4:00 pm
this is d.w. news coming to you live from berlin bus loads of federal police arrive in kemet as the eastern german city braces for fresh anti immigrant protests we'll hear what life is like for chemists residents and ask our correspondent there what authorities are doing to calm the situation. also coming up the populist government in rome says the e.u. must change the rules on rescues at sea or it will close its force to all best schools carrying refugee. and he says he was tortured in prison now his fate
4:01 pm
is causing international concern and we take a closer look at all the warning the ugandan pop musician turned lawmaker who's taking on the country's political elite. plus fighting social inequality in nepal members of the cast who have faced discrimination for centuries i mean it's the women in the south asian nation who are pushing for change. and it's all about the film stars of trunks and this year gender equality at the glamorous venice film festival we'll have more from our parts editor later in the show. hello i'm terry martin good to have you with us. right wing groups are expected to take to the streets of the eastern german city of kevin is today. day to stage
4:02 pm
fresh demonstrations some twenty people were injured earlier in the week when around seven thousand protesters many of them far right nationalists clashed with leftwing demonstrators this after a man was stabbed to death here's a look at what life is like for residents of kevin it's a city where violence and hatred of foreigners has dominated headlines for days. a snapshot of daily life encampments two hundred coon runs a cafe in a not center it's a bit of an ivory tower he says here things are fine. but he also knows the city has a problem with right wing radicals. we don't see marauding bands of murderous nazis in the streets every day but things happen and the instrumental wires that and use it as a pretext to whip up a crowd. last sunday eight hundred took to the streets in response to the killing of a man the night before on monday the far right scene mobilized about five thousand
4:03 pm
demonstrators and they were not just locals the rally wasn't about mourning the dead man it was a protest. the state premier of saxony is coming to camp its later today to hold a town hall meeting. in ghana what would you like to tell him about what's been going on here. before that he's totally misunderstood the situation and that he's out of his depth this is given the right wing radicals of platforms and they're rallying their forces it wasn't just people from candidates here on monday but from all over germany i find out painful the student. is there a general sense of frustration among local people are there problems with refugees here this man's answer shows how rejection of neo nazis and concern about the presence of foreigners in can it's not always so far apart what's it like living here. this is not what i expected i like to sit in the park when the weather is good but i see more and more foreigners there and they behave as if the time
4:04 pm
belongs to them. they don't sit on the benches but on the backs of the benches with their feet on the seats drinking beer. that's not acceptable so i'm not a right winger but it bothers me it's just not right the specific dish wish to see gets in. a city theater company is rehearsing for a video with dunces from twenty four countries we ask if they feel they're under threat they say no. but in fact. it's not that simple. for the temperature to cooperate we tell them they should try to avoid any possible problems if they go home late they should go home together are not alone of course they're all trying to cope with the situation. it's not easy in candidates living together takes practice we have some catching up to do. most people we talked to here say they want to have nothing to do with the far right demonstrators
4:05 pm
but there is something that bothers them they feel marginalized the mail office and analysis. not just the city has changed it will take a while for some particularly the elderly i would say to get used to the way things are nowadays it's different now and in the meantime nobody seems to have an answer to that question what with all the heated debate the thirty five year old killed on saturday night is no longer the focus of attention flowers and candles but no crowd of mourners. did obviously interfere in ten minutes and joins us now from there linda we got some impressions in that report on how people in candidates feel about any foreigner sentiment in their midst what are you hearing on the ground there are today. well i would say right now here what we're experiencing is the calm before the snow the storm you can see
4:06 pm
the policeman behind me trying to secure this event of a sex sex a new state premier coming here in the initial a while so this is nothing normal here and i'm talking here from a place where usually there's sometimes football hooligans around here as well i just talked to the man here owning a little gas station and actually on a place ride. only a hundred and fifty meters from here and he told me he has seen a lot of demonstration lots of people gathering here and he's seen police here but never that many so people are looking a little bit in disbelief at their own city that is what we are experiencing here right now so as you mentioned section is state premier mikko crutch for his name is going to be holding a town hall meeting in that football stadium behind you this evening what can he do to address the tensions. all this town hall meeting they actually want to talk
