this is. a first. in twelve years also coming up. mission accomplished. cave in northern. rescue.

of the football team. today they joined the others in a local hospital where they're all said to be in good shape. and nobel peace prize laureate has been freed has arrived here in. the german government has been pushing for new release since her husband died in custody one year ago. interior minister accused of insensitivity joking about. being sent back. one of the two teams that will vote for the world cup title later this week has sealed it spot at the finals after defeating belgium over my. he is in st
10:02 pm
petersburg covering that angle for us tonight and here at the big table is jonathan crane from worse sports just john's list start with you talk us through this game quite simply from carried out a defensive must across they notified the threat from belgium early on and five minutes into the second half a goal here it is sound it was c.c. heading in from a corner. around the laney so the ball that was on from griezmann across the board and you can see that he got ahead of fairlane and headed to born in one nil to france and that was really how it stayed because after that belgium just could not simply find a way three front runners to close off or the brilliant defending refound around an m.t.t. as well motivated you to score a goal he helped keep him out so one no it's a strong finish and i think. you only how impressed were you by for instance performance. yeah i think one of my main impressions of france at this
10:03 pm
tournament is that i'm a little disappointed that they haven't really sparkled in attack that much but i think what we've seen again tonight is that they just know how to win a game jonathan mentioned a defensive monster close they're not certainly was the case i thought i was particularly impressed with placements we did as well in the midfield i thought he did an excellent job of notifying and as odd in some of belgians attacking players belgium was a bit disappointing tonight i thought kevin. as i mentioned that didn't really get firing they didn't really manage to break through the french ranks but again france have done exactly what it takes to get through to the next round and they have to be applauded for that and all the i mean you were there watching the game what was the atmosphere like there in the stadium. it was one of the strange atmospheres of experience that. having seen russia play and having seen some of the latin american teams play with this incredibly fervent support it was a little quiet it's a night i think partly because there were a lot of brazil funs in the stadium who clearly expected that team to beat belgium
10:04 pm
in the last round and obviously that didn't quite happen but they still came to the stadium without a team to support belgium fans perhaps a little bit quiet the french fans i do have to give some credit to the one of the goals they really made a lot of noise and supported that seen throughout the guy. of course that begs the question do france like they are going to win the whole thing will i think whoever they play in the final and that will be either england or croatia and the final on sunday they will start the match as favorites because france of progressively got better as the tournament has gone on the group stage they didn't impress too much they got through that and they had that incredible four three victory of course tina and then the year ago on the last round i think with every performance they have played better and better only hit the nail on the head a bit that attacking wise apart from killian them back to you or ways that was a threat they haven't been too exciting but they've done what they needed to do and today the formation they just they got it spot on against. belgium they came so
10:05 pm
close to reaching their first ever. disappointed is it especially to be knocked out by your rivals you know we made a lot of the rivalry between this game examples and i need to they said the border they share the language a lot of these players know each other especially from the english premier league i think eleven in belgium scored for premier league teams five in france is that there will be a huge amount of to support and there is a lot of expectation on this belgium side they talked about the golden generation the likes of debris now as they still have some years ahead of them so this is not the end of the golden generation but i think given what we saw from the previous rounds a fantastic performance to beat brazil in the quarter finals they will be in credit . be disappointed this is probably one of the best chances in a long time to get your final and possibly win it how did you learn from where you were i mean how passionate were the belgian fans there in russia. you know the european fans generally have not been as loud as some of the other
10:06 pm
fans especially the south american fans of this tournament but the belgians generally when i've been out in the center of moscow and here today and some petersburg have been have been some of the old boisterous. without causing any trouble as well which is always nice to germany yeah the belgian fans have been a really good influence on this tournament i think it's sad that will be will be saying goodbye to them now but the french fans as i said were great in the stadium tonight and will see them one more time in moscow exactly right and all eyes of course will be on that semifinal game to morrow night as well all the mood in st petersburg here at the big table jonathan crane from our sports just both of you thank you. all right to the end of a story now that seemed almost impossible to weeks ago tonight against all the odds all twelve boys and their soccer coach have been freed from a flooded cave in thailand ambulances took the last of the boys and their coach to a local hospital where they are said to be in good condition the boys aged eleven
10:07 pm
to sixteen spent more than two weeks deep inside the cave after water sealed off their exit route one rescue diver died last week today an underground nightmare finally came to win it. it was the outcome the world had been hoping and praying for there was jubilation as news reached the volunteers helping with the rescue operation all twelve of the boys and their coach safely out of the cave and recovering in hospital but today is a great day older boys the. triumph two for the regional governor who led the has a to smelt a national mission to get the boys out it wouldn't no one thought we could do it but we did it it was a first for the world thanks to the thai people government agencies and the private sector. specialist foreign divers and members of the time navy's elite seal unit succeeded against all the odds in bringing out the group
