through this cave into through the mountain into the cave and he said this to rensil rain hasn't really reached the cave yet so that is good news that is definitely good news story and just briefly if you can what can you tell us about the boys who have already been rescued what's their condition. here for the first time we have received quite detailed information that all the eight boys that aat about how been taken out that are in the hospital enchong right there in fairly good conditions once they got into the hall and into the hospital they received some vitamins some
8:10 am
i.v. drips they were vaccinations some antibiotics two of them are suffering from minor pneumonia but everything all in all they're actually implied ok shape all right florindo shout side of that came complex in northern thailand as the last stage of the operation is underway thank you florian. now on to some of the other stories making headlines around the world a third day of monsoon rains has brought flooding to parts of the indian city of mumbai the heavy rainfall has caused disruption to road and rail lines and meteorologists say it is expected to continue for another four days the government has declared a holiday for schools and colleges. hundreds of supporters of nicaragua us president ortega have attacked a group of roman catholic priests who were helping anti-government protesters trapped inside a church it happened in the sense of bus young basilica south of the capital managua the attack comes a day after at least fourteen people were killed in

a string of high profile resignations over her brags that strategy both her foreign secretary boris johnson and brags that minister david davis resigned in protest jeremy hunt the u.k.'s long serving health minister and a close may ally has been appointed as the new foreign minister hardliners interest conservative party fear she is giving up too much ground as the government go she it's the u.k.'s departure from the european union. for jeremy hunt the latest disarray in the u.k. government means a promotion on steps up from running the health service to one of the very top posts in charge of foreign affairs. prince at a time of importance for a country with. the prime minister so that we should get through an agreement with. his pets and create a sense of chorus johnson will now have to watch banks it unfold from the sidelines
8:14 am
he had first accepted the proposal for a soft breaks it agreed by the cabinet last week the prime minister to resign may's country retreat put on monday he changed his mind saying the brics it dream is dead . first to go hours earlier was david davis the hardliners supposedly in charge of bricks it he and other right wingers say the prime minister is making too many concessions to the european union i'm worried that what the european union will do if you take what we've offered and ask for more from i think if you've got to be a time or get a bit tougher with them and this should be in the time. so far the british prime minister has emerged surprisingly unscathed to reserve may's hurried cabinet reshuffle replaces hardliners with pragmatists but with less than nine months until britain leaves the bloc may still has to get a break plans through parliament let alone convince you skeptics in brussels
8:15 am
well this is all being watched very closely in brussels we see in a somewhat tongue in cheek reaction from the president of the european council donald tusk he tweeted here politicians come and go but the problems they've created for people remain i can only regret that the idea of bragg's that has not left with davis and johnson but. now the first world cup semifinal kicks off this evening we have mark meadows from did sports with us hi mark so this is france and belgium and france are the slight favorites going and yes you'd have to say so given they've won the world cup before in one thousand nine hundred belgium and never won it and of course there's no players left from one thousand nine hundred eight but there is the coach who was the captain that year he's now the coach so he can impart a lot of experience and knowledge and you have to say probably in around twenty degrees my friends have the in-form player of the last two years and will football maybe even more so than when i'll do a messy dare i say it so yeah france slight favorites but who will aris the captain
8:16 am
of france in the goalkeeper is a little bit worried by belgium let's take a little as. i think belgium of the most complete team in all possible aspects of the game at this tournament on the phone they know how to defend their hearts were tac how to counter attack very strong in the air strong in everything. which may have everything they need to be a great team and they are a great team. it's a fantastic generation and to beat them we will have to play a great match. yes so he's sort of playing down expectations a little bit there for france isn't it because google or ease and the rest of the french team know how strong belgium are exactly i saw just how good is this belgian team well if you look at it i mean he said there there are a complete team probably the most complete team in the tournament and they're strikers they're attacking players just phenomenal i mean you've got romelu lukaku
8:17 am
kevin the point and it in-house are probably three of the best five players in the english premier league which is quite a shout belgium i've also got a little secret weapon cherry on ri who played for friends in the one nine hundred ninety eight tournament is now the assistant manager of belgium so his loyalties are big confused there but obviously once the debuts employed by to win so they're going to get a little bit of inside knowledge on france i mean belgium and everybody's dark horses including mine before the tournament but they really have got what it takes to pull this off and what should be a classic semifinal let's have a look now how strong belgium really are. belgium are just one game away from reaching the world cup final for the first time in their history. the red devils have been one of the most exciting teams at the world cup sending their fans into a frenzy was after knocking out the favorites
8:18 am
brazil supporters believe their neighbors and arch rivals france will be the next team they send home i was after this match i believe anything is possible so they're going away and i feel if we're going to play against everybody every team out there to show no problem we will be them all from a small country as we know. live in a million people living there and we are proud of what we can achieve and we can do as a group i belgium have scored more goals than any other team in russia they have one of the best goalkeepers in t. ball courtois and their assistant coach french start hearing on reed knows how to win a world cup. really only euros has won the world cup so for us it's very important . a lot of players look up to him you know because he's a legend in football these belgian players now have the chance to become legends in their own right and bring home the world cup. ok mark two very
8:19 am
well matched teams what's going to make the difference here i think it's the experience of the tournament so far belgium had a really tough test against japan of course in the last sixteen they were two no down four back to win three two and obviously they're a difficult game against brazil while france maybe haven't quite been tested yet they had a reason a tough going to get we know this argentina side isn't as good as it has been in previous years so i'd say that experience probably puts belgium in good stead actually so although france the favorites i'm still tipping belgium. mark meadows thank you very much mark. to some tennis news now in defending men's champion roger federer has yet to drop a set at wimbledon he breezed into the quarter finals defeating france as a rino it is a different story the women's draw however with the top seeds continuing to fall that means germany's angela cabot the eleventh a seed is now the highest ranked female player left in the competition she beat

