a solution. welcome to the business china has said it's slapping retaliatory terrorist on sixteen billion dollars worth of you as goods this after the latest round of u.s. tariffs on chinese exports went into effect early this morning in response to what the trump administration calls beijing's unfair trade practices while at the heart of the dispute is china's large scale expansion of its tech sector the so-called made in china twenty twenty five plan is meant to catapult the world's second biggest economy from the world sweat shop to a global technology hop. the world's work bench no more instead chinese internet giant like search engine by do tech investor ten cent an online retailer only barba are now leading global innovators they've risen from startups to multi-billion dollar conglomerates with considerable state backing other countries

exports to china and some analysts say u.s. penalty tariffs on chinese products are less a response to illegal state subsidies by beeching and more a last desperate attempt by the americans to stop china taking the technological lead. on the ongoing tariff dispute is already having an impact on one of those key technologies china is keen to master and become a world leader in and that is the robotics industry annualized growth rates for robot production in china dropped from thirty five point one percent in may to just six point three percent in july that's according to the country's bureau of statistics now officials say that the slow. down is not related to trade but other see an obvious link to the current trade dispute with the u.s. . the world robot conference in beijing is the place to be when it comes to cutting edge robotics these models are intended for export but the trade dispute is taking
1:20 pm
its toll on robot production in china which has declined sharply in recent months many investors are waiting to see how the situation develops. so it's a rush to war story because you're not working at the surface and. they're very simple. maybe that you are. right. some economists are already seen negative effects on the robotics industry. the trade war will have an impact on the production of throw boards it will reduce the production of robot because exporters will worry. export orders growth so they will not easily expand factories and that's why i think. production will actually be very low growth robotics is one of the main

industries that the chinese state is promoting and it's made in china twenty twenty five campaign. all right let's talk about those u.s. terrace and the impact on china catherine young investment directive for at fidelity international in hong kong joins me now catherine officials from both countries are holding talks in washington what hopes are there to resolve the dispute. well it's likely that this round of discussions is going to be very similar to previous discussions so this back and forth in terms of the goetia ocean sell the market really has priced in pro risk when it comes to the trade issue between the chinese and the americans but if it could be different or a contrary view point is that we actually think that perhaps over the next quarter or two you might see a resolution to the chinese coming to the table with the americans perhaps in terms of an energy deal for example now the u.s. of course is still an important trade partner for china do you think that this
1:22 pm
trade dispute could change that it's unlikely given that we are still seeing these two very large economies so whilst we have this overhang of what's going to happen next the chinese still have a lot of capital which in fact they could deploy elsewhere around the world perhaps around asia or areas such as europe and i mean you talk obviously is your job you talk a lot to investors in the region what's it like to invest is actually in china now given those tariffs that are implemented. when we look at the chinese market is it is down significantly versus the us markets you could argue that perhaps the trade related risk has not yet been priced into u.s. equities given where the u.s. market is trading but on the ground when you do speak to chinese management teams they are a little bit cautious about what's going to happen next from a trade perspective and this isn't having a knock on effect in terms of the companies reinvesting into their businesses and
1:23 pm
this could have a knock on effect in terms of productivity growth so that the chinese government is cognisant or aware of this issue which again bring me back to the point why why we do think that they could be a resolution sooner rather than later and just very very briefly catherine from your perspective which side is more interested in resolving the dispute. i think both sides are and when we look at the the sectors of the industries that the americans have so far been really targeting it's very much the industries that are common in the body chain so internet related industries and again that's why it's likely that the resolution could come in terms of more old economy china which again is energy related so win win for the americans because of the deal being struck in china giving in to the americans and to china we do have a lack of energy sometimes from a seasonal perspective so be a win for them too right catherine young the investment director at fidelity international in hong kong thank you so much. to saudi arabia now which says it's

still committed to floating shares in the world's biggest company the country's all minister says it will sell a stake in state owned oil giant saudi aramco quote at a time of its own choosing plans to do so will first announced in twenty sixteen with riyadh predict. a public offering would value it add two trillion dollars of war they have been signs of cold feet doubts over whether rampal would meet its price target and how prepared to the company is to undergo regulatory scrutiny saudi arabia has now reportedly scrapped the i.p.o. and disbanded the financial advisers working on it. i don't know about you but i'm confused is saudi arabia going to float around co or not. you know we're confused here as well the latest news that we're getting this morning is not cancelled this i.p.o. this mecca i view of this would have been the biggest i.p.o. in history that it's only delayed and yes you mentioned that they are not sure if
1:25 pm
they can get the money they want to get from this i p o we are hearing that they would like to make five percent off the company public and they want to make one hundred billion u.s. dollars with this and saudi arabia of course is a country that needs a plan b. floor of the future when those massive oil reserves of the country at one point won't exist anymore all of this pretty much cannot have to do anything with the current oil price that we're seeing at the moment oil has been going up this year just this year by twelve per cent so in general the market conditions for this i.p.o. are actually not looking bad let's see if they will change their mind in the next weeks ago yes we will keep an eye on that one the new coke in frankfurt thank you so much. palestine is one of the world's most common plastics it's probably best known from coffee cups and lightweight packaging but it is

a problem plastic because it's hard to recycle it ends up in landfills and oceans but there is good news a canadian startup may have found a solution while turning a profit at the same time. it starts to go in solution we just heard a little bit expensive polystyrene also ok all what you have to do with this all expense polystyrene dissolved in a solution and then turned into recyclable pellets it's the first time it's ever been done the montreal based company policed event turns environmentally unsound garbage into a valuable product. founder saleh long says they're recycled pellets are much cheaper than buying new polystyrene. since you are reuse the point daryn you don't have to extract all your gas china has stopped buying counted as waste it's an emergency situation for the north american country but for brewer it represents a great opportunity you have to see the waste as