10:08 pm
a difficult and dangerous process with two divers leading each one of the boys in their coach through more than full kilometers of dark narrow and partially flooded underground tunnels one diver told later of his fear is this the first boy he was brought to would say when i sold the dive on the horizon were constant outfought are probably about fifty beaches i still don't know if it were. if it was a casualty open source acuity. so i was i thought i was very scared it didn't record but i saw that he was alive and breathing and seemed to be all right. it felt very good a fleet of ambulances transported the rescued boys from the cave entrance to a hospital in the nearby city of chiang rai. for the families it had been an agonizing wait eighteen days hoping against hope that their loved ones would be
10:09 pm
brought out to life. i want to thank everyone who took part in the government and all the officials the police the soldiers and the seals both from thailand and abroad and with. joy and relief on all sides that for the football team known as the wild pool was their harrowing underground ordeal is finally over. and he. was standing by for us at that hospital where the boys have been whisked off to good evening to you know we know that the parents of all of the boys had agreed to you know reunion until everyone had been rescued that has happened now have the parents now had a chance to see their children. yeah hi there and well we are learning that the parents still were not able to embrace their kids but yes that they were able to see them through a window also a little bit earlier we saw an ambulance car here coming at you at the hospital and
10:10 pm
parents were able to get a glimpse of their kids they still have to wait a couple of days until they really get real you know reunited with their kids doctors are saying at the moment that they are still a little bit of warre that the kids that maybe suffered often infection and that's why they're doing this at the moment let me tell you in general that's what we also heard a little bit earlier here during the press conference had really of the kids are you know despite what happened in pretty good condition some of them that's what we're learning has been suffering a little bit with low body temperature but in general they're in good spirits they have been asking already for their favorite dishes and it seems that in general they are really in a good mood i mean that is good to hear it is good news but we can't talk about a total happy ending here we have to remember that. navy seal was his wife in this operation. and this was
10:11 pm
a very international operation wasn't it i mean he was involved. yeah exactly well i mean many people here also talk about this navy diver that you know didn't make it that was that the diet during this rescue mission a little bit earlier we also saw some people here they had his picture in his hand and yes this was really an international task force basically that was going on here already from the beginning of the thai government force saying we can do this on our own we need international have so they were asking for help for volunteers for professional divers so this was really a mission from the navy seals here in thailand with divers for example from denmark from the united kingdom and because of that as what many are saying we have had this really successful operation happening today and also yesterday and then we've
10:12 pm
heard tonight the thief has invited the boar used to come to the world cup final in moscow i mean after all these boys are part of a football team but will they be able to make it go i mean is it realistic. no i don't think this is realistic because also what we heard from the doctors is that they want the boys to stay about five to seven days here in hospital i mean we have to remember i mean they were four days in this cave without food with also very limited access to water so they really want to make sure that the boys are in good conditions before leaving at the hospital we don't know maybe they maybe some of them were not that tired maybe the ones that were rescued already yesterday so we have not gotten any information maybe they were watching the soccer game here on televisions and the hospital they are all here in the eighth floor in this hospital behind me all right our very own outside that hospital in northern thailand where
10:13 pm
those boys and that soccer coach are being treated tonight dana thank you very much . here are some of the other stories now that are making headlines around the world the british man poisoned with the know he choked nerve agent ten days ago has regained consciousness and charlie rose was poisoned along with his partner dawn sturges and she died on sunday the couple collapsed near solsbury the city where former russian spy sergei scribble and his daughter board supposed to the nerve agent back in march in germany the trial was about to end of neo nazi suspects in a murder spree that left ten people dead over five years the trial in a munich court has been going on for just as long making it the second longest trial in post-war german history evidence in court suggested that the alleged murderers got away with the crimes for so long because of police incompetence. the widow of the chinese nobel peace prize laureate luzhkov bio has left china to
10:14 pm
start a new life here in europe she arrived right here in berlin a few hours ago lou she has been kept under total house arrest without formal charges since two thousand and ten when her husband was awarded the prize his calls for democracy angered beijing. the aircraft carrying news the landed in berlin on tuesday evening that ends eight years of what critics of the chinese government say was virtual imprisonment for the widow of one of china's most internationally well known dissidents. lewsey i was confined to a home a few days after her husband lu szabo became the first chinese we sippin of the nobel peace prize in two thousand and ten louche elbow called for political reforms and the end of one party rule in china views that earned him an eleven year prison sentence. he died of liver cancer in july twenty seventeen.
