spokesperson. stressed that the events in cannot had no place in a democratic society. this is victory for the good news for you all it's important for the government as it is for all democratic politicians and for most of the population as well i think to state clearly we do not accept marauding riots like these nor the hounding of people who look different all come from somewhere else no attempts to spread hate on the streets this has no place in our cities we and i can certainly say this for the government utterly condemn that kind of behavior. tension in the east in german city of cam that's has yet to come down with further demonstrations from both right and left wing groups going forward this evening. and interview correspondent charlie charles and tell joins us from cabinets where those protests are getting underway once again so charlotte i mean we can see
6:04 pm
people gathered behind you what have you been observing. that's right sarah had some fun a far right nationalists gathered behind me at the moment that curtis isn't due to kick off for another half an hour this i'm sure you can still see there are dozens of people there behind me up until now i have been relatively calm but in the last few minutes tensions have started to rise at one point it's believed somebody tried to rip down the flag that was put up by the far right nationalists riot police immediately had to go in because there was some scuffles that after that happens chance on the whole being heard and what remains to be pointed out is the counter demonstration people against these far right nationalists that's taking place just a few meters in the other direction police all in between trying to keep the two groups separate but it really is a very volatile situation here in chemist's at the moment and you've been speaking with people actually of there i mean can you confirm that this is really a city on edge. that's what people have been telling us yes we've spoken to
6:05 pm
a short while ago a number of people who are at the counter demonstration in fact we met one woman recently from lebanon she said she lived here for a number of years she said she was actually here yesterday when the violence broke out let's have a quick listen to what she's hoping. chappy i saw a huge groups of people with a racist mindset it was a right wing mob they were rolling around freely in the city center they were chasing migrants here with too little police presence they took over the city you have been struck and you know you have been on here make up a hundred. now she told me she was determined to come back today to show her resistance to what place here yesterday in fact that was a message from a number of people over the counter demonstrators that we spoke to they want to make clear that what happened yesterday is not representative that there are people here who believe very strongly that migrants who welcome refugees welcome this is a welcome city let's talk
6:06 pm
a little bit more about what sparked all of this you know what touched off this far right protest because we understand that now the suspects are in custody you know behind that incident just just walk us through who these suspects are and what the incident was. that's right there there are two suspects in custody at the moment police reveal that one of them is that from an iraqi national another one is syrian that has come through in the last couple of hours previously police had simply said that there were a number of people involved in various nationalities and that really is one of the reasons that the situation is become so heated the idea that there were people at the migrant background involved in this now what exactly sparks the killing that took place over the weekend is not yet clear police have said that they don't know the motive the the attack and they don't know exactly how the attack unfolded what they've said is that they want to try and avoid any speculation any room is because there are a lot of rumors going around on social media so exactly what caused this but so far
6:07 pm
a lot is still very unclear. charlotte telson pill encampments thank you. well we're going to stay with the problem of right wing extremism in eastern germany and take you now to what is known as the neo nazi village that's because the village of jamo has been almost entirely taken over by far right sympathizers in recent years there's one notable exception though the liars every year in august this courageous couple takes a stand against extremism by staging a music festival promoting tolerance utopias maria miller reports. the village of yama has eleven houses with roughly sixty residents it looks a delicate but this is anything but a normal german village. check it out least once a year yama residents to get low my and her husband organize a festival in their backyard. and it's not your average summer gathering actually
6:08 pm
it's a protest twelve years ago when they started it the miles wanted to take a stand against neo nazis in this case that means almost all of their neighbors they say. for years the couple tell us they have been terrorized by them until one day their bond caught fire that was a direct attack back it says. we have become very vigilant in these past years especially after the arson attack on us we have installed security measures to it's a very difficult situation there is a constant sense of danger. the burned down barn was located just a few meters from their home. right behind me is the property of the little maya family here hundreds of people enjoying life music in the form of protest against neo nazis and others with far right views meanwhile when we turn around we can see
6:09 pm
on the opposite side of the village there's another little party going on. a notorious right wing extremists in germany has invited us like minded friends to come all the fall barbecue and inspect the police station just in front of his house to make sure they could intervene in case of any confrontation. it's crystal clear who's chair of this is the flag of the former german or empire is clearly visible from everywhere a moral szell's the residence vision of a german arian family. and a signpost points the way to close birthplace and to leave no doubt eight eight is neo nazi cold for heil hitler. these are only some of the nazi symbols we can find in the village. and he's the unofficial boss yeah spanky got his criminal record includes illegal
6:10 pm
possession of weapons and assault. so over there they're leftists and we're not and we have to listen to nazis who leave me my own god and friends i was told to get out because i'm a nazi or so i said i live here you don't. there you play music. we have a nice day barbecue together we'll probably do this every year now against the left wingers. picked up next door and. doesn't seem to care much they're here to support the message of this bit and tossed. tolerance and democracy. well now let's get a quick check of some other stories that have been making news around the world police in berlin are cracking down on organized crime they're targeting members of an extended lebanese family suspected of drug trafficking police have made several
