5:02 pm
five thousand people who registered to march on the private facebook group but you can definitely see that there was a determined and far larger police presence he on these shows and he's a eight thousand police deployed riot police as well and i have to say there's an awful lot of tear gas in the air right now there's been a lot of stun grenades as well sirens we understand that ninety five arrests have been made police checkpoints for everyone coming through the press included to make sure nobody was carrying any weapons largely peaceful a few scuffles but on the whole a very determined response from the protesters that were here as well as from the police whether the numbers it down because people were happy about or at least welcome some of the concessions from president a man who had michael remains to be seen it could also be that that terrorist attack which took place on chews day is weighing on people's minds as well perhaps
5:03 pm
in the coming weekends more people could be out again in larger volumes on ask about those concessions you mentioned less than a week ago president address the nation he made many promises to try to reduce people's anger in the streets do you think that worked. well perhaps it worked for some people but for those people i've spoken to here they're really not very happy about it they say they want tax breaks they want lower taxes and he's made has quite a bit of a tear gas in the i think we're going to actually have to move i've just been advised by the people here so i'm going to cut that short take as is coming in but we'll keep you updated i thank you please to go ahead and get to a safe location there thank you very much helena humphrey for us in paris. turning now to poland where marathon united nations climate talks are in overtime but

a deal of peers to be in reach delegates from nearly two hundred countries have been trying for more than two weeks to hammer out rules aimed to save the world from the worst effects of global warming but there's talk of how countries should report reduction in greenhouse emissions and how to finance the fight against climate change in poor nations a small group of countries including the u.s. russia and brazil are holding up the deal joining us now is george marshall he's the founder of climate outreach an organization that aims to improve the understanding of climate change he's back now in london after attending a conference george we know it's not unprecedented that these talks go into overtime who can we blame at this time or. we tend to have the same three factors operating again and again there are very very powerful. political and industrial interest especially in production which deliberately brought the process . we have consistently now for a generation see an abject failure of political leadership but then there's
5:05 pm
a third factor as well which is what politicians and governments can only take action with the the monday given for doing so and really i wouldn't say blame but i mean but i think we all hold responsibility for not having sufficiently demond it action from from governments and industry because i'm really feel consumes you know i think is for people to really step up and say no we insist on this at the ballot box we talk about it all friends and family in our workplace and if necessary we go out and we demoed it with protest and say we need to see it was happening george you have lots of experience speaking to people who don't believe in global warming what would you say to the countries there maybe the u.s. and russia that are holding up this deal. i think we need to recognize we're just having thousands and thousands of scientists giving us just not strong enough people to understand climate change is something which speaks. as part of their

personal national journey so for these countries we have to find a way that they see this is part of a national story that's going to be different in every country for for america it might be one of you know opportunity and growth for russia it might be one of stability and security for the middle eastern countries it might be one of rooted in this values every country needs his own story and this process really needs to get moving we need to start writing this now i think and again we need to pressure i think in these countries we need people who are demanding a. form and you mentioned pressure mentioned stories and what kind of stories should we be telling people right now this problem has become so urgent that it doesn't seem though they be quite get that. there is a danger of pools. a psychological danger of the more you tell people hey this thing what was bad is even worse when we said it was the most people retrieve so full of clips of digital so i think we have to before i mean posted ways of talking

about it there are huge changes already underway which are all very positive in the energy systems and in transportation these need to have much force and we need to make people feel about. that the energy transformation which is already underway is something positive which is going to bring all kinds of benefits for them in terms of how and equality of opportunity those stories are there but what is failing is a probably can gauge with necessary i will say i think governments really failed in their responsibility to reach out to engage and educate the public about what's happening or what needs to happen george marshall of climate outreach in london thank you very much. thank you now to some other stories making news around the world u.s. president donald trump has announced that his interior secretary ryan zinke he will step down at the end of the year think he is facing bor than a dozen investigations into his travel political activities and possible conflicts of interest trump tweeted that he'll name a replacement next week. australia has formally recognized west through some as the

a proper standing army as a necessary step towards full nationhood. this is a historic agreement for us and a deserved one. has its own army and a state that is being further consolidated and strengthened every day. for the lawmakers present in the kosovo parliament were in favor of converting the four thousand strong security force into a fully fledged army the government wasted no time in staging a ceremony to mark the historic decision. kosovo was born out of conflict twenty years ago the nato alliance intervened to protect the ethnic albanians of kosovo during their bid for independence from serbia nato has been there ever since keeping the peace between the still bitterly opposed sides in two thousand and eight kosovo formally declared independence from serbia a move belgrade and its how i rushed us to refuse to recognize many course of and

see the new army as a necessary step because it's a big step because of all but secure own state not that it is the nearest neighbors in this is enormously emotional we're happy that we're finally becoming a nation it's especially emotional for people who lost family members during the war but for the rest of us to. but ethnic serbs who are concentrated mainly in the north of course of oh see nothing to celebrate. there's not. you see today kosovo jeopardize security and peace in these parts of the country by forming a cold called me peace and security in these areas have being disregarded in the crudest manner. while the majority of kosovan sung to the united states for its support for the move to create a no me nato and the european union expressed regret on appeal to both sides to remain calm kosovo may be a step closer to full nationhood but the ethnic divide between albanians still runs