4:07 pm
about the lack of teachers in the city which is a big problem but of course these events have changed everything and now usually people come here that want to off simple questions but now the focus is really on how is has has come that's changed how varied are the people this is the question they are trying to that they are getting that they are expecting we can expect that the meeting in their five hundred fifty people will be very calm because there is so heavy police presence but we don't know what is happening only one hundred fifty one hundred fifty meters from here but the demonstrators from pokémon it's a right wing populist movement here i actually got there and we still don't know that or what about that gathering others a group of far right demonstrators is expected there in kennett's this evening they announced it already what can we expect. they said it will be around five hundred people but remembering the events of this week they also said on
4:08 pm
monday that there will only be five hundred people and it turned out to be much more up to seven thousand people so this is what the police fears this is what the state fears and so far we don't know we have no counter-demonstrations today maybe this is something really. new here because the right wing lions and come that's not sci fi so companies without nazis they actually said that they wouldn't feel secure to be going out to the street so no counter-demonstrations what about those who represent a liberal tolerant civil society in canada is do you get the impression that they're just giving in to the extreme right. they're not giving in there will be a massive events on saturday a mess of counter even to a demonstration that the far right wing. party if he had had started it will start
4:09 pm
on saturday so there will be a lot of counter demonstrations and this is the focus i have of this is my impression that the left wing demonstrators are having at and to be honest the impression we also had there it has never been massive demonstration against the right wing's here in cannes is this is something the civil society is not the strongest here that's what many people say they feel pretty lonely when they go out to the streets and also the demonstrators going against the right wing are often very much the left wing linda thank you so much did always learn a few other candidates. well social media is playing a huge role in the organization of the ongoing protests in chemist's our social media editor federica budget all is here with me for some analysis a federica how is the far right using social networks to mobilize their supporters there and. well terry i would say the most visible way is through facebook there
4:10 pm
are there is a number of far right groups and also in saxony who are very well organized online they have facebook groups pages with thousands of followers in some cases there's also an established hooligan scene and we know that hooligans there they played a key role in stirring up those riots on sunday. also through their social media pages and in some cases these facebook groups are open so it's quite easy to monitor what's being shared there there are calls there are calls for action many observers say here in germany are monitoring a group called pokémon it's for example which played a key role in organizing the protests on sunday and has called for more protests today and they for example have eighteen thousand followers on facebook so that's that's quite a lot and they had thirteen thousand at the beginning of the week so they also saw a spike in their following so there's that and then though clearly part of the
4:11 pm
plotting is also done behind the scenes and that means through. closed and private messaging apps through what's up telegram which and their conversations there cannot be traced so that's also what makes these protests also harder for us to foresee some cases ok so the online networks behind these protests are growing as as you point out what sort of messages are being circulated in these networks well i would say that these. groups there are often very actively looking for chances to whip up their followers. often using rumors fake fake means and we know that this is also what happened in kenya it's that some a far right groups pushed through a lot of rumors and one of them where it was for example that a german woman had been harassed on
4:12 pm
a saturday night leading them to the fight leading to the stabbing this has absolutely been rejected by the police but rumors like this spread very quickly and we saw they reached also people outside of kemet we had people coming from all over germany even from outside germany that joined in those protests and we're seeing also left wing a counter protest being organized just briefly what sort of presence do they have online well there is definitely a this defiance against the actions of the far right is being mirrored on social media most recently we're seeing there's a hashtag that's being widely shared via seemed to me as we are more and that's been used also by several artists here in germany we can see some of them here singers and actually the hashtag has now become also the title of a concert that will be held in chemist's on monday and that will feature a lot of these artists to set a record thank you so much t.w.
