germany's football slump continues a heavy defeat against the netherlands coach you walk in move under pressure after a string of over zones. i'm carl assman thanks for joining us. people in the german state of the bay area have started voting in the lection that could cause a political earthquake not only in their own state but in berlin as well a very in voters tend to be conservative and have kept the christian a social union this c.s.u. in power for decades but opinion surveys show that this time around they're in a mood for change and it's likely that the c.s.u. will lose its absolute majority chancellor angela merkel in berlin is watching this election closely because the c.s.u. is part of her national coalition government. the election in

bavaria instills hope in some fear in others and the mood around burdened sky stack is growing tends to varia is hundreds of kilometers away from here but parties in berlin expect an earthquake that could shake up german politics as a whole. inside that high stack building all parties are busy carrying out internal meetings the conservative parties are especially nervous. christian democratic union form a parliamentary group with their bavarian system party the christian social union. they are bracing for disastrous results the c.s.u. has never been as low in opinion polls as it is now. it's an alarm bell we have to make efforts to strengthen the traditional parties

again we have to work on getting the core of society excited about politics again. those most excited about politics are outside that core the far right a fifty party might enter the bavarian parliament. going to good mood of course we expected to get forty percent of the vote and. the greens are also expected to do well the general trend sees smaller parties gaining from the larger parties losses the social democrats are also using voters. the blame game will almost certainly begin after the poor results the two big centrist parties are projected to get and many will point in this direction and hold chancellor america responsible for the decline of their party's. america's current government was formed just seven months ago the toughest period ahead following the bavarian election.

maximiliano coasts sorry is at a polling station for us and the various capital of munich a max of voting started what a couple hours ago now so how's turnout looking where you are. yes the polling stations here in bavaria opened at eight am this morning and where i'm standing here in the middle of munich it's already been a couple of people coming in there's nine point five million people in the very eligible to vote and could make a decision on the new state parliament today and here in munich it's going to be particularly interesting because right behind me where already checked in with the commissioner of the election polling booth here said it's quite a lot of people already coming in more than usual more in the law than in the last years which could have two reasons one is there is a big marathon happening here in munich today and roads will be closed throughout the day still of people trying to get their vote costs now and the other reasons of course this is a very important election for a very a lot of people have been paying attention to the complaints of the people have

a feeling for change and they want to make their voice heard and pass the vote really sounds like a busy day there in munich we've been hearing a lot of course about how the governing c.s.u. they're bracing for some bad results today in your opinion how bad could this possibly get for them. well the interesting thing again is that a large portion of the vote has almost the heart of them are still undecided and this is always been quite good for the conservatives the varian conservatives here and so it could be that the result may not be as bad as the current polls are suggesting but that still as the polls of suggesting quite historically bad another thing that's quite interesting is going to see how the virtual turnout is going to be that's also a low turnout has also always benefited this user because they have a very stable voter base and those people always come out and the question now is going to be are those people of mobilized who've always been like in the recent weeks of a quiet controversy come pain of the season who were now leaning towards the a

fifty the far right a fifty or two would stick greens are they now actually coming out and is there going to be increasing the voter turnout and these people who are tending to go away from the seas are actually going to vote today. max let's talk about the translator here quickly how much of a threat does this bode pose for her could anglo-american be even more damaged by this election. well this to fact is there are going to be important. watching probably this election today the one thing is that of course state election always kind of taking temperature for berlin so there's going to be just moods that we can observe how voters are feeling about the building government as current surveys have suggested the very voters are very interested in what's happening there and so they're not only polling on their states government here they're also polling on how berlin has been having and we've seen a lot of crisis in the government that's been formed six months ago and of course the other person that is really important is the interior minister i'm going to

michael whose job may be on the line today right voting just underway there in munich max coast thank you very much now to some of the other stories making news around the world u.s. president donald trump has met with andrew bronson the american pastor is read from turkish detention brunson was arrested two years ago on terrorism charges it was his case contributed to serious friction between washington and uncorrupt president trump says the pastor's release marks a tremendous stuff in u.s. turkish relations. and anti-racism rally in berlin drew an estimated two hundred forty thousand people on saturday that's according to organizers protesters marched with signs backing tolerance for bike lanes and in opposition to fall right groups the demonstration is one of germany's biggest political rallies in recent years. russian opposition leader alexina vol me has been released after serving twenty days in jail he was held on charges of staging an illegal protest last month he was

then rearrested after he'd already spent thirty days in prison for planning an unauthorized demonstration january his supporters say the kremlin is trying to sideline. to syria now where a deadline to create a demilitarized zone in northern province is fast approaching the zone is to be established by monday as part of a deal agreed to by turkey and russia last month it's meant to prevent a government assault on the rebel held area which the u.n. says would provoke a humanitarian catastrophe but there are reports that hard line fighters have yet to start withdrawing from the area. syria's last major rebel stronghold is just a few kilometers from here and uncomfortable thought for jay z. and twenty twelve he fled from islam is fighters in this town singe are in the south of italy and province now the syrian army has regained control after bitter

fighting what remains is rival sadness and anger against the islamists. how could there be reconciliation with the people who killed my relatives and forced me to flee how could i ever sit down with them that would truly be a bitter pill to swallow. since i was once home to thousands today they are just two hundred residents most of them loyal supporters of president assad no one here really believes in a political solution with the islamists they believe military force is the only language the islamists understand even if it means death and suffering. and then you might be tempted you can't trust them their alliance i don't want a political solution i hope the army takes control of the whole province such that we can have some peace there are. these men are ready for action at all times

they are part of the christian militia on the front line in southern and live they are under its control and their mission is to defend christians against islamist fighters. the islamists are supposed to withdraw by monday along with their heavy weapons at least that was part of turkey and russia's deal to created to militarized zone here but the christian militias leader says the islamists are actually reinforcing their defenses rather than withdrawing. you know we're at the holding the ceasefire that was agreed to but the islamist militants are digging trenches and building bunkers we wouldn't normally tolerate that is but our orders are not to intervene but for now things are quiet on the front line the cease fire has but some time but not trust and president assad supporters don't want to see his victories against the islamists stop at it live even if it means risking heavy casualties.

headless chickens for previous. despite the dire display of germany's tourney cross believes the team can put the defeat behind them members of either martin we have to move forward and try to take away the good things from the game we have to dust ourselves off and get ready for the next match is next to that matches against world champions france away from home germany's task to turn things around doesn't get any hard. so as he joins me now from or it's a lot to talk about here first of all of us about the dutch really deserve it win for that right i mean germany they were kind of all over the place yeah they were all over the place i mean they did have most of the ball position but that doesn't necessarily win you games and i mean they coughed up the ball too many times in the dutch made them pay for three nil for holland i mean that having been said also the dutch team is on an upswing i mean the dutch f.a. has put in a lot of money tens of millions of years in youth development and for those who saw

the game they saw some up and coming big dutch stars of the future and also you have to ask yourself about the lineup that has picked for example why would you go with the goalkeeper manuel neuer who's efficiency rate in the bundesliga right now is down to fifty eight percent and he used to be eighty percent i mean there are other better german keepers around and he is still going with no where you can live lots of questions lots of controversy now is he looking over his shoulder as his job may be even on the line now yes and no here in germany it's very difficult to kick out a hero when he is a hero because he led the german squad to the two thousand and fourteen world cup win and they're world cup title and to kick him out now would be a slap in the face to him but also to the federation itself because the federation extended his contract prior to this year's world cup as an act of confidence and i mean if if he goes then also maybe heads should roll at the german f a it's not
