8:03 pm
of course the engine of the european union and that's why that meeting was so important because this was all also the first time between the two since the federal republic of germany has been founded that a german chancellor and the french president went to continue a place that was symbolic before that for hatred was symbolic for humiliation and also for revenge and if you look at that picture between i'm going to back up the german chancellor and french president there and i would like call the medical snuggles up to my call this could be the symbolic moment of this commemorative week . all right max min though a man you're mccracken is hosting some sixty metres at remembrance ceremonies this weekend what can we expect for tomorrow. there you are you can already see all the preparations going on behind me we already saw many dignitaries of course there's a huge police presence here what will you see what will we see at the octopussy off

that is also. some sort of a review of. a notice story in this is a very long story between france and germany. with these two horrible wars i mean bringing back mr han and call into this conversation these were post-war leaders they lived through a ball or two and so when when they when they talked about european unity the difference for them was really between peace and war two leaders here today france france as many mccrone and germany's angela merkel do you think that they they view it with the with the same lens. i think of course their view is a different one because they didn't they have no experience with with the war with the second world war and with all the tragedy that took place in europe and all over the world i think for a minute mark or history. is a very important topic we have seen that in the last eighteen months.

plays a role in the in the relationship of france for example with his former colonies in africa in order parts of the world and also also in the french german relationship so i think and i think that history and symbols also are very important very important also to communicate and to reach french people because also because the memory of the these wars the great war as we say in france is still today very important in in our now conscious we see that president has engaged really strongly with this anniversary hasn't he of course because the east spend mall this one week. started at the jury in the last weekend in stress burke a very important city a symbol also between france and germany with the german president.

today if there was there was disagreement in competing with uncle americal and some order more as with theories a may for example and i think that was important for him. not only because of his relationship to history because also it was a it was also an occasion to to meet french people in the time which is not which is quite difficult for him because of his lack of popularity and that that was also the goal of the memory and we started on the last weekend all right people met on french cars all correspondent for the french daily paper the thank you very much for coming for us thank. u.s. president donald trump had planned a visit to a military cemetery in france to pay respects to the american soldiers who died fighting in world war one but the white house scrapped the plans due to bad weather

we ought to our as a lost our business in a matter of seconds only thing we got our credit cards and our bank cards we had virtually nothing when we're starting over president trump is blaming california for poor forest management and he's threatened to hold back some federal aid payments right now the residents of california have more pressing concerns. all right and joining us now from los angeles is janice chasen capital and yes hi jason how dangerous on the blazes way you law they're extremely dangerous i'm about twenty miles south of the fire as you can see the smoke line behind me the fire isn't gulf mean southern california right now where it's seventy thousand acres two hundred fifty thousand people have been evacuated and the fire is chewing up drive

brush it's. totally dry and everything everything in its path is being charred resources right now for the firefighters are being warned very very thin we actually have some agencies from outside of southern california coming in to help out and and the winds have calmed a bit yesterday they were at about sixty five to seventy miles an hour right now they're at fifty to sixty miles an hour which is just pushing it towards the coast and then south towards a very densely populated area there is no relief in sight right now tomorrow morning the winds are expected to pick back up to about seventy miles an hour. jason other any signs that california firefighters are any closer to getting these bases and to control. absolutely not right now we're at zero percent containment and people are just hoping for the best this morning earlier it was very cold out so that helped a little bit but we are still it's zero percent containment and again these

resources are spread extremely extremely thin or watching houses go up in flames in seconds and there's no way to get up in these very hilly areas these very hilly terrain multimillion dollar homes going up in flames in a matter of two to three seconds and there's nothing that firefighters can do they do have some strike teams that are set up in certain areas to try and prevent homes from going up in flames but it really is kind of one of those things where mother nature needs to help out and we're not getting that relief j.c. is describing an incredibly at disturbing picture there but how a california is reacting to president donald trump essentially accusing the state government of mechanics and fire management. it really depends on who you ask if you asked certain people they say that's right you know the president is right but if you ask another certain sector of the population here in southern california they disagree with the president that the forest needs to grow the forest needs to