4:13 pm
social media editor federico budget. italy's new populist government is stepping up its hardline stance on migration it's calling on the e.u. to change the rules governing the rescue of refugees at sea and twenty fifteen even agreed that all migrants picked up by its naval mission in the mediterranean would be disembarked in italy but rome is now refusing to honor that agreement and says other even nations must also opened their ports the issue was discussed today at an informal meeting of you defense ministers in vienna. italy says it won't accept migrants like these any more if other you member states don't share the burden currently as part of the u.s joint naval mission in the mediterranean known as operation severe rescued migrants are brought to italian harbors despite rim's objections italy wants other e.u. countries to take on their share of migrants if not they could close their waters
4:14 pm
to operation sophia's ships so the e.u. is feeling the pressure the issue of how to share the management of migration flows that is not an issue for one single country but is a common european issue this is why we have a european union operation at sea and this is why i believe that even if it's a very difficult discussion. it would be good if member states considered taking more responsibility the three year old mission is supposed to clamp down on people smuggling and illegal migration across the mediterranean but it has also rescued people off the living coast and to lifted them to italy around fifty thousand so far that's too much for rooms hard right government some e.u. member states say the problem is not with operations of fear the misuse of the operation severe doesn't have a problem it works well and has the important task of combating people smuggling
4:15 pm
and training libyan coast guards the problem is the dublin regulation it needs to be solved irrespective of whether we have the operations of fear which should continue to run. the air defense ministers meeting in vienna joins us now from there barbara the meeting has just wrapped up i understand one of the ministers able to find any common ground. absolutely none terry other than they say that the missions of fear is important for the security and the securing off the external borders of the european union which may be true however. it's in the position of italy actually puts this mission in doubt it runs till the end of the year but as things stand now the naval vessels of the other european countries participating in sofia could not disembark any more in italian ports from next week on if something if an interim solution is not found or if they don't sort of circumvent the problem that means they can't really pick up any more migrants in
4:16 pm
the mediterranean in the mediterranean for the next weeks and months so the situation is really it's runs in circles the states of head and heads of state and government will have to deal with the dublin. regulation any more again they will have to sort of figure out an interim solution we've been there before terry numerous times and things simply aren't moving forwards so what does this mean barbara for the future of the e.u. use migration policy. it means in fact that the external borders of the e.u. become more and more important in prem principle it's they can't be rich neymar people can't get into the e.u. anymore and that is something that is really in the in the sense of that is really something that the hardliners the right wing extremists and populists all these parties in europe that we see now in different governments really want i mean
4:17 pm
that's in their sense that's what they really want to achieve and it means that spain for instance now will have to deal with migrants coming from iraq for america more and more and that the route to cross from libya will be more or less be finished it's a the of course says that's a good result but for the european union it means that is really just failing in the face of this migrant crisis that has diminished but of course there are still a lot of people trying to reach european shores and they will not be able to do so anymore and the deep divisions in the e.u. are getting ever deeper the divisions between more liberal countries and more right wing populous countries that is something that is quite clear here barbara thank you barbara basell there in vienna now let's take a look at some of the other stories making headlines around the world today german
4:18 pm
chancellor angela merkel has begun a three day tour of west african countries with a visit to senegal michel met with some bullies president makis sall in the couple dhaka the german chancellor is calling for further investment in the region which is the origin of many migrants who journey to europe. the government of nicaraguan president daniel ortega is behind a comprehensive campaign of repression to put down four months of protests in his country that's according to a report by the un's high commissioner for human rights report describes illegal arrests torture and closed trials ortega's government has dismissed a report is baseless a large fire has engulfed a warehouse in melbourne australia the blaze broke out around five am local time authorities have warned residents to seek shelter over concerns of toxic smoke several nearby schools have been forced to close the fire authorities say more than four hundred firefighters are at the scene and the un's syria envoy stuck on to
4:19 pm
