this is news live from berlin a closely watched some of between donald trump and sodomy putin is underway in helsinki the u.s. president says i really think the world wants to see us get along good and said it was time to talk about difficult multinational issues trump had earlier tweeted relations with russia have never been worse thanks to years of u.s. foolishness we have complete coverage. also coming up of france rules the football world again blue list of the world cup trophy last night the french defeated the resilient croatian side in the final in moscow setting off wild celebrations back

home in paris although police had to get involved when things got out of control. on the pitch look blue crush croatian hopes for the convincing for the way it should never be about that their strong character just wasn't enough on the night. i'm sumi so much going to have you with us us president donald trump has begun his first ever summit with russia's vladimir putin as the meeting kicked off in helsinki trump said he was hopeful of forging better ties with putin several dorney issues have dominated the runup to the talks among them conflicts in ukraine and syria and charges of russian meddling in the us presidential elections. now as the two leaders sat together ahead of their talks donald trump outlined what was on the agenda for their historic summit let's listen in. welcome aboard we have
2:02 pm
a lot of good things to go with these because. it's going to. be great to get a look at your it when we. will be talking a little bit about. the. let's get the view now from moscow and from washington we have emily sure went in the russian capital and alexander phenomena in the u.s. good to see you both now we've heard a long list of issues that the leaders may or may not talk about so let's let's take a look at what they want from the start from these talks and alexander i want to start with you in washington what is in this for donald trump well we just heard what the president. was on his agenda he was talking in the opening for marks about trade military nuclear nuclear missiles and china. he didn't mention ukraine he also didn't mention russia's meddling in the last
2:03 pm
presidential election in twenty sixteen and he was immediately criticized for not mentioning these issues some experts however say that it was he's way off you know not trying or trying not to destroy the spread into the atmosphere at the beginning of he's meeting with vladimir putin however we have to say that the disk really quite unusual that there is no predominant set for this meeting and the u.s. president himself said that he just wants you know to establish a good personal working relationship with the russian president and usual indeed aleksandr you know emily from your perspective what about for a lot of your putin what is at stake for him. well there's not as much at stake for the mere putin in the sense that trump is under so much pressure at home whereas for the mere putin even the fact that this meeting is taking place is is a positive thing and we could kind of see that in the opening statements that the
2:04 pm
two leaders made as well putin was very vague he talked about the fact that us russian relations are difficult at the moment they have a whole host of multi-national issues to talk of to talk about today it seems that the russian side is adopting a kind of wait and see policy and they're going to see what they can get out of today's meeting the stakes are low they're just kind of. this meeting is really establishing them as an international player as an important international player and i think kind of played into putin's hands today as well by mentioning both the u.s. and russia as the main nuclear powers in the world that's surely music to russia's ears and of course russia is just looking to restart dialogue with the u.s. as they said ahead of the summit and perhaps hoping that this meeting will lead to further meetings down the line and yet the cloud hanging over these talks that emily is the fact that there are accusations that russia meddled in the u.s.
2:05 pm
elections and alexander i want to come to you now because just on friday the u.s. indicted twelve russians on charges of hacking those elections how much pressure is trump under to really confront this issue. well he's. a lot of pressure on the russian expert russian experts but also lawmakers. in the democratic party but also among the republicans expect the president to be tough on russia on this issue expect. to confront the russian president and russia meddling in the u.s. election particularly as you mentioned to twelve russian military intelligence officers were indicted last week something. that the president was made aware of. these this and the whole were over we have to say so far presidents trump has been quite relaxed confronting. on this topic he says of course everyone
2:06 pm
