in studio four more thanks for joining us thomas so why is state elections like this one it has of being observed so closely in germany because they are not only state elections state elections in germany are always analyzed in a much broader perspective and that means that they are also analyzed as far as the impact that they can have at the federal level for the chancellor angela merkel and for the government as a whole in this particular case obviously voters have been going to the polls in a way to react to what they think is happening at the federal level namely this infighting it is fragility in the government that's something that many voters here and also in previous elections have been voting against it's also interesting and important because it reveals a pattern that we're seeing in germany but also in other european countries namely that the traditional big parties like the conservatives or the social democrats are losing ground and those votes are going to smaller parties like the greens like the

far right of center for germany the something that we will probably see today as well in the state of so as you've said the big parties there specially america is expected to lose ground but how bad a blow is michael's future. would merkel's feature be with the defeats and has it just depends on the result if the conservative candidate for example is not the best candidate out of the six if the results for the conservatives are not that good then that would be a very big go on the other hand if they still manage to top the polls even if that means losing ground that they would have the mandate to form a regional government and they put that into a productive as a positive result so that would be one element where they could see that as a positive result what is definitely the case according to all polls that we have seen is that the conservatives another parties as well like the social democrats will lose ground when you come when we compare these elections with views election has all right so let's look at who exactly these parties are losing ground to one of those parties the far right if d.
