7:02 pm
a journalist with the key have post he joins us from the ukrainian capital for more on the story matthew thank you very much for joining us now this is a pretty significant day the first mass of an independent ukrainian orthodox church after more than three centuries of russian control tell us more about the lead up to the split. good evening thank you for having me this is been a very significant event and it happened actually quite quickly when you consider it discussion started around october very quickly it was it became clear that ukrainian orthodox church would receive this decree of independence that would give it independence from moscow then the two unrecognized ukrainian orthodox churches that existed in ukraine they were unrecognized meaning they were seen as schismatic or non-canonical voted to unite their neck to elect a new leader metropolitan epifanio and very soon they received almost and the most being the degree the decree of autocephaly that may not mean
7:03 pm
a lot to the average person but that is essentially the decree of independence for the church and it's extremely significant for believers of the ukrainian orthodox churches that were not subordinate to moscow because until this moment they were unrecognized there with their church was on recognized by the metropolitan of constantinople but this is also orthodox christians in ukraine has not tell us more about that. well this is a divisive issue because there are there are for first of all political aspects but there's also a very deep religious aspect a person can be very a very big hatred of ukraine while simultaneously being added to the ukrainian orthodox church of the moscow patriarchate so this is a this has divided this divides orthodox christians granted who are already in some ways divided but it has received a lot of support both from those ukrainian orthodox christians who are who are not subordinate to moscow whose churches were not support to moscow previously and also
7:04 pm
from many ukrainians who themselves are not particularly religious but who are patriotic and view this as a step towards greater independence for ukraine from moscow and it should be said also that to some degree the direction in which people move may be affected by the direction of their priests if the priests are supportive or want you to join this new ukrainian unified church then maybe they will go too but if not they will stay with the. moscow of the mosque warrior church not the only mention the mosque that was not very happy about this step tell us more about whether this will further stoke tensions in the region. well i think this will further stoke tensions that said tensions are already quite high and of course they have been since two thousand and fourteen when russia annexed crimea and supported separatists in the eastern donbass region at the same time tensions have risen most recently at the end of november russia seized three ukrainian boats that were attempting to cross into the sea of us all through the carriage straits and
7:05 pm
captured twenty four russian say are ukrainian sailors so this is already a highly tense moment and i think ukraine is concerned and is preparing for the possibility of greater tensions the ukraine the orthodox church of ukraine the newly formed one that just received recognition has warned about the potential for what it called religious provocations in some regions of the country with the idea that these provocations would be used to form a media image in the russian media an image a negative image of ukraine in the russian media so far though it's unclear what what russia's response will be it is it is suggested that this that ukraine was that the that the patriarch of constantinople gave ukraine the ukraine orthodox church independence in return for money that was said that's not true there's been accusations this is entirely politicized but so far there these are just accusations all right matthew cooper a journalist with the kiev post eking to us from the ukrainian capital thank you so much. well francis says enter the debate over migrants stranded in the

been looking into this story for us charlotte tell us what's been going on now that wasn't just any old expensive steak it was an extremely expensive steak i think you really have to take a look at the videos that really himself posted on his social media accounts of him eating steak i mean if you just take a look at it is actually covered in a gold leaf right there and it is absolutely enormous i mean how much do you think it's day by doctors i'd say around five hundred bucks is actually a little bit more than that is actually twelve hundred years that you can pay for that gold state everybody is eating at a restaurant from the famous turkish restaurant has sold he's now you know he's got a chain of restaurants where he sells states like that and rebury what did to show often and post that image online but he found that there was a lot of backlash on twitter for that video not just online on twitter but also from the french press where he's not been very popular in the past it's not just been aimed at him it was aimed at his wife his mother his child he really got quite

of abuse so what how is he responded to that criticism or he didn't take it lying down he hit back in a very big way actually he posted a couple of tweets yesterday laden with profanities expletives he called his critique. n.d.s. angry he leveled from explosives that his critics mothers and grandmothers all let your imagination. tell you what exactly he said that we can't say also but he really did. really hit back in a very very big way and what he's done essentially is turn what was it as a bit of a twit to storm into something a lot more serious now how people responded to his response well before that twitter out but he did have some support for his videos online his fans was saying hey you know what this guy and an estimated eight million euros a year he can spend his money however he wants and there were people as well who
7:13 pm
pointed out that the restaurant where he posted the video from is constantly full of celebrities in fact if you look through salt bays the restaurant has twitter account is basically a who's who of famous people i mean it was. messy and. very famous football is david beckham as well that on the left the former england player . who are now all day as well has been there is that restaurants and people are saying you know why did rebury come and come in just say much slack but off of that out. there's very hard to find anyone who's willing to defend him i have to say and by munich themselves as we said at the beginning now find him they said it's completely on except of one of the players a role model to act like that on social media have not said how much they find him but it's meant to be a huge amount one person who has sort of come out to support him as his teammate. he gave a statement earlier where he said that he is known for being emotional and emotional

throughout his career and called him a team player that's a listen it's a five years it's a funny and everyone knows who is in the wrong. but in these moments where he feels he's been treated unfairly we've been viciously attacked and sometimes he blows a fuse he can't really control himself over the movie does it that's even though there are some times where things worked out better than this time. but it's true that he does get attacked a lot also listen i do feel that their kid would. german media is not quite as patient though about this whole outburst they've called for him both sides for example the german newspapers call for him to be suspended other outlets in editorials have said he shouldn't play for by munich atoll so a lot of people very angry about this was our best story really interesting stuff there charlotte charles until thank you so much for bringing us that story. and one more item for you unusual i say formations are drawing visitors to one of the world's great salt lakes the shores of the salt lake in northern china has turned
