announcement federal employees across the country have been waiting for and not just them. thank you very much my fellow americans i am very proud to announce today that we have reached a deal to end the shutdown and reopen the federal government trump agreed to temporarily reopen the government until mid february even without having received the funding for his key request a wall on the border to mexico. his retreat came after intensifying delays at some of the nation's biggest airports and another missed pay day for hundreds of thousands of federal workers the american people do not like it when you throw a wrench into the into the lives of government workers over an unrelated political dispute working people throughout america empathize. with the federal workers and were aghast at what the president was doing to them since the beginning of the

shutdown the president's approval rating has hit an all time low he was increasingly accused of being out of touch with the ordinary people. but despite all criticism trump has not given up on the border wall just yet republican and democrat lawmakers will now negotiate in order to find a mutually agreeable solution for border security and trump already made clear should he not be satisfied with the outcome the shutdown could continue. and that from the german council on foreign relations join me in the studio earlier and i asked him if this is a clear defeat for president trump. absolutely the democrats can claim for victory here there are no negotiations about the war before the end the shutdown so i think it is a very big success for the democrats and especially for nancy pelosi now this is
1:04 pm
a temporary measure this is funding for only three weeks but what happens then i mean there's been a huge cost to the country during this the shutdown what happens after these three weeks where the negotiations would be even tougher because the atmosphere would change even more. even though people will get paid now or will. be compensated for the time. of the shutdown and a lot of people who are dependent on this money which are not directly working for the government so all the services the people who provide. goods and services to the government we're not to be paid so you have hardening off the atmosphere and the issues if the democrats are willing to include the budget for the wall will still be on the negotiation table so i expect another crisis on the

horizontal because trump has to deliver to his electorate and he we're not back down even though his situation has now fundamentally changed he even looks wimpy to some office. supporters and this is something which you know the insight and moved the debate and most possibly another crisis so as you say in even the hardening of of the atmosphere and of course his standing he does not like to lose what is this going to do how will this affect affect trump's support specifically amongst his base where he still has to deliver and the base still expects him. to come up with an idea up with a plan to build the wall and it's interesting because yesterday when he announced the temporary. end of the shutdown he didn't talk about the fact that he wanted

mexico to pay for the war which is very interesting because this is something he promised to the people who voted for him and you know seeing him doing this. some of the elements of what he promised his electorate to do and they have very closely observing what the president can and cannot so it's it is a very tricky situation and the government shutdown is extremely unpopular. that was nicole then but from the german council on foreign relations who was speaking to me earlier. now at least nine people have died off to a dam collapse as an iron ore mine in the brazilian state of maine ashtar ice that's in the country's southwest firefighters have saved more than two hundred workers but around the same number still missing the dams collapse unleashed a massive and deadly month. it's a race against time for these rescuers. a torrent of

still have the military leadership behind him is there any indication at all that he is ready to back down that he would consider fresh elections it's not a surprise that he has a military leadership behind him all of the question will be next week how is the bigger the bigger part of the military acting when there are once again protests like this for the moment no sign that he will step the honorable step back no sign at all a case of why don't he's calling for a major demonstration next week what do you think will happen how is this power struggle going to unfold well we have seen in internationalization all this conflict so that's also what we are going to see in the united in the united nations security council today all the different positions of bugaboos has been happening. in one as well. though has announced some kind of road to transitions so

he says the user has to step back and we have to create a transitional government and then there must be free and fair election then of course human intake eight also for the people in the country so that's what he is proposing we have to see next week really people are joining the streets because that's his only power he has or other powerless us policies arguments powerful arguments but he has no real power up to now ok talking about washington washington has said that it will divert oil revenues to one by doe is that a credible threat how much damage would something like that do to the jury that's quite a difficult question because we all know that president trump and some of the people who are now are talking about democracy and when is well enough the best of friends of democracy for all we know them also the new special in charge of foreign as well and now is known as a hawk for a lot of time so but it's
