state t.v. says a preliminary investigation revealed that an argument broke out between the washington post journalist and a group of men inside the consulate it claims he was accidentally strangled during a brawl saudi authorities say they've arrested eighteen people over the case of a saudi king has also sacked several top officials and called for reform of the kingdom's intelligence agency. d w correspondent dora jones is reporting for us from istanbul thanks for joining us dorian how credibly would turkish investigators view saudi arabia's new version of events i think that they will see it as a vindication of their claims of from the very beginning they insisted. she was indeed murdered at the consulate so that there will be saying yes we were right in spite of all these insistent denials from riyadh we are being proven correct now the big
11:03 am
question is will they accept this version of events that it was some kind of accident that occurred during some sort of merely the position of investigators were. anonymous sources are indicating that they believe that this was a premeditated murder attempt in fact they call the claim a fifteen member team was brought in the pacific of killing these journalists so there will be a major point of difference there and i think the of a key factor is will be thirty five with this explanation that it was rogue elements senior level officials are about the not knowledge of the crown prince mohammed bin this will be a key question and i think everyone will be looking to see how and correct so. now the obvious question why now why have saudi authorities acknowledged his killing now nearly three weeks after he vanished. well that is a question in fact there is some speculation possibly that he was preparing to release what they claim was
11:04 am
a video that actually showed the last minutes of the death of the saudi journalist that would have totally confirmed all of their or their allegations of the last week or so but i think that the probably the real explanation is that there's been this constant drip drip drip by leaks coming from this investigation which has driven the growing international outcry and the growing diplomatic pressure on riyadh i think there were those in riyadh that were hoping that this crisis eventually would start to die down the way turkey has handled this in managing this and disseminating information as in fact for this crisis has continued to escalate and it's reached the point i think where washington possibly has intervened and said riyadh you have to change will story you have to be seen to be acting. during has there been any turkish political reaction to this saudi admission yeah i mean we understand the saudi and the turkish leaders spoke late last night yeah that's right king solomon spoke at length with the turkish president. one no
11:05 am
one really knows what the nature of the conversation was but there is speculation that the king was briefing the turkish president on what they were about to do and where they would plan to take the investigation forward there have been statements saying that both sides have agreed to play to work and continue to work together the key question i think that the saudis will be looking to is will president be satisfied with this and if he is there will be question what has riyadh offered him possibly in exchange for turkey's corp there are deep rivalries between the two countries particularly urged once apparently dislike of the crown prince and his belief that he's a destabilizing force will be demanding that he be reined in or possibly ultimately replaced in the future and on top of that will be looking concessions from washington for its cooperation in many ways people see the big winner in this diplomatic crisis all right doreen jane's in istanbul thanks so much for your reporting. there are reports of several casualties off to afghanistan's capital kabul was rocked by multiple explosions polls opened across

the country today the parliamentary elections have long been delayed by deep security concerns that more than seventy thousand security forces are in place to protect the voting stations and almost nine million people are eligible to vote the fighting is ongoing in as many as twenty of the thirty four provinces the taliban had vowed to disrupt the election and on thursday a powerful police chief was killed by the taliban in kandahar province violence the head of the poll has cost at least ten candidates their lives and authorities say some stations will now extend voting into sunday because of the chaos. for more on this we're joined by alley the t.v. a freelance journalist in kabul ali thanks for joining us afghanistan's been waiting for these elections to happen for three is what chance of success is there now. the fact that we've seen so many logistical problems are all
11:07 am
over the country you know i've gotten reports from provinces literally everywhere in the country that you know there are ballot papers that election officials haven't shown up that observers are different campaign team started showing up that election centers aren't being open this is creating a lot of problems for people and it's really calling into question the democratic process you know what is the point you know because so many of these young people who are running for parliament this time were trying to talk about change and changing that the parliament that they saw as corrupt and serving only it somehow but when you can't even actually go and take the steps to cast your vote that's creating a lot of problems for people in terms of how easy democracy. now afghans are clearly risking their lives if they take the decision to go out to vote what is it that makes them take that risk. you know obviously the hope for some kind of
11:08 am
