1:01 pm
when i consider the situation in syria the issue of migration and it's also our relationship this characterized by the fact that for many decades we have millions of people of turkish descent living in germany some of them now having become german citizens as having dual nationality while some european and the turkish nationality as results of this we did discuss this in detail i have shot the president that the interests of these citizens. just as important to us and we are trying to. fight for a life in this country which is nondiscriminatory that we try to help them to be integrated that we stand behind them and if there are attacks in a phobic attack someone of the reasons. why i was personally present

day twenty fifth anniversary of the ass not versed reinstalling and together with the turkish foreign minister. sure will show because we know that the interests which were caused by such crimes have not been here don't we know that despite everything we have a lot to do in order to annette tranced. these are the reasons why the developments in turkey are always important for our center. this is why among others we discussed as everybody will have been aware of our relationship particularly in the recent years and seen some profound differences which still exist today mainly this has to do with the questions. about the rule of law the freedom of the media. and we are very pleased that some concrete cases could be resolved that some
1:03 pm
people were released but there are still some german citizens who are imprisoned in tracking and i did and will continue to urge these cases to be resolved quickly. tomorrow over breakfast we would also discuss some of these issues in greater detail. germany is interested in an economically stable. country which can show economic growth which is why of course we discussed bilateral questions of economic cooperation as well. there was also. a visit or a number of visits the relevant turkish ministers preparing for this meeting and today we could build on that so some concrete matters were dressed the minister of economic affairs of germany peter out came to visit turkey we have a joint commission that is going. to meet for the first time and for the second

time the german turkish energy forum well i mean i really want them to find their president and has set up an office right near the president that deals with our. ecological cooperation and that is one area which i mentor. very closely we address the issue of migration and turkey is doing examinee work regarding the fact that housing more than three million syrian refugees in their own country obviously it was one of the issues we discussed in that wider context and we will go into greater detail again tomorrow we advocate a meeting of the four parties with the turkish the russian the french president myself. and we hope for such a meeting to be helped before the end of october. moreover we discussed the implementation of the e.u. turkey agreement we stand by the commitments we had in two and one hundred to make
1:05 pm
sure also in the future that funds provided by the european union for refugee projects is made available without bureaucratic obstacles or. cooperation regarding the committing of terrorism is also to. intensify as we have a lot of contacts that will be reactivated after ministerial level we also see an intensive dialogue of foreign affairs ministers not just concerning matters of foreign policy but also instances regarding german schools in turkey all questions important to turkish citizens living and we would like to live their cultural life here so on the one hand we do have a chance to teach again tristin enjoying good relations. and germany also has an interest in developing this relationship but on the other. particularly in all

these questions. a democratic free society what that should look like there are some very profound i said misunderstandings but i meant to say differences of opinion and sometimes maybe misunderstandings but our primary differences and these differences are reflected in the fact that we have some german nationals imprisoned him a turkey but it goes further than even the doubts and i consider the visit to be particularly important because when there are differences it requires a personal conversation to resolve them if you don't talk to each other you will not arrive at a joint position and sometimes this sort of thing can take a long time but i always commit to such an exchange which is why i'm very pleased we have this opportunity today and i'm going forward to our meeting tomorrow as well. so you just heard it. all not unless the chancellor. you know and obviously and members of our delegation
1:07 pm
. representatives of the press let me give you a warm welcome. and we are not rich. if you do this some years but i have returned to germany now bearing the title of the president of the states and my friend was this time as a suit an invitation and it is an invitation i was happy to take up many thanks for that i have also makes the chancellor and so i would of course also like to thank the chancellor for as well as all the other german authorities. the minister for economic affairs peter out my is going to visit our country in october accompanied by a large delegation and. we have
1:08 pm
a stage in our relationship where we are paying each other high ranking visits and i hope that this indicates a further intensifying of our relationship with the different mechanisms for corporation which haven't always been so tight. are intended as we've agreed with the chancellor to be reinforced just part of our bilateral cooperation we addressed a number of different it says and tomorrow morning we are going to have another meeting on education we are going to give a common have a comprehensive exchange of. politics the military and trade culture tourism these are some of the areas we would like to address a sense. a few weeks ago. german foreign minister heiko mosse visited. him last week from the turkish
1:09 pm
side we had our minister of finance and the treasury i got minister for trade visiting germany. and we. i see that a lot of support is given to these meetings. of course if you go back twenty sixteen you know there was a failed coup attempt and you know that our own citizens stood up to this attempted coup. and it's now. we have the the remnants of this terrorist organization which is responsible for two hundred fifty one people having lost their lives and over two hundred thirty being injured after this attempted coup. we acted against this terror organization. with all legal means at our disposal. and we established the foundation in turkey and the recent years we've also tried
1:10 pm
to combat this terrorist organization in which we've been successful funding of the twenty four june elections we have lifted. emergency powers and that means that now our country. is going to. start on the course of reforms again. we have a commission which has already started to work and of course we want to make sure that now we want to improve the situation between our countries we have made german citizen except our visa we have another visa request as well and we have discussions about a customs union this would definitely benefit a european union this is all a critical phase and of course that is a phase which must not be. damaged by

a political interference from any particular circles or by any particular approaches we need to continue on the path of approaches we have initiated. which we value within turkey in. other problems regarding syria and other areas in the region has seen as showed a great deal of responsibility the syrian conflict has been waging for over seven years cobbling which many people have lost their lives that is a stage we would like to see come to an end and here we agree with germany. for the time being there are three point five million syrian refugees being housed in turkey. and in particular. we. see german a sensitive when we're talking about the humanitarian situation and we're seeing
1:12 pm
what germany has been done to help the seven refugees and we are grateful for that responsibility has been taken the willingness to make sacrifices what's shown in this phase and it did provide relief in the let's start off but in recent days trade relations. have been very much protection is. that is you know we agree with germany. we would like to take measures against such protectionism because we are aware that this would constitute a danger for the global security as well. as part of our conversations we have also seen and i've told the chancellor that the turkish economy is on a sound and for any fluctuations which do occur. for spawn way of structural measures so not to asians will only happen few and far
1:13 pm
times between there are other areas of the economy where we are seeing dangers but we are prepared to meet such challenges and will do so. it is extremely important to us to cooperate with germany primarily in field of economic affairs because we consider this to be a win win approach and it is indeed encouraging that our cooperation here has to be intensified in the future one of the most important specific feature of our relations concern the three and a half million people of turkish descent living in germany. these people will retain their roots but. we also encourage them and promote them to integrate into germany when it comes to education in particular they want to make sure they have equal opportunities and that this will further enhance
1:14 pm
integration on the other hand when we're talking about p k k these are terrorist organizations and we need to combat such terrorist organizations and obviously in this context we request them to be combatives more strongly which is a matter we did raise with the translator we have very happy about declarations made recently by the german side. and we are going to work together more closely most strongly in the times to come when we're talking about. judicial independence. legal decisions it's extremely important that you like any other country show respect i mean everybody believes in law and democracy and then you will be receiving.
1:15 pm
justice as well so in this period once again thank you very much for your kind of paternity. if i only been sort of larry king is it. i would like to ask a question to the chancellor and the president there was an article which you wrote as a guest. journalists as it were in germany mr president here you reject the fact that germany is not supporting the commenting on the p.k. enough and that the great movement is not. prosecuted what have you been discussing about this particular organization in turkey and what about the exhibition of individuals you've demanded as far as i'm concerned i can say that the p.k. k. is a bad organization in germany accordingly all p.k. activities about this well we have discussed that in detail this time about to do