6:11 pm
arrests and confiscated vehicles and properties the family are suspected of carrying out high profile robberies including the recent best from a museum a gold coin worth four million euros. russian opposition leader alexina volley has been sentenced to thirty days in prison for organizing a rally in late january against the country's presidential election involving spokeswoman said that the sentence was clearly timed to prevent him from attending another protest which he's called for next month. and the ugandan pop star turned the government critic bobby vive has been freed on bail the thirty six year old lawmaker who had been in detention since august fourteenth he and several others face a treason charge for allegedly pelting president lee seventies motorcade with stone . the women's rights organization terre defense estimates that as many as sixty five thousand women and girls living in germany
6:12 pm
have been subjected to female genital mutilation or s.g.m. the figure husband rising for some years mainly because more migrants are coming from countries where f.p.m. is practiced i do reconstruction clinic in berlin d w correspondent kate brady met one affected woman who has joined the growing call for an end to female genital mutilation her name has been changed to protect her identity. and one has to say. i was about eleven and twelve years old several people held me down then they cut me they laid me on the table i can still picture it i had such horrific pain well sewed me together. they tied my legs together for a month because so that would heal. the head had i types of female genital mutilation very anywhere from damage in the clip to sewing up the vaginal opening
6:13 pm
in some countries the brutal practice is considered a rite of passage prerequisite for marriage. in somalia the procedure is done by your so called cutter they have no idea what they're doing they just have a knife and they come. after two and a half years in germany thirty six year old e for a c. cannot vice a flower center which offers reconstructive surgery and consultation for women affected by a. dr cornelius joins advises those effects and but germany service is an expertise enough jam are still limited. when i studied medicine and was uncovered in the subject. but i know this is changing and i hope that trend continues but i still need colleagues who either know very little or absolutely nothing about this and he got into this according to ted a family some sixty five thousand women affected by after living in germany an
6:14 pm
increase of twelve percent on last year. this is due to the increase in migration from countries where female genital mutilation is particularly prevalent in germany this means countries like somalia eritrea and iraq. in a statement to deutsche avella germany's family and women's ministry described female genital mutilation as a human rights violation during this legislative period the ministry also plans on working more closely with germany's youth welfare offices but when it comes to some parents taking that young daughters back to their home country for a so-called vacation circumcision there's very little that all thora to all the german government. volunteers and teachers therefore play a huge role. the only way to really gauge what's going on is to have a vigilant society particularly means people who work in close contact with families who might potentially subject their daughter to. these people should be
6:15 pm
particularly attentive. ted it estimates that fifteen and a half thousand girls living in germany are in danger of a. failed her three year old is among the. miami good my three year old daughter has been circumcised yet but if we sent back to somalia i'm one hundred percent sure that her grandparents will make undergo the procedure. but for the first. eldest three daughters it's already too late. to make that was our fate those of us who had to experience start but i'm a fighter. and i hope that at some point this ritual will stop. while now monica jones is here and we are heading to north america talking about nafta perhaps being split into two or not existing at all anymore being replaced sara it's all very very dubious still but what we know is that the united states
6:16 pm
and mexican trade negotiators have reached a bilateral deal that could lead to an update of the old north american free trade agreement u.s. president donald trump called it a really good deal for farmers and manufacturers in both countries and he suggested calling it the united states mexico trade agreement if a trilateral deal with canada cannot be reached the talks are to begin shortly auto wah says it will continue to work for a trilateral agreement. because there is some uncertainty about all of this let's cross over to power blitzer standing by for us at the front foot stock exchange how first of all what does this deal between the u.s. and mexico consist of. well details haven't been officially released yet but there are a few contentious issues were some information has come through there's been
6:17 pm
reports of people close to the matter one of the contentious issues of course has been automotive production and it appears that one of the agreements is that a higher percentage point of. of car parts will have to be produced in. mexican factories there are more high wage factories that of course would go to u.s. automakers where it doesn't make more doesn't make sense for them to move these productions over to south of the border anymore. another contentious issue that has been trough. and the third one is energy. the issue of energy. outgoing president peña nieto is ready to open the oil and gas industry in mexico where as the incoming president isn't likely to but there's no idea what how that has been resolved are all just very briefly because donald trump says he could
6:18 pm
strike a different deal with canada we're still talking about nafta. that's of course a very very clever negotiating tactic technique he wants to close that deal with mexico by the end of the week and canada knows this so the advantage would be on their side but by claiming or by framing that the way that it could be a bilateral agreement he's changing that now forcing canada and to either be there and agree to the u.s. terms quickly or just not be part of it. but it's there from the front the stock exchange thank you so much. fog sodden submission scandal is far from over and to make sure it doesn't happen again u.s. government appointed lawyer larry thompson is keeping a close eye on the german comic. and his first annual report is called for greater transparency at the company but fox wagons lawyers don't want to share certain information with thompson who wants proof of the carmakers complying with
6:19 pm