10:15 pm
but i never expected him to win the nobel peace prize and i can't leave the house it's absolutely absurd that even kafka couldn't have written this with any more certainty for. that. lewsey is reportedly also ill and suffering from depression her release comes amidst government consultations between china and germany china says louisiana's release is not a political tactic and shipping even though she's going to germany for medical treatment in accordance with her own wishes. there is no connection with the governmental talks going on right now in berlin means. many observers think it's hardly accidental that louisiana was allowed to leave china just as german chancellor angela merkel welcome chinese premier he can chunk to
10:16 pm
berlin with the u.s. threatening a trade war with both china and the e.u. the two leaders could be seeking to forge closer ties both in trade and diplomacy. well earlier the dissident chinese artist ai wei wei spoke to d.w. exclusively from bangladesh here's what he said about sean's release and germany's role in the release on the she has being tardy putting all surprised of for so many years which is such a dreadful situation and the. whole international community has argue about this notion i should be afraid on the specialty one germany. you know tesler so much attention about it is just based on a made such effort in a german has being come for a long time to tool to negotiate with his chinese government about chinese
10:17 pm
political prisoners on the loucheux three days is a positive. it something you know part of. possibly bizarre for this kind of international effort there was the artist ai weiwei speaking to d.w. exclusively a short while ago from bangladesh you're watching b.w. news still to come germany's interior minister has been accused of insensitivity after he appeared to joke about filled asylum seekers being sent back to afghanistan on his birthday. art over to funny how are the effects of that ongoing terror battle neverending so far brian it's only a week since the latest tape for tat terrorist from china and the united states but multinationals are already scrambling to readjust supply chain so that good spell for the u.s.
10:18 pm
do not pass through china and the first american carmakers are raising their prices on the chinese market to make up for the high agencies here's more. test is the first american company in one thing but it's raising prices in china. the move comes in response to beijing's decision to impose tariffs on a range of u.s. products. china is the world's biggest car market tesla come out of four to be priced days plans are already underway to build a factory in shanghai which would enable the company to avoid tyrants in the future . germany's b.m.w. is also planning to introduce price hikes in china that's because customers there buy s.u.v.s produced at b.m.w. plants in the united states. the company money factors that make series at its plant in north carolina each year a bank a hundred times and s.u.v.s produced their go to china b.m.w.
