1:03 pm
people are still looking at what exactly happened at the time of the explosion now this comes obviously at a moment of tension as you said because yellow vests protesters are happening across paris and they're actually walking down the streets not far away from the from where this explosion happened today he said on that point of course he had a vest protests have been going on for several weeks now what is the city of paris expecting today. the government seems to expect i'm expecting a new level of violence that have deployed eighty thousand police officers across the country five thousand of them in pairs and they're really getting ready ready for new right now for this for the moment actually the demonstrations seem to be happening in a peaceful way the demonstrators themselves have come up have put up a as a security service to make sure that there are new riots really happening but apparently both sides seem to be thinking this is
1:04 pm
a crucial moment when it comes to the protests they have now been going on for nine weeks but the government will start a new so court national debate next week is hoping and hoping to calm things down and it was a don't say just demonstrators want to show that they will keep pattered and will keep protesting for the next few weeks even very briefly of course the pressure now on president michel i'm well it's growing considerably what's the government planning to do about that. well that's exactly what i meant the the grand the. big debate actually that kicking off next week is supposed to calm down the spirits but it remains to be seen if that really works because according to one recent poll seventy percent of the french actually think that they will be no use of measures coming out of this debate our correspondent lisa lewis in paris good to talk live t.v. thanks lisa. to nigeria now where at least twelve people have been killed after an overturned or oil tanker

1:08 pm
newspaper claims the probe was set off in early twenty seventeen following president trump's firing and then f.b.i. director james comey according to anonymous sources agents were told to find out if trump was knowingly or unknowingly working for the russian government the white house denies the claims. was saying in the u.s. the partial government shutdown is now entering its twenty second day making it the longest in the country's history as the rao overfunding president donald trump's southern border wall drags on as a result some eight hundred thousand workers have not been paid receiving wage that showing nothing but their race and as our washington correspondent my psuedo reports many government workers and now turning to alternative employment. renters do you've got bills and there's no sign of a paycheck coming anytime soon so maybe if you're a government worker it's time to find a second job the fairfax county school district outside of washington d.c. has a shortage of substitute teachers and fairfax county now has an excess of furloughed

government workers problem so lucian at least temporarily. twenty percent of the population in the greater d.c. area works for the federal government that's now one in five people with no paycheck and nothing to do for who knows how much longer but even with the dire predictions coming out of capitol hill this local community saw an opportunity to do something for their people. when the school distro. advertise the event build up to capacity within twenty four hours the interest was so overwhelming that they added a second and then a third hiring day well it usually takes a few weeks to be approved as a new substitute teacher these people will all be processed and ready to work in just a few days the school board says it's really the least they can do for employees here really realize that we have a community in need right now we have many displaced federal workers and as part of our caring culture this is just a small gesture to be able to be out and help and support our displaced federal
1:10 pm
workers and give opportunity to substitute in our schools and earn a paycheck we've heard lots of teachers in the classroom are actually thrilled to have this influx of talent as you know we have people in the federal government who have all sorts of skills whether they're in mathematics statistics in medicine so just bringing that into the classroom will have a big effect on our students. the shutdown could and any time many federal employees at the event said they're doing ok for now but in the meantime they want a contingency plan and the whole situation is disheartening nine hundred twenty thirteen shutdown over the affordable care act. that was a little bit different the situation there was more talking between the president and congress in the senate so this was all frustrating because there's really no no discussion or very little discussion sound. i'm frustrated. because i think.
1:11 pm
services to the citizens are being compromised there and even behind the scenes when a government is shut down people don't realize even when you. we have served in national parks we observe the museums we never know what unobservable things are not getting done i don't know right now it's looks like it's at a standstill so i don't know if i'm not get a great vibe but you know hoping and praying and before it's up on a come through the region it's unclear where the federal government is stuck in the mud and its employees are moving on and this local government is stepping up to help. them well days of heavy snow have brought chaos to parts of europe there's no sign that the situation will improve anytime soon more than twenty people have now died in some of the heaviest snowfall in two decades and forecast as a warning that up to me to more could be on its way on the n.s.a. it is in one of the worst affected areas in austria where fresh avalanche warnings were issued overnight

a part time job just to keep the streets and the roofs clear we talk to two men who are working on a roof that said that they said it took them two days working around the clock just to keep half of the roof clear now for some the real danger is actually the possibility of an avalanche on a mountain nearby there's a pocket of snow sitting up there and if it were to trigger it would travel down a narrow channel and in this channel their houses now those people have been evacuated some are staying in this village but in other villages the towns are completely cut off from the outside world they're living off the resources they have there early in the week there was two thousand two hundred people in some of these trapped villages but the austrian military is on top of it they now report there's one thousand five hundred people and some of these trapped villages the snow is still coming down another meter is forecast it's no one knows when this is going to stop but it seems that austria is taking it in stride and keeping on top of it. no report on n.s.a. of that now just