mistura has offered to travel to live in syria to make service civilians can leave through humanitarian corridors before an expected battle for control the city is bracing for greater violence than it has ever experienced and to mystra called on russia iran and turkey to delay any campaign. you're watching t.v. news still to come he says he was tortured in prison and then his fate is causing international concern we're taking a closer look at body one the ugandan population turbo maker who is taking on the country's political elite. well it's tough days for emerging market currencies mollica yeah and it got worse again today terry those emerging currencies they sold off sharply again today after argentina's peso suffered its biggest one day decline in three years overnight and the drop was triggered by
4:20 pm
a t.v. appearance off president. because when he was on television asking for an early release of i.m.f. funds the peso had its worst day this year and uncertainty over inflation and economic downturn as well as budget deficits have sent the pace of tumbling forty percent since january everything is getting pricea food an actress city buses schools this year inflation in argentina is expected to reach around thirty percent and at the same time the peso continues to fall since the beginning of the year the argentinian currency has lost forty five percent of its value against the dollar the country's central bank has spent weeks desperately sending off its currency reserves in an attempt to stabilize the peso but to no avail nor has president morrissey omak reason peeled to the international monetary fund to speed up disinvestments from the country's fifty billion dollar credit line foreign
4:21 pm
investors and the public have lost faith. we're going to resemble the money it doesn't trust the government and especially its economic team i think that if the finance minister and the central bank president caputo don't step aside very soon things will get much worse it's not a case of poor economic decisions the main problem is that those in charge of lost credibility if you're going to go as a go if you know. go for growth is at the moment. and yet until recently the center right president was seen as a dynamic reformer he opened argentina up for trade and investments attracted companies to the country all paid for with foreign capital but it's not clear whether the loans will be repaid debt payments of almost twenty five billion dollars on june next year rising interest rates in the u.s. are one reason for the crisis it's now more lucrative to pump cash there and that's
4:22 pm
not just affecting argentina the ruble the south african rand the turkish lira and the brazilian ryall are all plummeting political conflicts are making things worse argentina may have further to fall protests against the government are growing and the nation's biggest union c g.t. says it has strikes planned to. let's bring in craig a senior market analyst at foreign exchange. in london good to have you with us how worrying is argentina's decline for investors. it is worrying i mean really when you see the currency equipment in the way that the peso hospital last couple of days but even going but beyond that is obviously not really a concern it seems this crisis is not a hand the government is clearly now relying on the i.m.f. to call them in and provide some much needed stability in order to prevent the crisis worsening because ultimately this is going to lead to extremely difficult
4:23 pm
times for people in the country something that unfortunately how become a cult of course them to follow in the crisis back in two thousand and one which is why they're not that keen on i am f.l.p. to start off with of course but we see it is not just argentina there are other emerging markets currencies are also struggling to turkish lira the brazilian believe the indian rupee what is the connection. well not really when people start to see a crisis emerging in one of these countries they naturally start to look at all the countries that fall into the same basket this emerging market basket which is seen as as having containing higher risks. due to the part of the cycle that it is within and looking for countries of similar trends and those trends tend to be large corn account deficits large borrowing in foreign currencies typically u.s. dollars the ones are more vulnerable to interest rate hikes in the u.s. which strengthen the dollar and weaken their own currency and what we're seeing is
4:24 pm
that those are being highlighted we are no stranger to the troubles in turkey and they have a political crisis on top of that was c. in south africa is being targeted as well we're even seeing a say it's all off as you say in india and the economy that is actually performing relatively well but they do have a large current account deficit and the high oil prices when they go into may got worse so not too late those tend to spread across and eventually it will even catch up in the in the in the emerging economies actually have a much better health just simply because they fall in the same basket investors want to pull their money out because they don't to be the last ones out the door but when we look at the stability of the global economy as a whole how important is this debility of imagine market economies. it's extremely important because we have to remember that they maybe imagine you're quite amazing when i put them in a specific boss which makes them feel and sound separate but the role in killing the specially when we look at the financial system we've had in recent weeks a lot about how exposed to european banks for example law to take its turkey and
4:25 pm