10:19 pm
is also ramping up production in china in response to its new tariffs on u.s. imports all right let's turn to financial correspondent. yeah so as he just says building a factory in china but at the same time it's a balancing high oil prices in china so does that mean they are likely to go around the u.s. to produce even cheaper in china and china made it official on tuesday that they will start proving manufacturing their cars in china probably in about two years and i'm quite sure that those plans have been in the making a way before this trade war if i may call it. already started to china is the second biggest market for tesla behind the u.s. so in that respect it makes sense to make sure you produce cars within china and the stock of tesla traded to the upside by
10:20 pm
a good percent and what makes the steel especially important is for the very first time foreign car maker is allowed to manufacture cars in china without the chinese partner. and yes why is it then the markets seem to be so far least unaffected by the ongoing terrorist battle. well investors on wall street seem to be tired was all those trade talks and actually not that much is happening at this point at least not that much news so investors on wall street are rather focusing on the upcoming earnings season that will really kick off on friday when the first big u.s. the banks will come out with their earnings reports and overall wall street is a very beat that this earning season will be brilliant or partly because of the tax cuts of the u.s. president donald trump partly because commodity and oil prices have been increasing and so especially in the commodity in the energy sector investors are pretty sure
10:21 pm
that profits more than doubled in comparison to last year's or quarter overall wall street expects that the profits will increase on average by a good twenty percent it was that it would be the second best earnings growth that we've seen in the past eight years and therefore stocks are up by the way for a seventh day in the age trading days of very optimistic wall street in new york thank you so much for your update. and on to a different story one rhino is killed every seven hours in africa and an elephant every thirty minutes what's to blame well the great for ivory trade imminently in asia for example china pulled the emergency brakes last year and put a strict ban on illegal ivory trade here appeal regulations fulfill polls disastrous consequences as an exit poll shows. these two elephant cubs may soon end up like this more elephants
10:22 pm
a killed by pitches every year than not despite various trade embargoes i fear is in high demand why eight. various countries in europe have become hopes of the international i free trade in germany alone thirty's confiscated one point two turns of illegal ivory in twenty sixteen the trade embargoes in europe and. the resale of any free that was purchased before one thousand nine hundred eighty nine is legal if the ivory comes from under moves that died of natural causes it can also be sold legally. but these loopholes are exploited by trade as to smuggle illegal ivory and by the illegal trade a study by the international fund for animal welfare the i f a w has shown that various ivory products are traded online without city fixation animal rights activists have now come to petition to the german environment ministry with more than one hundred seventy thousand signatures to demand a trade embargo with no exceptions the same demands of rule say coming from africa
10:23 pm
thirty two countries that appeal to the e.u. to finally shut down the ivory market. that's your business update for now we had about to branch off and news from germany is exactly right funny here in germany the controversial interior minister has been accused of being insensitive in his ongoing battle with cancer are going over migration policy horst as a whole for was launching his long promised migration plan when he made an observation linking his sixty ninth birthday to failed asylum seekers being deported to afghanistan well that you listen i was given that amount of money on the same day as my sixty ninth birthday that was sixty nine people it wasn't ordered by me sent back to afghanistan that is far more than what has been usual up to now. or who is going to brady is here with me so what what
10:24 pm
what was that was that just a case of insert in the foot in mouth now and think later i think it was definitely much more than that more than a tasteless joke i mean if anything it really sheds light on quite this rather blahs a passage chaired which hospital for the german interior minister is read a stocking to take towards germany's migration policy debate goes completely against this call that we're haring by from the e.u. from brussels and from chancellor angela merkel recently to have more humanity and remember that migration policy is about humans it's about people and this goes completely against this call and of course that particularly deportations of afghans from germany is still quite a controversial issue because afghanistan is still not technically a safe country you've got the taliban of the islamist still fighting against a government that so especially i think after the theatrical authority that we saw
10:25 pm
from paul stay home from the last two to three weeks of a japanese migration policy this really takes his attitude towards that to a whole new level does this master plan gracious that he unveiled. it has in it ideas that have already been rejected by other members of this coalition government so what is he doing is he just trying to flesh out you know the concerns of other parties and push his own agenda through he can't do that exactly i think the whole press conference today was really quite provocative and what he presented at the end of the day was an out of date platform and it doesn't even include as you mentioned any of those eleventh hour changes which were actually agreed upon by the coalition and all the way through of this past couple of weeks it really seems that he's trying to undermine not only the the coalition which of course is
10:26 pm
a. made up of his conservatives merkel's conservatives and the social democrats but also trying to undermine undermine merkel of course he said today as well that this plan was admitted agreed upon by his interior ministry and not by the coalition government of course so this completely sidesteps merkel and undermines her authority and even her credibility almost as if the events of last week didn't even happen you get the impression there are political correspondent he birdies always keep it very much. his reminder of the top stories that we're following for you france are through to the world cup finals thanks to a one nil victory over belgium. he's a second half header simply lived lives to their first final in twelve years it will be against either england or croatia. or they've been celebrating in thailand i'm there after the last four boys and their soccer coach were safely out of the
