you. this is do you get the news live from berlin in zimbabwe the long grueling zanu p.f. party has declared the winner of the parliamentary elections still no word on the winner of the presidential poll but the opposition movement for democratic change is accusing sound of p.r. of stealing the election. reuniting refugees with their families here in germany as of today some are few jews will be able to apply to bring their loved ones into the country but there's a catch. and as temperatures hit new highs in northern europe we find out what people here in berlin are doing to cool down and talk to those on able to escape
11:01 am
the heat. i'm sumi so much going to good to have you with us two days after a storage election in zimbabwe the country's electoral commission says the ruling zanu p.f. party has won the most seats in parliament partial results shows that new p.f.s. picked up one hundred nine seats in the nation's two hundred ten member assembly that's compared to just forty one for the opposition movement for democratic change or m.d.c. the remaining seats if you have to be announced along with the victor of the country's presidential poll monday's vote was the first since robert mugabe was ousted after thirty seven years in power. and let's bring in melanie she's covering the election for us from zimbabwe from harare their money good to see what zanu p.f. saying about these results. does anybody have has not come out
11:02 am
yet with an official statement but of course you can imagine that they must be very happy to have the hundred and nine seats refuse as you said in parliament they'll be even more results coming out so we can expect them to get even more seats which means for them they'll be the ones doing the policy making and of course this is also an indicator on who is gone away in the presidency right now it looks like emerson monograph will continue running the country we don't have the final results of that yet of course but have to wait a few more days but that will keep you updated on the square and melanie you know what about the opposition the m.d.c. has accused the zanu p.f. of stealing the selection will they accept these results now that the electoral commission has spoken. it looks really likely they will not accept the results they have actually taken the streets yesterday during the day and in the evening together with their supporters claiming victory we think
11:03 am
that to me says still seems or at least he's pretending to be confident that he will be able to win the presidency we can tell that yes it looks like from the votes from the national assembly that amazon got to win the presidency but the m.d.c. might not accept that result as you've seen with with them going on the streets yesterday it will be a difficult process for them though going to the courts and fighting the result and melanie one can we expect results on the presidential election. in the constitution it says they have to let us know by saturday five days after the vote has been caused but the results are trickling in faster than a lot of the journalists were thinking here so we could already know who is the next president maybe later today or tomorrow. to defuse melanie kuroda bob reporting for us from harare melanie thank you very much. now to

a major change in germany's treatment of asylum seekers that the southern state of bavaria has opened controversial rapid processing centers for migrants these so-called anchor centers are part of interior minister of disputed plans to reduce the numbers of migrants arriving in the country the centers are designed to speed up asylum processing the aim is for each case to be decided within eighteen months asylum seekers whose claims are rejected would then be deported from the centers and critics say concentrating so many asylum seekers in one place could hinder integration and lead also to undress. and let's get more on the story with our political correspondent kate brady who joins us in our studio hi kate so how does this actually change germany's migration policy this change in the sense that any migrants coming in to the very end now will be sent straight away to these centers instead of two different local authorities so the main aim of the bavarian or sorties in launching these and consensus is rated just speed up the process but of
11:05 am
course as you mentioned just there is the concern that with some asylum seekers and there's a possibility that some of them could have to stay there for up to eighteen months there's that concern that integration into german society is going to be hindered by these centers we mentioned as well that they were part of a plan from the interior minister a horse a horse for and the germany is actually even suggested that these could be a model for the rest of the e.u. why is that exactly there has been a lot of criticism from germany and across the e.u. towards these sentences again because of the lack of interest integration that the senses are going to allow some critics have been describing them all comparing these centers to jails of course the asylum seekers are able to leave the area but they are very much confined during the day to the senses but there is little interest even in germany this is a pilot. at the moment redone in bavaria and there's only three other of germany's
11:06 am
other fifteen states even shown any interest going to cause it is also worth remembering as well that the numbers of asylum seekers arriving in germany and the e.u. is actually reduced in just in germany by the end of last year there were around one hundred seventy thousand. registered asylum seekers in germany which if you compare that to at the height of what's become known as the of the refugee crisis there is numbers of tiny now it's not the only change to immigration rules that we're seeing here in germany let's take a look at another because starting today some refugees can apply to bring their immediate relatives to the country in two thousand and sixteen the german government suspended a family reunification to slow down the number of migrants arriving here now it has lifted that cap and we met a syrian refugee who hopes that the new ruling or reunite him with his wife and his daughter. needs a lot more last look his wife and daughter in the eyes in august twenty fifteen
11:07 am
a lot war is a lawyer his name is on the syrian government blacklist he had no choice but to flee. if i know my daughter but she doesn't know me she calls me well by first name. his daughter was two months old when he fled a lot more didn't realize it would be years before he would be able to see her again he wasn't able to take much with him when he left this precious photo with his daughter his wedding portrait a photo of his home village from syria he fled to turkey and from there he went by boat to greece then along the balkan route. in september twenty fifteen here in germany he has called his wife every day since they parted and every day she has sent him a picture of their daughter. he wants his wife and daughter to join him in germany
11:08 am
but in march of twenty sixteen the german government stopped allowing refugees to bring their families into the country. it's hell. to describe that your daughter is growing up without you. it's pretty painful. only those who've been through it themselves know how bad it is people's families. allow or has long been waiting for the rules to change again he hopes his wife will be given an appointment at the german embassy in lebanon this month a lot more thinks it might help that he's attended all his german classes and integrated well. i have a great wife and my daughter can come. on but my complaint. moved during the long waiting period i mean a great integrated. one year security.