the difficulties that the banking system is having that the u.k. included but also the likes of italy etc do have exposure to techies so if you see it unfold that will have negative implications around this also the global economy aspect as well these countries typically trade with other countries so anything that makes will implicate. effects demand from these countries again how thought knock on effect will this. on this you know market at least and in london thank you so much thank you. terry how secure is our cyber system not as secure as we would like it to be monica least as for the german government thinks they've decided to set up a you know an agency to deal with the germany faces a daily barrage of cyber attacks on its government and industrial computer networks so the government has announced the creation of a new agency to fund research on cybersecurity that will also reduce reliance on
4:26 pm
technologies from the u.s. china and other countries. in february twenty sixth ina number of operations were postponed at a hospital in the german city of noice the reason an attack on the computer systems it's just one example of many the german government wants to better protect the country and its citizens in the future with the creation of a new federal agency germany currently lags behind in cybersecurity. germany should take the lead internationally in cyber security or at least a leading role. by name and. several systems are already in place to deal with cyber security in germany the new agency will promote research the german defense minister says the security efforts will require more funding and more urgency from. the we want to overcome these two issues with the new agency it has to function in a different way it will have to tackle issues even if there's
4:27 pm
a chance it may fail. critics claim the government not only wants to better protect itself but also launch its own attacks on both the security gaps will be kept open in the future it will be kept secret from the population and the economy so they can attack others this will lead to even further insecurity. the german defense minister says that's not the agency's purpose and according to the interior minister counterattacks will be permitted only under special circumstances. and we all know pigs can't fly but it turns out fish sort of the u.s. state of utah has revealed its stalks trout in its high mountain lakes like this these are being these are fish being dropped from a specially fitted airplane for forty meters above the water sure it probably is probably a shock for the playfish but experts say over ninety five percent of them survive the. stressful in the traditional method.
4:28 pm
homeland two thousand and four celebrations as it joins the. polenta two thousand and ten right wing demonstrations to judiciary under the government's time critics treated like criminals as the country changed so much it will have little old and we want no one will impose their will on us ever again poland a crossroads a new crisis for the e.u. . in forty five minutes on. hijacking the news. where i go wrong the news is being hijacked journalism itself has become a scripted reality show it's not just good versus evil us versus them black and white. in countries like russia china churchy people are told is that it's not
4:29 pm
and if you're a journalist there and you try to get beyond that you are facing scare tactics intimidation. and i wonder is that where we're headed as well. my responsibility as a journalist is to get beyond his smoke and mirrors it's not just about the prayer and balance or being neutral it's about being truthful. when he was part of golf and i were getting all. these creations around for this brand. to come knock off an icon of the fashion. look what do we really know about a man behind the torch. what motivates him how does he think and feel private moments in the life of a great fashion designer. someone special tough it starts september not
4:30 pm
w. . welcome back to news i'm terry march and our top story right wing groups are expected to stage fresh demonstrations in the east german city of kenneth's today some twenty people were injured earlier in the week when around seven thousand protesters many of them far right nationalists clashed with leftwing demonstrators you know the rest was triggered by a man being stabbed to death. for centuries the caste system in nepal has discriminated against members of the lowest hindu caste known as the dalai it's their access to jobs and education is limited and they're often treated as inferior by members of other castes but now and n.g.o.s hoping to improve the fate of one group of women by teaching them to farm as the w.'s kilian should so reports from nepal it's hoped this will lead to
4:31 pm
a bigger social change. it's tommy has never had it easy she lives in a tiny corrugated iron hut with her husband and son near katmandu every now and then she works as a day laborer at construction sites or in the fields earning the equivalent of three or four year olds. but she sees no need to complain and says she's happy the only thing that really bothers her is discrimination. and it's has its roots and yet it hasn't dally to woman i face many problems living here i'm a day laborer when i work for someone in an upper cost house they usually don't give me food and i have to go to a cafe at the café they also need to eat my meal outside and rinse off my dishes myself. delegates are traditionally considered impure in the caste system they are the lowest of the low that often means being denied access to education and jobs
4:32 pm
and above all a lack of respect. the centuries old caste system is rooted in hinduism many believe that their own fate is determined by destiny and with good karma their soul might be reborn into a higher caste. many nepalese are deeply religious especially in rural areas high in the himalayan mountains. the village of revenue opi is a two hour drive from kathmandu the slopes are steep the soil is dry and now the monsoon season is about to begin. be mala to lunch
4:33 pm