agreements made with u.s. authorities we remember that b.w. admitted to the u.s. justice department that it cheated authorities and customers with manipulated to diesel exhaust emissions data. and here we are b.m.w. because construction work on a new b.m.w. plant in eastern hungary is set to begin next year the german car maker hopes to produce one hundred fifty thousand cars a year there b.m.w. of course follows other big automotive powerhouses like air miss a day center allergy who've had plans in hungry for some time now concerns about the area and governments disdain for the european union haven't faced them. just off the autobahn to budapest this four hundred hectare field is to be home to the bavarian automakers new plant and investment worth about a billion euros the german auto parts supplier came to debrecen more than twenty years ago attracted by lower labor costs but is that still the case. you know not
6:20 pm
because of the low wages it's the proven expertise of the people here our products are highly technologically oriented and the big advantage for us is the professional pull that we're able to draw on. the local man papis proud of his newest corporate settler the german bottling machine manufacturer conus the company has invested forty million euros here perhaps political composure a president viktor orban has come under fire for his anti european policies but that doesn't seem to bother investors the point of. the city of debrecen and the region have a lot of potential i don't think investors come here and look at the unemployment i think they come because we have seventy four thousand students in our university and that's what these german companies need a well educated skilled workforce but hungary's opposition parties have criticised
6:21 pm
b.m.w. z investment they say details of the one billion euro investment not transparent enough. we don't know how much it will cost for the taxpayers we don't know how many discounts david that we don't know anything about is the. government and these big companies including the b.m.w. makes these special discounts which are kept in secrecy. what about shift with its recent fifteen million euro investment in a new production facility the industrial bearing company says there are no e.u. funds with such large scale projects. or notice is going it's not tax exempt we go to only state subsidies to cover fifteen percent of the total investment. to make the location of debits and more attractive the hungary in government is building a new technical college and it's intended to produce
6:22 pm
a labor force tailor made for the new industries moving to the city small business news coming up in the next hour sara thank you so much monica we're heading to me on mar now in fact because united nations investigators they have released a damning report on the on large military calling for the prosecution of its commanders for crimes against humanity the investigators say that the military orchestrated a campaign against the country's rohingya muslims with quote genocidal intents now myanmar's brutal crackdown against the real hinge of began a year ago the ensuing campaign of arson rape and murder prompted some seven hundred thousand people to flee to neighboring bangladesh. u.n. investigators have made it clear to me and must high ranking military officials must pay for what they're now calling actions with quote genocidal intend. the mission has concluded that criminal investigation and prosecution is warranted
6:23 pm
focusing on the top tech mentor generals in relation to the three categories of crimes under international law genocide crimes against humanity and war crimes the u.n. used to call the treatment of the rohingya and a textbook example of ethnic cleansing monday's report is however the strongest condemnation so far based on interviews with over eight hundred victims and witnesses the report detailed a list of crimes committed against their will hinge on murder and false disappearance toucher and large scale gang rape the way in which sexual violence has been taking place in myanmar is particularly brutal and take it from a former special rapper toure and violence against women. the scale brutality and systematic nature of rape and violence indicate that they are part of a deliberate strategy to intimidate terrorize all punish the civilian population there used as

a tactic of war. investigators are referring to the brutal crackdown myanmar launched against range of muslims last august fearing for their lives around seven hundred thousand of them fled to neighboring bangladesh now confined to crowded basic cambs many here welcomed the u.s. new findings. i'm very happy about this new house meanwhile the government has killed tens of thousands of our people right down mothers and sisters killed our children and going to our homes so of course we want justice for this. that. they must be punished by tortured us because we're muslims and we read islamic verses they have nothing against any of the other one hundred thirty five ethnic groups and meanwhile we are the only muslim community and i just don't want us here. un investigators say six military leaders and now the priority subjects for prosecution including commander in chief mean online but they say impunity in the

country had placed the military about the law so the impetus for accountability must come from the international community. and earlier i spoke with one of the three members of the u.n. fact finding mission christophe christopher excuse me dominic's a dotty i asked him about missions specific conclusion that the myanmar military had shown genocidal intent and asked him to explain how bad can be proven. genocidal intent is a very specific term but it's part of the legal requirement to constitute the crime of genocide we looked generally at crimes under international law through a magic hat of crimes under international law genocide crimes against humanity and war crimes and we found in many areas. just for a kind stated. it of bourbons of crimes against our arms and in addition him or require rakhine state we examine the situation of genocide and genocide unlike
6:26 pm
other international crimes requires proof of a specific purpose and this is called genocidal intent the actions must be undertaken to destroy a group in whole or in us and we looked at all of the surrounding circumstances we looked at the decisions taken by other international tribunals but have examined genocide in the past particularly in relation to rwanda and former yugoslavia and we saw in rakhine state many of the same color lines of circumstances and statements by military commanders and perpetrators a general situation of oppression of a minority group the use of hate speech. and widespread nature of the violence the evidence that these things have been planned in advance and studied them were committed quite deliberately all these factors have in the past and the international tribunals to make a finding of genocidal intent that was christopher dominick set out to find the