expects him to talk about what's. in he's meeting with putin so he will do. whatever he would put to. these officers these agents he said oh i didn't even think about it or maybe i do so it seems it's still a very difficult issue for donald trump to talk about with. putin if he does though take a tougher line and really how do you think vladimir putin would smooth over that controversy i think this isn't really a worry for putin the russian side to say and again and again that they did not meddle in u.s. elections and i think we're likely to see putin simply repeat that line today they will say again that they didn't meddle that they have no intention of interfering and perhaps putin may even propose
2:07 pm
a set of common rules for cyberspace and if he does get that kind of agreement from donald trump that would certainly benefit russia as well now ahead of this meeting presidential aide. said that these accusations that we saw from the u.s. at the end of last week with these twelve russians indicted that that was just an attempt to disrupt the summit but i think from the russian point of view that's likely unlikely to really disrupt what's happening today all right our correspondents on the ground i was sure when in moscow now it's phenomenon in washington thank you both very much for your analysis. and for more we have nicole denver with us she's a foreign policy expert at the german council on foreign relations i nickel thanks for joining us we're talking a lot here about you the u.s. and russia but of course there is so much at stake for the european union as well for germany as well and we saw donald trump going into this summit calling the
2:08 pm
european union of soul in terms of trade at least how worried is europe. europe is pretty you're pretty varied at this point i think the negotiations at the nafta summit already showed that at the end even though there was an agreement the atmosphere is quite different from all the summits before in the meetings in heads thinking now will be also something where the europeans have to be quite attention as you know when it comes to the results of the summit what worries them most you think what front of all these issues that are on the table where do you think european union leaders are most worried when the security issues are you know high on the agenda and. there is a high expectations on the side of the europeans that something positive might come out of this. they are especially interested if you know the tough. tough stance the americans had for a long time on russia with respect to the ukraine with respect to the protection of
2:09 pm
natural territory close to the border and also with respect to the situation in syria is something trump might continue to communicate to to put in that this is acceptable behavior and that they might find a solution that the europeans that he might not you know. have this position in their meeting and my change the points that i point to the europeans especially coming after a very tumultuous as we said nato summit just last week you know we also have to say that trump after the annexation of crimea a lot of the western leaders try to isolate russia within the e.u. as well or with. with sanctions what would happen to that united front if the u.s. no longer stands behind it well that's that's one of the points where i think europeans again abare it because this political. decision to really hold up the unity is that is
2:10 pm
a very strong instrument in diplomacy with respect to the russian behavior and if it makes concessions this is something all the border states have to be about especially poland as one of the security part in this off the u.s. but also the baltic states who really rely on the end of assurances of nato and the allies that their territory with be protected we don't know if in the conversation tough trump will be less tough on putin on this particular issues that this you know the strong instrument would be taken out of the hands of her trump say it might be easier to talk to putin than his own allies in europe what you make of well you also said that the meeting with putin would be easier than the meetings with the european allies and i think this still comes as a little bit of a shock and you know the reaction in europe and direction on the side of the german
2:11 pm
government already showed that you know by reaching out to those. friends in the united states that you know still belief in you know in the relationship with the allies is a key a signal that there is a high level of nervousness on the side of here please don't want to watch certainly nicole brown verger a foreign policy expert for expert from the german council on foreign relations thank you so much for joining us in our studio. moving on to some other news now and the championship match of the soccer world cup which france won last night after a hard fought win over croatia millions of french soccer fans are on the top of the world after celebrating their team's victory through the night. the secy of love now the city of joy paris erupts to france's win and most.