she belongs to the meat jar cast the mountain dolly it's she faces even more hurdles due to a lack of well paid jobs her husband has left the country now he works in malaysia's oil industry but the mala doesn't know exactly what he does. last summer he left for at least three years he's never even seen their young daughter. this doesn't do that. it would be so much better if my husband could stay here in nepal. even be to have found a job in farming or some other kind of job he would be a helping hand. he could take the children to school or help when someone is sick but we have no choice. if that access. thanks to her husband's earnings to launch she has some livestock her house is larger than some of the others here she used to mainly tend to the household and work from time to time as a day laborer. but then her life took an unexpected turn the
4:34 pm
international climate protection and development organization began providing agricultural training to women in the region giving priority to those whose husbands have left to find work a project coordinator from a local ngo pays regular visits today he showing the women the correct way to plant tomatoes. and so. we gather it here when really practical how to group of plants or how they can sans the. sites by precise so you smart getting them. organizing dos to some parts practical training already peerless course so this is how we are training these are all violent of it went on as before i wasn't all that interested in agriculture. and i only used traditional farming methods which don't provide much income you got
4:35 pm
it after the first people left to find work the ones left behind just sat idle but now we understand agriculture and can put our time to good use. for many local da lates the program has been a boon. to the district administration believes that giving opportunities to the lowest caste is long overdue. or that some out there start with the caste system in nepal follows the centuries old philosophy that divide society into forecasts with it's at the bottom. have long been part of our labor force supporting development and improving society in our society is undergoing very rapid change it's becoming more inclusive this old caste based way of thinking will be eradicated very soon. ever deletes aren't so optimistic they fear the longstanding discrimination they face won't change anytime soon yet many nepalese
4:36 pm
especially the younger generation dream of a country without a caste system. the village of culture bessie were you see mode has launched its training program shows what this future might look like the local women many of them delegates have joined forces their farming operation is thriving they've invented a new kind of organic fertilizer made of plants cow dung microorganisms and water which they spray on their fields. these cucumbers and pumpkins are grown organically the women tell us. every few days traders come by to pick up the vegetables and then sell them at markets at the project originally aimed to prepare local women for the impact of climate change including drought and erosion. but the women soon took charge themselves ignoring caste distinctions in the process. leading. none kishore aggro all helped get the project off the ground and.
4:37 pm
we try to work with the people to find out what does the simple thing be they can do them selfs. do to improve their country sense to improve their livelihood or to do man is that isn't that bad we did not even imagine that it didn't go to the extent that it will the president people will then send through start doing a lot of things. so bazzani from the suburb of katmandu has also taken matters into her own hands she's building a larger house. progress is slow because she always has to save up the money for the next step. but she's patient and determined. and she's no longer willing to accept discrimination for being a dolly. i get. people don't understand where all the saying they think i'm weak but i'm not i'm strong enough to fight being treated like that if some in the community don't want to see
4:38 pm
it that way that's their problem i don't want to be treated like i'm inferior to others off the fight that however long it takes. it's a battle for dignity and respect and a possible future without a caste system. now to the case of ugandan politician bobby wine the united nations are going human rights chief says he's deeply concerned about allegations that authorities in uganda tortured wine and several other politicians detained on treason charges winds case has touched a nerve in the country he's a high profile challenger to uganda's longtime president yoweri miss seventy and he was arrested in mid august after stones were thrown at the president's convoy one was released on bail earlier this week in appeared using crutches julius reports on how ugandans are venting their frustrations over the case and what they

and many see they thought the six year old hopes to as their voice. will be when he's presenting me. is a voice of me as a youth because me too and we use because what this thing is real and it is this you've seen will come from an entirely socially he speaks a lot of things and but naturally speaking i wouldn't. say that he inspires me like. i'm going to the street song doing whatever he has been doing because the other ways of handling things yeah very my voice really represents my voice because he talks about the things that affect. and he's a you with it talks about unemployment education or option despite the supports above b. one enjoys especially among young people mainly because it'll campolo present during the seventy's government seems to have

