the eruption of an island volcano which is going through an active phase homes and beach side hotels were destroyed along the coast which is popular with tourists and dozens of people remain unaccounted for with more than a thousand feared injured. search and rescue teams digging with their bare hands looking for anyone left alive under the rubble but it's been since anyone has been discovered until saturday this was a beach resort now there are just the remains of what was once he. and boats those who survived are terrified. of and i'm i'm afraid sometimes i ask my son in law to check our house i don't know what to say i'm really afraid i have not gone home in the last two days. to indonesia it's yet another natural disaster president yoko is yet again thrust into the role
3:03 pm
of consoler in chief as he visited the disaster zone it was at pains to come anxious locals worried about the prospect of another tsunami. i advise people to remain calm but be cautious not to be provoked by misleading information i have also ordered the meteorological agency to keep informing people about the situation including the weather conditions as soon as possible this is what scientists believe likely cause saturday's tsunami and that krakatau volcano erupted under water triggering a landslide and the killer waves now authorities are warning indonesians to stay away from the disaster zone as the volcanoes eruption continues there's the risk of further disaster. so we're all going to get more from the disaster zone and going to be speaking to someone in indonesia now i

understand that your team is the most is the most affected area right now how would you describe the situation. well there's been a lot of activity today with similar accusations going on a lot of bodies recovered but they still seem to be some areas that are not being reached by all thirty particularly down to the south western tip of java island. i guess in those areas we may see this over was and what is the situation like for the survivors well it depends i mean there's quite a lot of people who are living in refugee shelters at the moment and some smaller towns we saw there was four thousand people estimated and that was just in one area so. i'm assuming that throughout the throughout the region there's
3:05 pm
a lot more combat. and the conditions in those shelters are not great they're quite cramped and the funding for things like food and things like that are just being provided by the local authorities at this stage so. yeah it's a difficult situation i think for everybody you know i know that such an rescue effort ongoing but one of the chances of survival being found at this point. i wouldn't rule it out i honestly couldn't really give you a clear answer on that but there are definitely some areas as a that haven't really been touched very much by authorities so there is there is a possibility of that happening it's only been a couple of days and you know we've we've seen some survivors being found a lot longer to that after events like this from the bottom and how would you categorize the indonesian government's reaction. to this disaster. i think that. the tsunami early warning system clearly isn't working properly but
3:06 pm
whether or not that's actually to blame here is another question entirely it definitely needs to be repaired and it would be a good thing when it is your pet not the president has pledged to do that which is great i think that in generally in general terms the indonesian government response to all natural disasters is excellent and actually so this is quite a good example for other countries to to replicate so yeah i mean they they have their fair share of natural disasters this year is a no exception to that as you probably are well aware and i think. with with with some with some reservations yes but i've been in a really good job but there's still work to be done here to get people back on track royce correspondent. joining us from indonesia thank you you. thank. now to some of the other stories making news around the

regarding the current market volatility among other things and so easily investors are wondering if there's more to be concerned about not really we're short of those points so everybody's i actually kind of wondering they want to be probably listening in on those phone calls and that's the issue right now you know i mean those phone calls just quite an unusual move in on not necessarily instilling confidence there and that's certainly when you have that back backdrop that the government shutdown which i mean we see it every year but this year is somehow different yes i mean the last one was in two thousand and thirteen and that was the one during the obama administration that when white point two percent of the g.d.p. that year so in terms of this one is very probably bad for the market because it comes at a time when the market is already volatile that wasn't the case in twenty thirteen and investors have enough to be concerned about and now they actually have this one thing to also worry about and i think that's the issue at this point is just the timing is terrible at the at a time when december is actually a great month when bester is normally but this is sort of like the worst december
3:23 pm
in years except for of course the financial crisis in two thousand and of course december isn't over just yet with the christmas season that we're coming up to new year do you think this could be resolved before the end of if you will i mean is going to be a vote on the twenty seventh of the december that's when a decision could be made and it doesn't look very likely because of course as sort of an issue with that wall. border wall with mexico and trump is not very willing to compromise on that and the mexican supposedly pay for it anyway though i mean he wants now his own government to pay for it and nobody is going to really probably come to an agreement on that one at least not until the end of the year yeah chip on that thanks so much for joining me in the studio. now jim in luxury come a b.m.w. has been fined ten million dollars by south korean authorities they say the comic it was too slow to recall vehicles affected by a faulty engine and there's more trouble ahead to b.m.w. now also faces a criminal investigation. south korea's transport ministry wants prosecutors to