a change because about that as i was saying earlier like i talked to about five or six different candidates all fairly young candidates in the twenty day election period. and what they're all talking about is people's frustration with the current parliament saying that the current parliament is corrupt that it's a mafia network that only serves itself that you know the sweet talk you will be trying to get your vote and then once they get your rope to shut their doors so that people were hoping for people that would actually be their actual representatives who are actually take their issues to the parliament and into the central government. all right alina t.-t. a freelance journalist in kabul thanks so much for joining us today if you are let's have a look at some of the other stories making news around the world. hundreds of migrants have faced off against riot police on a bridge crossing the mexican guatemalan border some people jumped into the water

now by and munich have held an extraordinary press conference in which the club's hierarchy slammed journalists for what they see as overly harsh criticism of their players and lima her talking from david wu sports joins me for more on this and lima tell me just how bizarre and heated was this press conference it was one of the strangest things i have seen i mean it was a it was described as a train wreck it was described as a car crash it started off so in such a bizarre fashion you had the chairman spot by and chairman chairman carl heinz room a nigga who basically came out referencing the german constitution saying that human dignity is untouchable and that his players need to be respected but get this on your minutes later he himself goes on a rant criticizing one of his own players swanbourne not a left back saying that he played like crap that's why he was that go and that he basically almost nearly cost them the champions league last season and we also
11:11 am
can't forget what. it's for example by and president turnus has had about the likes of music recently saying that he's using racism as a distraction for not playing well and he once called a bonus he got to play a mentally ill i mean honestly you have to take a look at this let's take a look at some of the the bizarre comments that were made. a skit gone it's unacceptable how negative the reporting has been about our players it's outrageous and disrespectful but i was appalled and our team doesn't deserve it was that it meant to finish the d c murden future based on how good you might have a lot of fun finally seeing byron munich not on top of the table. to see and i've even heard you can but from today on we will not accept this demeaning and sneering reporting about our club factitious research to. mr beeton this.
11:12 am
certainly but what was it that prompted this outpouring of anger from the buy on hire hire ok it's the ought of distraction and hearn is it's typical her illness that's what he does when this pressure he's basically trying to take pressure off the coach and he. as well as his own pay as i mean by and right now they're not performing too well they lost at home last match stay three nil against blocked and they win this in the last four games and i think this is really i mean some and for nico call that of course to like he's on his own much press pressure and i think today against wolf's book something really has to give let's take a look at that as well. as side having one in four games in all competitions it's unclear whether the buyer bosses even told their coach they were planning to attack the media over its critical coverage of the team kovach
11:13 am
hill his press conference before buyers executives and he said he hadn't seen any negative coverage at all. i didn't read anything really i'm in a really good place i don't know what was written good or bad but i assume it was all good when all was well with his. the international break didn't bring any real chance for byron to regroup only a few players stayed in munich then kobayashi's he's not changing tactics despite poor results and it's niche we're not going to question everything and turn things around. we did some good things early and also in the last few games we just need a bit of luck you know you need to in life and in sports as well and if we have that again we'll be successful over it and it's not always. very difficult in. our of next for buyers in their run is even worse than byron's bruno lobbyist team hasn't won in five games but they still fancy their chances against by.
11:14 am
his into shock. so we're looking forward to the game just like we look forward so all our games. buyers are not is feared as they have been in recent years nico botched needs to change things fast or he could be the next one to suffer the wrath of the byron bosses. so given what's been going on how is the german media going to react if by and lose later today i think media is probably going to say i told you so we're going to have one of those told you so moment by media like look you have a problem and we're criticizing and we are criticizing factually we're not making stuff up and i think this can throw all those small talk the shape that he wants at media but i think at the end of the day this is a democratic country he cannot tell people what to say what not to say and her mr logically he can go on criticizing everyone else but when it comes to criticizing
11:15 am
his own play is it's like a double standard a completely different law applies and i think the media pap's i hope this happens at the press conference after the game a game i hope the media really comes out and also references the german constitution by saying that you know we have freedom of the press you know ok so he had a fine so much for your explanation there about slightly bizarre press thank you. all right you're watching news from berlin as well coming at the top of the hour and of course you can get more news at the. first economy like. yours grandmamma's arrives. joining a regular on her journey back to freedom. you know we're turning to documentary. running time returns home on the w. don't come to terms.