a different perspective of the margin politician who is also bottling christened charges in court does the. moment and i don't think it is largely that that he's even viewed as the president to be or of course there's been a lot of framing around events are on him. by his group and on his one hundred laws where he's been portrayed largely as a victim but this is just a fleeting moment and it will probably pass. but the wine was voted to parliament last year in a by election where he defeated four child in just including one backed by president must've in. less than two years in office this has been strongly critical of governments. anyone who is a serious political needs to sit back and evaluate that quote is will

be wayne reprise into when he talks about people power you know what is he trying to say is in there any weight in the words that he's expressing to us today right and shouldn't the president to kids. rig a star has enjoyed more than fifteen years of a successful music career voisey's making it in entertainment has been an uphill struggle but challenging a government that has been in power for forty two years could prove to be his biggest struggle yet. i. think is back with a look at a difficult. corner of germany's later it's a very very important job for society terry but it's difficult to get the right people for it fresh data from the federal labor ministry show german unemployment ticked up slightly in organs it's in line with expectations of students and school
4:43 pm
leavers registers unemployed over the summer and the number of people looking for work remains the lowest in twenty seven years that's posing a challenge as many positions remain vacant it's an acute problem especially in the health care sector where there aren't enough young people choosing to work as caregivers now hospitals and nursing homes are increasingly turning to workers from abroad they're not only available but also cheaper. twenty four year old christian got souly got work as a caregiver at berlin's shouted to a hospital directly after completing his training in albania only applicants with good german language skills had a chance here at europe's biggest university clinic otherwise the paperwork on the wards would have been too difficult or how i'll go through the hole in the hospitals at home we have a different system of it here the documentation is more important everything has to be recorded up about this or that or the organization here is
4:44 pm
a better structure than in my country office. back home christiane might not even have found a job the pay in germany is attractive. here earns twenty two hundred euros a month net in albania it would have been a tenth of that and the working conditions are harder here he says with far fewer staff on the wards but he says his job in germany is a huge chance he has an open ended contract because skilled workers like him are sought after the shop it is three main facilities lack hundreds of caregivers so the director in charge of nursing hired workers from abroad initially from albania soon more will be arriving from mexico what's iraq one could or could it has that's not said one basic condition it had to be a country that was not itself suffering from a shortage of nursing staff a body in albania surprisingly produces in trans more caregivers than it needs and that's how we got the idea of val down he. called. the luisa s.k.

she was hired to help integrate the seventy albanians in the program. christian get souly has come for advice on finding a new apartment ever since he arrived last year and space has been the go to person for any problems. we had it didn't take care of a lot of official things we get them health insurance open a bank account go to the company doctor get the contract signed talkin gosh. christian is not sure how long he'll stay in germany but he feels comfortable on the ward for the hospital that's a sign of the program's success in october it will bring in nursing staff from mexico. so right now germany lacks ten thousand nurses can give us earlier we spoke to alex on the ball state an economist at the german economic institute and i asked him how such an important service to society could be made was attractive if you have too few people selecting their selves in the occupation
4:46 pm
then you should do anything you can to make this occupation more attractive wages are one one aspect and that another thing is the working conditions and for sure in the in the care sector we have a high workload and yeah you have to address this but i think politics already acknowledge that and are doing something to change that so for for one they are. they are now making the book ational education that leads to that occupation more attractive in the in the past it was quite expensive and took took very long and in the same time you could study and learn my money so it's easy for young people to select something else because they can choose they are few we need them and every occupation has to be attractive to have people selecting themselves and it's not only the caste sector the care sector is very much affected but it's also

traditional crafts like plumbers and construction we have. like in technicians like electricians or anyone is a skilled worker with metal all synthetics it's not only i t. and engineering anymore it's very very much about the non academic skilled workers which we desperately need and this is going to become very much more. all right enough turning to the makers of jack daniels whiskey because that makers feeling the pain of the trade spat between the e.u. and the u.s. brown foreman has issued a profit warning whiskey is among the american products targeted by brussels retaliatory terrorists which includes peanut butter and harley davidson motorcycles a price hike has not helped the tennessee whisky maker offset losses as a result of the terrorist while the e.u. and the u.s. have to cease their ongoing conflict some products will continue to be affected by tariffs until the two trading partners can come to an agreement.

