afonso strongest man is a child he was bullied because of his size now he says world records. i'm max foster thanks for joining us. after two days of marathon talks between the world's most powerful leaders the latest g twenty summit wrapped up in argentina's capital on saturday night there were big fault lines over migration and climate change and fears that u.s. president donald trump might refuse to sign a final communique but in the end all the leaders agreed to it on the summit sidelines trunk and his chinese counterpart agreed to a temporary truce in the world's biggest trade dispute. it was a meeting of me saying with multilateralism taking a back seat as one on one talks dominated the summit. in particular all eyes were

on u.s. president donald trump's meeting with his chinese counterpart sieging paying their first talk since a trade war erupted between that country this year for the link in the first version of the relationship that i had with president xi and i think it is more you have very primary reason why the world probably ending up getting something that moving for china and the united states a success both in a date the latest later announced an agreement to suspend new taric for ninety days a step towards diffusing the trade will. be a different kind of war also proved a key issue in the conflict between russia and ukraine it was top of the agenda for german chancellor angela merkel's one on one with russian president vladimir putin . she called on him to release the ukrainian failures detained by russia last weekend and said she wanted to avoid any further escalation.

undirected us off to some second we proposed and it is being considered to have a meeting in the realm of the fall not before and which the normandy councils being france germany ukraine and russia spewed about the processes happening there isn't putin however said he believed only a change in the ukrainian government would bring an end to the crisis. one thing all twenty leaders disagree on the need to reform the world trade organization given current trade tensions globally a success for this summit. for the g. twenty i'm joined now by our political correspondent thomas sparrow thanks for being here that last bit we just heard about the meeting reform it's always changing shit i don't know what that means was there anything else decided actually decided at the g. twenty when you look at these big summits like the g twenty you have to look on the one hand not the big broad topics that are discussed and where they managed to come
1:04 pm
to an agreement this is why that communique was so important a lot also some of the clear differences were very evident in that communique for example when it comes to climate when it comes to trade and the other aspect which is very important with these big summits we all saw it last year here in hamburg at the g. twenty of those bilateral summits and in this particular case one of the key bilateral meetings was precisely between the u.s. president and the chinese need not tell me more about that donald trump says there has been a deal of sorts he tends to say that a lot is that the truth does tend to say that a lot in this particular case what they agreed the two leaders was the was to suspend tariffs on trade for ninety days they will start talks to have some structural changes on the trade relationship that's those are words at the white house that these structural changes if after ninety days there is no change then they would impose new tariffs china on the other hand again according to the

white house agreed to purchase goods from the united states according to the white house in order to reduce the trade imbalance so yes this is important but again it is only a deal of sorts we have to wait what happens after these ninety days when they will be talking on very key aspects of their trade wish. another by the meeting of course which we heard about was angle of merkel germany's chancellor meeting with iran. president vladimir putin to talk about ukraine they're talking about talking all together with ukraine france and germany but putin said at the g. twenty that kiev is not really a legitimate negotiating partner that it's actually the party of war so why talk well i don't expect any immediate change in that but for it is very important to try and mediate when it comes to the ukrainian russian conflict this is not a new this is what we saw in our reports when it comes to normandy for much of the world germany france ukraine and russia they have met on various occasions in the

past because both france and germany think it is very important to try again to mediate and that's precisely why they want to meet again and talk to see if they can in some way or another to deescalate the conflict we've heard that as well in the last few days from various german officials here in berlin and elsewhere if you had to compare this g. twenty to some in the past and they've been going on for ten years is this one for the history books i wouldn't say it's one for the history books but it did reveal where there are common goals where they can work together the different countries and it also revealed where there are differences two of those clear differences where will lead as we'll be trying to focus on more at least trying to build consensus as i said earlier trade on climate that's where they didn't find agreement that's where they will have to work and also you know the summits coming up in the next few yes that's what they keep talking thank you that was thomas sparrow french president emanuel call has held an emergency security meeting
