a tsunami but harrowing nonetheless there there's debris everywhere there are cars that are flash there are motorcycles that are crushed how do those which are collapsed or partially collapsed there's just degree all over the place trees have fallen down and this is what we're trying to work and i can see you sounds like there's a lot of work which needs to go in for relief efforts how many aid workers have you been able to get in. yeah we're just starting there's a response we're not even twenty four hours into it yet it looks like we're going to be there for quite a while right now it is the government of indonesia which is leading the response and then of course agencies such as the indonesian red cross support that response at the moment they have deployed approach thirty volunteers and staff we are also sending in the fourteen water trucks the indonesian red cross has become somewhat
5:13 pm
of an expert in purifying and distributing water since the indian ocean tsunami back in two thousand and four so they're using that in their response here in centers they're whately and now in the current disaster response and then as you might expect people are going to need first aid they've been injured there's always a lot of debris which is moving around in a disaster the force of the wave even though the wave itself was less than a metre high from what we understand at this moment it still packs a punch there's a lot of power behind it and so we're hearing that people have not just cuts and scrapes but a lot of broken bones so the indonesian red cross is sending in twenty two ambulances fully trained medical volunteers and staff to be able to provide some of that first aid we mentioned at the beginning of our conversation the tearing palu obviously ground zero for the devastating tsunami back you know to where you were monitoring recovery efforts how we quipped would you see indonesia