pictures from the red carpet at the venice film festival which kicks off of its most star studded editions on wednesday with ryan gosling claire four and naomi watts among the top talent there to greet the crowds many more expected including lady gaga emma stone and phoenix for its seventy fifth edition the first full on the lido is bolstering its status as the launching pad for many an oscar winner publicly and to support its line up. love the glamour the speaking of glamour occur. from v.w. culture is here to talk about bettas film festival first off there it seems like every self respecting film festival these days has to kick off with some sort of controversy no surprise in this case gender it's
4:49 pm
a gender issue again it looks that way as the as the film industry is endeavoring to write some of the age old wrongs that have characterized it until today so this one opened yesterday obviously was slammed immediately from for its toxic masculinity because only one single female director is included in the entire competition lineup of twenty one film so that's the nightingale which is a gothic thriller by the australian director jennifer kent jury. president get out of toto where you'll remember from best picture oscar and best director last year with the shape of water he was very quick to recognize the folk pot and personally endorsed the fifty fifty by twenty twenty campaign that was launched last just at the last count film festival and here's why it's not a matter over establishing. a quota is a matter of in this time precisely in this time of the numbers each one is extremely important to call it out and to question and to name and to make it known . and i think that is necessary because for many they cade's not
4:50 pm
spencer is not has not been called. so yet i'm indebted toto calling it out there even that even though the festival director of battle bought a bad us that he'd rather quit than succumb to the pressure of gender equality pledges told us that it would in the fifty fifty by twenty nineteen would be even better so there seems to be some clear intent and pressure there to make things more inclusive and i think a lot of people are in agreement that is the oldest film festival in the world of venice really does have a responsibility to be at the forefront of an issue like this now let's talk about the line up a little bit for this i've heard it here it's out of this world are totally more about it's absolutely amazing a really interesting mix this year and probably at least half a dozen films that we're going to see popping up during oscar season in just a few months time starting with the opening film first man that's by damon of la la land fame and once again he's teamed up with ryan gosling so let's have

mexico city. roma is one of six films at the festival produced by the online streaming service netflix. so keyword netflix there terry that's a really big deal actually because back in may the cannes film festival banned the streaming giants films from competition completely which led netflix of course to withdraw entirely so venice proving to be certainly much more progressive on that front and embracing the changes in the production landscape and it looks like cannes last is perhaps venice again for this time around ok time of progressive lady gaga. here she'll be gracing the first of all of what you've been up to yeah she is starring in the latest remake of a star is born it's actually been remade this is the third time which viewers will remember the one nine hundred seventy six version with kris kristofferson many viewers anyway and barbra streisand our lady gaga has been flirting with acting for some time now and this is to be her first
4:54 pm
major role it's also the directorial debut of her costar bradley cooper who plays the season to musician who discovers the starlet struggling artist etc i don't know how this one's going to turn out but it's sure to be a big draw because lady gaga is an incredible showstopper and we finally get to see her first of all without all that makeup and her voice does get a lot of air time in this film with a brand new song but she also co-wrote sell some great stuff german films in this film has anything noteworthy to mention my i couldn't wait for you to ask it's very exciting because the german director for. korea remember from best for an oscar back in two thousand and seven for the lives of others he is back never look away is the title of his competition entry and we just heard this morning that it will indeed be germany's submission for the academy awards foreign language film category this year so it stars german actor tom schilling as an artist who has
