on the horizon reports suggest that some one hundred fifty banks in the country are on the brink of collapse lack of capital is a major problem from what i bonkers from three groups the central bank maintain strict oversight of the small and medium sized financial institutions but it's more lenient towards the big banks they adopt the principle of too big to fail. if they bring sort of big before. the central bank traditionally intervenes to prevent the demise of major banks smaller privately owned financial institutions are more likely to lose their licenses if they are too low on cash. this system of regulation and supervision aims to promote competition strict oversight encourages competition. or. it's pretty even. the reality on the ground however is that state owned banks are increasingly lending to state owned companies the effect of all this is to dampen economic

growth western sanctions which make it hard for russian banks to access international markets have compounded the problem. the reality is that we're in the midst of a recession it's not western sanctions that are the cause they simply make the situation worse. particularly the country's increasingly shaky financial institutions are causing people to lose faith in the system a recent survey suggests that one in three russians believe they're best off not parking their money in the bank. for more on this let's bring in correspondent erin tilton in moscow erin we heard about the ailing russian banks there how big of a problem is this. well here it's actually hard to come by official numbers but media reports indicate that some one hundred fifty different banks may be facing insolvency in the near future and the central bank has stated

regarding this time and time again that russia has too many banks but at the same time that it needs to see more competition to actually encourage economic growth but that really is kind of the crux of the issue many observers here complain that the central bank is doling out help to these alien banks for political reasons and not necessarily based on free market principles the result is that many of the banks that actually small and medium enterprises depend on to keep their lights on and keep their doors open aren't actually getting the support they need the result is that is that many of these smaller companies especially outside of moscow st petersburg or the other major reasons aren't having the access to the to the capital markets that they need to survive and their president putin will be delivering his annual state of the nation address later today the russian economy has really been under pressure wages have been dropping and people have been forced to tighten their belts how will mr putin address these issues. well he's really expected to focus on the economy when he speaks to the nation in just a couple minutes time you have to remember the deal putin struck with the russian

people eighteen years ago and he was soon power was if you give me almost absolute canonic are actually political power i will give you a prosperous economy and that was really true the first couple of years of his of his presidency however the economy has stagnated in the recent years i mean it still heavily depended upon the oil price and we know that has tanked in recent years and real loans have been drop or real wages rather have been dropping here they're down one point five percent over the last four years and a series of very unpopular pension reforms have brought out people into the streets we've seen the most serious demonstrations against putin's power since two thousand and twelve and this is really because of the alien a calm. i mean many russians here on the ground feel that they're the ones who are paying for the stagnant economy so it's really on putin to prove that he has the ability to bring back that prosperity of the early two thousand you know be a correspondent our until the reporting from moscow ahead of president putin's annual state of the nation address aaron think it's a much. u.s. and chinese negotiators have come together in washington during their talks on

agreement that's mutually beneficial and when when i think it's in line with the interests of china and the united states and is also what the international community expects on thursday u.s. trade representative robert light hisor is to lead a fresh round of talks with china's vice premier you say in washington this week's talks in the u.s. capital follow a round of negotiations that ended in beijing last week without a deal. well japan's exports have seen their biggest drop in more than two years as the years trying to trade war put the brakes on demand for japanese authorities cars and heavy equipment and generally japan exported goods worth about fifty billion dollars that's almost nine percent less than the previous year and a steeper decline than economists had anticipated on the whole the data paints a picture of an export oriented economy that's shifting down to a lower pace of growth as uncertainty about trade frictions we can. demand.

i really like donald trump so i want to have his hairstyle. but if the trump look is not snappy enough for you there's always that handsome devil from pyongyang to copy especially if there's already a resemblance. many people say that i look like kim jong un and this hairstyle just makes it more obvious. the supreme leader looks just about done and the u.s. president is getting the finishing touches the famous ducktail and then of little bit of jail to make it all sit just right there hairstylist says he's doing his part for world peace. hanoi is a city of peace when donald trump and kim jong un decided to come here to talk about restoring peace and i think i should do something to show that people here welcome the summit.
