usual work when the explosion happened in front of our district offices where our building was destroyed i had myself under the table there was a lot of gunfire at our gate and someone called me to check if we were say but when i came out i saw many people laying on the ground injured while others were dead. medics said many of those hurt including several students from the nearby islamic school who are severely injured one witness said the bomber had tried to speed through a checkpoint at the building but then blew himself up when he was stopped by security forces. i saw bodies strewn on the ground before the ambulances arrived and the whole scene was very ugly. but. the militant group al-shabaab claimed responsibility immediately they're trying to overthrow somalis internationally backed government. people have been gathering again in the eastern german city of

kenneth's today to take a stand against far right violence and racism the demonstration was called by the evan jellicoe lutheran church religious leaders as well as state and local politicians gave speeches calling for tolerance and unity speakers said they represent the majority in kenya it's it follows on the heels of a divisive week of anti immigrant protests and counter protest sparked by the killing of a german resident last weekend to asylum seekers are in custody over the killing. our correspondent is in kenya story for us good to see you but a tense yesterday can you tell us what you saw and what people there attending you . yes the threat of violence was in the air throughout the day yesterday the fear that we would see a repeat of some of the scenes last weekend on monday evening was palpable things
6:04 pm
did launch the remain peaceful police said that there was a minor scuffles a number of injuries some people were detained they said they were able to keep the rival protest is a pause that's not to say that there wasn't a lot of anger from people on the streets here on the side of the far right protesters they were extremely angry. government's immigration policies they were chanting things like. there was also a huge mistrust is the media among a number of protesters a lot of them that we spoke to said that they felt that their legitimate concerns about immigration were being misrepresented in the press on the other side meanwhile there was a lot of among the council process is about some of the scenes that have unfolded over the last week or so people in particular who are drawing attention to the nazi salute that was seen performed by a small group at the far right protesters during the rally on monday the county

yesterday telling us that that's simply cannot happen on the streets of germany they said that they wanted to go to the streets takes the streets to show a different face of chemist different sides to the one that's been around the world aside that's very clear that refugees migrants are welcome here in germany and of course the police in saxony drafted in reinforcement from other german federal states of to criticism about how they handled the incident last week how exactly did that work yesterday. so there were hundreds of police on the streets yesterday and not just yesterday if i just door attention to just behind me there's still an enormous police presence on the streets today that's because there's a small gathering of protesters again who are protesting against some of the far right activism that we've seen on the streets over the last week in kennett yesterday they had not just police in riot gear you also had police on horses you
6:06 pm
had water cannon going through the streets as a terrence for any escalation of violence they would use but there really was a huge difference here on the streets and scenes of the number of police here and what we've seen in the week and police were able to keep the two sides largely apart shelob is different views here in germany about migration policy and obviously many people are concerned about growing far right sentiment i want us to listen to what germany's foreign minister had to say and then we'll come back to you. in cannes this is more than worrying a man who was brutally killed on a public street followed by mobs chasing people through the city. people giving the nazis salute and not just isolated individuals. my colleagues abroad have been asking me what's going on in germany that's why i'm glad to see that so many democrats are taking a stand in kenya making clear that
6:07 pm
a large majority of germans want to live in an open tolerant country. so shallow of concern from the foreign minister but how deep of the divisions in german society over this issue. yeah well it has to be made clear that scenes like the ones we've seen playing out in canada and not playing out across germany kennett's really has become an epicenter for some of the dissatisfaction in germany this divided opinion over germany's immigration policies over the last few years people from across the region bussed in on both sides to the protests over the last few days but saxony in particular the state where kevin is located is pretty divided we saw that last year in the national elections saxony voted for the f.t. the far right party to be the strongest party in those national elections it's expected that they have to do very well in regional elections next year so that

just goes to show exactly how divided this city this state is in particular. some people reporting from candidates thank you. yes now have a look at some of the other stories making news around the world protesters have rallied in several russia says he is against government plans to raise the country's pension age this despite recent pledges by president vladimir putin to soften the unpopular measures the government's new proposal would delay pension eligibility for by five years for both women and men. u.s. defense secretary james mattis has canceled three hundred million dollars in aid to pakistan citing a lack of decisive action against militants the u.s. believes pakistan has allowed certain terror groups especially near the afghanistan border to operate the u.s. secretary of state is due in islamabad next week. egypt has

ratified a new law that critics say will silence political dissent on social media the law gives the government new powers to monitor people with large online followings it's part of a series of legislation enacted by president. that takes aim at so-called cyber crime honesty international has criticized cissie calling the recent legislation quote an assault on on life. the group says that the legislation is vaguely defined and could allow the government to censor any dissent on social media. well i mean to see if has been following the story for us. it's good to see you here so what exactly does this new legislation into really with the new ball does is it's going to say that anybody who has five thousand followers or more on social media sites like facebook and twitter will be considered a media outlet and can be punished for certain right exactly so this can range from journalists and bloggers who do work in the media to anybody who has
6:10 pm
a popular account on social media. and it's not just about surveillance so the law states that anybody with five thousand followers can be surveilled by the government but it's not just about that there's also a ban. let's take a look at what this law actually bans it mandates that publishing fake news will be outlawed. puts a ban on inciting. people to break the law it prohibits filming in place in certain places and also running unlicensed websites if you notice the language in this law is pretty vague as some activists have said it takes a fake news which is a term that became popular in the u.s. and in europe over the past couple of years but it doesn't exactly define what fake news is which has a lot of activists worried because the law actually also comes with punishments that could be anything from having your social media account closed to fines to actual jail time so given how vague and potentially punitive this law is what's the reaction been in egypt well actually it seems that the law i mean the impression is
6:11 pm
that the law is actually taking effect already because we looked on twitter and we could not find so many people talking about it which is unusual so we did find some reactions we can take a look at that now we have one social media user and we've blurred out the account so you can't just to protect their identity said the internet law was ratified yesterday so i better not say anything because what you say. and then we have another one here this twitter user said this new internet law. is meant to crack down on the young people who are not already in jail god help us. so you can see that their reactions are ranging anywhere from humorous like the first tweet to out right frightened of this new law well i mean a safe thank you so much for bringing us that story and for your insight on the same thank you. well as venezuela's economic and political crisis wears on hundreds of thousands have been fleeing the country some have made their

make their way up to the state and federal government some say their ultimate goal is to see venezuelans overthrow maduro's regime and able in those in exile to return. i look what i'm eating much the same level as the cuban american who basically did in the u.s. longer and have more influence in local u.s. politics but he got even though many organizations are pursuing the same goals collaboration isn't a given the venezuelan community is fragmented in terms of their socio economic status and political beliefs. is that when you look at the little had problems in venezuela exist in the us as well. there's a lack of unity in the community we need to organize ourselves better and work together or we're going to satisfy the horde pinero couldn't gain enough votes for this year's election the exile communities goals may be lofty but according to the people of doral they have just gotten started. it watching the news live from