of the thousands of the super and fans packed the french capital. dancing in the streets and shouting from the rooftops. that this is great everyone's here together and it's a good atmosphere and makes everyone feel better and we're happy to be here and pride to be french knows us and move on to sleep we've been feeling french for three days now and we'd like it to remain showed up close and we are proud of france and the guys from the suburbs have done it for france the goal a cunt a tony showed. only we're proud thank you. one fan in particular couldn't contain his excitement french president and man were not called watching the match in moscow keven gossip passed on the head from his croatian counterparts president clinton cut back a touch of edge thrilled with the team second place. fans in croatia's capital

zagreb schatz the sentiment that disappointment quickly giving way to pride. please i will keep i think they showed a fighting spirit they showed us a beautiful game you know we're happy despite that if it's still a victory for us to come in with a couple. of problems that i'm probably. in zach braff celebrations of how close croatia came to fill those greatest price. in paris it's euphoria victory try am. and we have tom going to and from to get you sports with us in our studio hi tom before we talk about that the euphoria and triumph we do have to talk a little bit about the. celebrations there was a negative aspect to it in paris tell us about that yes it was there was a little bit of trouble on the streets of paris last night now as you can imagine the celebrations went on throughout the night out on the streets of the capital.
2:14 pm
but i believe at some point a section of the revelers we've perhaps what you want call in international overexuberance decided to announce their presence in the way that we have seen in the pictures here some tear gas canisters were fired some project were thrown maybe a window or too much in smashed. i think it's fair enough to say that by brazilian standards that doesn't really equal that much saturday was the anniversary of the storming of the bastille you know it's not that often that you win the football world cup and that's actually the story that i think we ought to really be told that we should let that detract from the friendly celebrations that took place let's turn to the game because this was actually a really interesting world cup match yeah of course i mean one thing was the final now sometimes what's happened you know kind of recently in the finals is that we sometimes get a bit of a cagey game with the teams taking a little bit of why it's a kind of sauce each other out yesterday's game was going to action right from the start ended up being the high scoring final since one thousand nine hundred fifty

six. and did the idea sean has made himself warm only freeman in history to win the world cup now as a player and as a coach fantastic achievement i could describe the game to you but i think what we really both would rather do is take a look at the pictures ourselves setlist. in early and one greece month free kick made its way past the croatian keeper but it was a croatian head that nodded it in mario months to catch with an unlucky own goal to give france the lead. but the croatian comeback kings hit back in the twenty eighth minute to even pettish each. he went from hero to zero though as a video review showed him handling the ball. a soft penalty but nonetheless tucked away by greaseman for his fourth of the tournaments. in the second half france extended their lead through paul pogba. a long range effort tucked into the corner . julien and bok they repeated the trick again beating daniel subash each from far
2:16 pm
out for one france then took their foot off the gas pedal. mention to chase down a back pass for hugo lloris and connected an embarrassing mistake but the french captain didn't front for a long four to the final score they blew win the world cup for a second time with smiles all around. our time we're smiling here in the studio as well what a great match but there was talk actually ahead of the match that croatia would be really tired because they had a two extra time not just in the lead up to this world cup final when they played the final was france fortunate to get this victory would you say i mean a big fortune is that is part of the recipe that creates every single sporting success that's ever happened so yes slightly i think we would see how it would be a little bit wary of overstating the lot fons that you don't win a world cup without deserving to win it france is momentum picked up throughout the

tournament. and this squad full of incredible talented players we're seeing some of the faces of them in this wonderful image behind us now the ideas from have been criticized a couple of stages in the tournament for perhaps not getting the best out of his attacking players yes griezmann. pay going forward you grew up top and we didn't see that many attacking displays but really he's proved himself now to be the tactical genius he's a man of the tournament and also believe that we can hear from him and see how pleased he was with his success last august. is simply beautiful for the supply is such a young generation some of them are world champions or just nineteen even though others have been around a lot longer feel we didn't quite brilliantly today but we showed lots of mental strength but in any case we scored four goals it's deserved. to be a good. well deserved so two years ago france actually lost the european
2:18 pm
championships do you think that loss actually prepared them for this when certainly i mean quite a lot of the players who were you know who played in that rather sad at least from a french perspective farnell in paris two years ago were on the pitch again last night. you know every experience like that really teaches you a lot of what makes a strong force and so it is. a reserve bank of experience from which to draw when things get tough but let's not also forget and we'll see who's really dull here from last i can even back pay young player of the tournament only nineteen years old self ready with the world cup in his hands you know i mean the future is very bright for for us all right i'm going to be breaking down the world cup final for us congratulations to france thank you very much tom. well the european union has asked the united states china and russia to ease global trade tensions saying there is
2:19 pm
a danger they could spiral out of control european council president on its task was speaking in beijing today at the opening of a summit between china and the european union a summit comes at a time when both the e.u. and china are targeted by u.s. tariffs as part of washington's america first policy its trade tensions continue to flare elsewhere there are signs that the economic relationship between the e.u. and china remain stable the two sides say they're close to reaching a bilateral investment agreement that commitment comes as fears grow over the impact of america's unpredictability today on the thing if europe meets china and the. american president trump and russian president putin will talk and has seen. all over the fact. that the architecture of the world is changing before the railroads. and to the common

