celebrate this day the days and going to continue around burdens iconic brandenburg gate which will be a party zone in effect for the public for. hundreds of thousands of people are expected to gather there will be concerts they are displays and they will end here in berlin with a fireworks display ok so festivities formalities but what about where germany is today twenty eight years after political reunification what are the main differences hons that still divide people in what used to be east and west germany . yes i think one has to say this question is still controversial in germany the off people who say that the differences between the east and the west being over emphasized that one should rather emphasize the issue of unity the fact that there has been unity in germany for decades and on that they are equal opportunities for all people everywhere in germany but the fact remains that there still is some

sense of a different mentality between people that live in the former east germany the former communist germany and those that grew up and had their education and so on the former waste and i think the most visible sign of that is the fact that the political landscape in the eastern part of germany is significantly different from the political landscape in the west in fact the right wing political parties are a lot stronger in eastern germany then they are in western germany and that seems to be an indication of a feeling of dissatisfaction in the east ok well given that what's the general mood on this occasion hans is it more celebratory or somber briefly if you can. i think you have to say it's more somber because as i've been indicating the rise of right wing pop politics in germany and the loss of support by the major governing parties has led to a feeling that the political situation in general in germany is changing and one is

not quite sure what is coming next what the future holds thank you so much political correspondent hans but. now scientists have successfully landed an observation device on an asteroid the japanese space agency confirmed the landing a short while ago the german french probe named mascot touchdown on the asteroid. it was launched on a japanese rocket nearly four years ago mascot is part of an effort to find clues about the origin of the solar system. the spacecraft journey took three and a half years only making the final approach in recent weeks. finally the critical moment is at hand the mothership drops mask gently towards the asteroid surface mascot's lightweight help i'm sure it wouldn't be damaged by the impact but it had to land on

a flat surface to unpack itself and get to work. my colleagues and i attached the camera to the module the most exciting thing for me is the first image when you see what's up there it's like you were there yourself. hundreds of researchers worked for months to find the perfect landing spot it had to offer something of interest for everyone but it couldn't be too hot or too cold so that mascots batteries didn't run out and it could send the most out of possible . asteroids like real who are like exhibits from our deepest past they've been around more than four and a half billion years formed from the same cloud of matter that made the planets the original materials have remained virtually unchanged and asteroids this kilometer long chunk of rock is interesting to scientists for another reason too.

because its trajectory crosses the earth's orbit it could someday collide with the earth. and that's something we very much like to prevent or. if you know exactly how it's composed then you could think whether to give it a little push away change its rotation for instance so that it would fly past earth in the end the. mascot is barely bigger than a shoe box but it's loaded up with high tech instruments they'll be put to use now figuring out the composition of reuse surface inside mascot is a kind of flywheel that will help the module hop around a real good surface and investigate but mascot doesn't have much time its batteries are only expected to last six. hours the first pictures are expected to arrive back on earth in the coming days. in champions league soccer byron munich had to settle for a one one draw at home last night against i.x.