belinda bench in straight sets the exodus of top seeds plays right into serena williams hands she is through to the last eight after thrashing of genya. williams is a seven time champion at wimbledon she only returned to action in march after giving birth to her first child. now the trade war has car makers starting their engines monica you're more than that was certainly a specific u.s. car maker there sunidhi u.s. auto manufacturer tesla is the first to hike prices in the world's largest car market and that is china analysts say are likely to take the same road in response to higher tariffs chinese motorists will now have to fork out a twenty percent more for teslas model x. what is the cash burning company can't afford to fully absorb the higher cost of the new duties sales in china made up a big chunk of revenues last year tesla plans to build a factory in shanghai to serve the local market and that was allowed to dodge the

tariffs but it's some way off. chinese president xi jinping has promised credit and to other financial backing to arab countries totaling twenty three billion dollars it's a clear a bid to gain influence in the middle east the pledge includes a fifteen million dollars aid package for palestine and further humanitarian support for syria lebanon yemen and jordan she announced the initiative at a conference of arab leaders in beijing. european union representatives have been meeting with foreign ministers of six balkan states in london to discuss their prospects of joining the e.u. countries include bosnia and has a governor serbia kosovo macedonia albania and montenegro by joining the e.u. they hope to generate greater wealth but before the western balkans can hope to
8:22 am
benefit from europe's economic strength they've got to do some homework. all in all the west balkans are quite a long way along the path to membership according to sources in brussels they've made progress on the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary the legislative process is also being brought in line with the european union but e.u. membership also means integration in the common market businesses must be competitive and in many cases that's a long way off the most important yardstick for the economic strength of a country is its gross domestic product you know g.d.p. per capita is only about three thousand eight hundred fifty euros in macedonia it's only a little better by comparison e.u. member states have an average g.d.p. of thirty two thousand seven hundred euro's about eight times higher then there's the widespread corruption coupled with organized crime and money laundering but what are the alternatives for the region russia turkey and china are all trying to
8:23 am
build their influence in the balkans that's putting pressure on the e.u. to accelerate the accession process. and for more on the london western balkans summit currently underway i'm joined by a reggae chair from the german institute for international and security affairs in brussels so good to have you with us on the show first of all i mean the big question of course is are the west balkans economically fit to join the e.u. . well i think that most of the countries which previously join the e.u. are actually not fit to join the e.u. it's a process of catching up and for the countries of the worst some balkan starting point is not that favorable they had a huge wall behind them in the ninety's of the last century so the prime reason for the e.u. to engage with us in balkans is not of economic nature it's
8:24 am
a both conflict transformation and about ensuring peace in the whole of the continent so this is the reason why the e.u. is highly interested to have the countries on board quite soon you just sit right at the beginning of your answer that most of the country certainly in the southern europeans would fit economically to join the e.u. is the u.s. strong enough to make the same mistakes all over again. i don't think that these are mistakes i think that this is a natural way to deal with something a story of problems the countries of southern eastern europe are already not deeply integrated into the use economies at the moment seventy five percent of the trade of the six of these european economies is with the e.u. chiefly with german and in italy ninety percent of the banking capital contra you most foreign direct investments come from the e.u. and remittances from migrant workers and parts of the e.u. are key of the law of the already in place there for instance in the ideation union in the energy union so these countries are actually not outside of the e.u.
8:25 am
there are so followed by the e.u. but not fully. integrated at the moment. there is the population of the southeast europeans is going through this constant three point five percent of the populace so they will not have the e.u. will not have a problem with full integrating this country it's a matter of political will and also whether the leaders of the you see risks the mess that political risks if they tackle enlargement foster i mean obviously there must be some risks because the a and original date of accession which was twenty twenty five is a radio off the table when do you think would be a feasible date for the west balkans or at least some of those countries to join the e.u. . there is a speculations and this doesn't help us very much. the problem is that type of the economic relations that has been established between the e.u. and the southeast european six economists is actually prolonging the time of
8:26 am
waiting to achieve convergence to catch up with the e.u. why is this the countries of the region have a huge trade deficit with a year for about two hundred billion euros in the last ten years to pay for importing so much they have to save they have to have a stereotype policies that have to cut on the investments and because they can. accumulate enough capital for investments the growth rate and that because this should be so what they needed this moment access to e.u. structural influence even before membership this is the only way to ensure a faster growth rates so listening to the start of that summit yesterday it was also mainly about economic cooperation did you see the signals the right signals in place of what you mentioned the kind of cooperation that the west balkans need. i could be forgiven for saying that having a summit on western balkans enlargement in london at this moment is in the eyes of
8:27 am
some. viewers at the insult to injury a country which is leaving the e.u. is advocating enlargement and the government is falling apart in london yesterday so perhaps this was not the happiness of moments to have such a summit indeed. there from the german institute for international and security affairs in brussels thank you so much for your time. thank you. and just a short a reminder of the top stories that we're following for you of the final stage of a rescue operation is underway in thailand to get the last members of the youth soccer team out of a flooded cave divers have already brought out eight boys who are now being treated in hospital. you're watching the news live from them and more coming up at the top of the alice thanks for watching.