responsibility to make it that change for the better. china and the e.u. also signed their first joint declaration since twenty fifteen the document mentions the need to address overcapacity on the global steel markets officials also discuss plans to reform world trade organization rules this on the same day that china filed a w t o challenge to u.s. tariffs on chinese goods. to june china and the e.u. are willing to talk about reforming and improving the w t o's on the basis that it maintains its core principles and continues to operate based on rules that foster free trade. sudha change. while china continues to post strong growth there are fears that a further escalation in its trade with the united states could slow down the economy the latest figures show that chinese g.d.p. grew six point seven percent in the second quarter that's slightly less than in the
2:21 pm
previous three months the e.u. is a key trading partner for china and its relationships our elsewhere beijing is especially keen to maintain core deal trade ties with the block. for us cross over to the frankfurt stock exchange standing by there already already this year china summit how significant is it for the people that are standing around where you are . it's very significant because if there had been bad news from year it would have already come on top of other bad new surrounding trade relations with the united states with donald trump provoking with pretty meditated or spontaneous remarks of the trade relationship and also of course damaging the mood in the head of the market head of any measures the united states might be imposing and the e.u. and china seem to be set for of prolonging and deepening those

relations and to the benefit of both sides and that's been the result in the past decades with both sides creating jobs and grooming corporate growth in the process and it seems as if the chinese ahead of any repercussions that worsening trade relations with the united states are having on a strong growth path the recent number for the g.d.p. growth in the second quarter is six point seven percent stronger than people expected that augurs well for trade for the moment at least. on a very different note and just briefly if you could don't you believe surprised everyone by releasing some results i'll come behind that. yeah the dutch a bunker took a look at its balance sheet and said oh that's so good that we have to release and inform the public because of official rules before we get punished for not seeing how good the situation is and the people in the market agree that torture bank much

more in the second quarter seven hundred million people expect in the first half year it's one and a half billion and the investors are taking the share up it's a different direction and since the beginning of the year but today almost ten percent plus and the share come down now a bit but the market gladly accepted that surprising is sure they can never be too much good news. and thank you. now it's just about eight months left it's still unclear how breaks it will actually play out one of the key issues of course is immigration which britain wants to control and as a result this month you immigration to britain has foreign to a five you know and if you are in the strawberry business without migrant workers from the continent you will be in trouble because brits love their strawberries but they don't like to pick them. david figures is a fruit grower of the fourth generation in a family business but leaving more and more of his fruit is rotting in the fields

the pickers who work for him for years to stop showing up not just do we want labor from europe but we want to be at a trade with europe we buy they still be problems came from belgium the worst came to the us we went to try and pretend that. i know of more than one farmer who has started growing fruit abroad the industry suffers without labor from eastern europe ninety nine percent of the pickers in britain come from there according to the farmers association and they can't find british people who are willing there are thousands of workers down in these critical weeks they don't know if they'll be welcome after price it in the pound has also lost a lot of value over progs that which makes fruit picking elsewhere in europe more attractive. i have little time here so i'm still happy here so when i will not be happy with just going to a place foreign workers leaving the u.k. is not only a problem in agriculture hundreds of thousands of jobs are under threat at companies like rolls royce jaguar airbus and siemens and so our entire industrial

sectors like steel. eighty percent of those exports go to the e.u. market so for us we absolutely need for the very survival of the steel center in the u.k. seamless trade with terrorists. with no end in sight for the u.k. trade deal many sectors have a long road of economic instability ahead of them. now to an uplifting story that really captivated the world sumi that's right monica bout her roic rescue of the twelve boys and their soccer coach as they were trapped for two and a half weeks deep inside a flooded cave in thailand while the boys are doing well and doctors are pleased with their recovery as they prepare to leave the hospital the boys have now been told though one person a former navy diver lost his life during the mission to free them safe and recovered from the hospital beds the children of the wild boars football team send the messages of thanks to the rescuers. and thank you for worrying about me and