11:09 am
i believe that my family and i can become well integrated. these are our longs to see his family again but he's worried about how much longer it might take he's waited three years and it's still unclear when they'll be reunited. these new laws on family reunification who is going to actually apply to well this just applies to refugees who have been granted subsidiary protection in germany so that basically means refugees who fall short of being granted full asylum and that's usually refugees who have fled civil war and germany's case that's largely syrian refugees so we're going to see one thousand additional refugees per month now being able to settle here in germany and the people eligible to apply for this a large are going to be refugee spouses. minors and also parents of minors already
11:10 am
living in germany and priority is also going to be given to humanitarian crises for example young children or those who are seriously ill ok so kate looking at the bigger picture we have two changes taking effect today in germany's immigration system why is the country changing that system we've seen in the last few months germany's stands on migration policy getting tighter and tighter and tighter and that's largely a result of september's election last year when not only the conservatives but largely the conservatives they suffered huge losses to the fall right a.f.d. possy has an anti immigrant party and so now the the conservatives and particularly the sister party down in bavaria to. chancellor angela merkel's conservatives desperately trying to win back those votes that they lost now but of course there is even with these measures that we're seeing implemented today there is criticism now that as the numbers of refugees are going down whether really this is just a symbolic gesture from the interior minister. to show or at least appear as though
11:11 am
he's doing something to tackle migration in germany all right our political correspondent kate brady kate thank you very much. moving on now to some other stories making headlines around the world a ban on full face veil says come into force in denmark the government says the veils known as new cobbs prevent women from integrating into danger to society several other european countries have instituted similar bans dames are planning to defy the new law facebook has uncovered what it says is a court made of campaign to influence u.s. mid-term elections in november the company has removed dozens of pages it says aim to mislead users facebook did not identify who created the pages but said some activity was consistent with that of a russian agency accused of meddling in the two thousand and sixteen election. forensic experts say dozens of caskets handed over by north korea likely contain the remains of american soldiers killed in the korean war the handover was agreed
11:12 am
at the june summit between north korea's kim jong un and us president donald trump more than five thousand u.s. troops remain unaccounted for in what is now north korea. and a passenger plane has crashed during takeoff in northern mexico authorities say all one hundred three people on board survived but dozens are injured some of them seriously local authorities say a gust of wind hit the aircraft as it took off during a heavy storm causing it to lose speed and hit the ground. but he waves here in northern europe is expected to continue in the coming weeks as the temperatures soar off the scale what happens if you have to carry on working in the heat. often water went out on the streets of berlin for some advice. well it has been sweltering for weeks and but the moment she reaches record highs everyone here is looking to get the heat. out.
11:13 am
exactly knowing degrees here now in these temperatures all you want to do is find a way to cool down but what if you've got a job that means you've got to skate the heat oh. we asked three people with the hottest jobs in the capital. is it happy i just took the temperature here and it's off the scale how does it get here to stand here but not altogether two hundred eighty degrees and how do you survive as you just by drinking a lot of thinking cool thoughts and you're just getting used to it so it doesn't make. trying some changes how do you cope in these temperatures demand base saying to yourself that it's minus twenty four degrees it's all in the head yeah it's all in the head absolutely definitely like the men who do that so it's cool it's cool it's
11:14 am
called. doesn't that what idea works for me at least really isn't on the north pole doctors are going right now i'm at the north pole i mean the still want to eat the current system as he would say oh well look you can see if you include physics. as a zero as a fun and you're used to high temperatures right but you still suffer in this heat . so absolutely not without the fire department we're normally used to high temperatures for short periods of time when we battle a blaze it's not constantly having thirty seven degrees for several hours also affects us even when we wear these clothes which would normally protect us this can sometimes get on your nerves we sweat and we can only get our fluid levels back by regularly drinking a lot as well as getting some shade if we're in action outside and also regularly taking off our protective gear. and you want to able to find a cool place in the capital these days should count themselves lucky. all
