there's news africa coming up in the next fifteen minutes. kenya is tightening its security to prevent another attack. but how exactly is a doing that will be speaking to kenya's cabinet secretary for foreign affairs. also coming out. nigeria's. young in lagos who is hungry for success. and which restaurant has just been named the best in the west. on the show. my kids you know welcome to the show's always good to have you here we start off in kenya where. in retaliation to kenya's involvement
6:03 am
in somalia may just security concern the group has been responsible for a series of deadly on kenyan soil the latest just over four weeks ago so twenty one people killed in the. complex in nairobi another major worry for kenya's authorities is a refugee camp on the kenyan somali border the world's largest refugee camp is home to over three hundred thousand somalis kenya considers the effects are recruiting ground for al shabaab militants and try to close. prevent the shutdown. joining me now is kenya's cabinet secretary for foreign affairs money she also previously served in the ministry of defense many thanks for joining us let's get to the question straight away what are the measures being put in place to prevent another attack from happening well. almost four
6:04 am
years since the last major attack and the reason for that. piece is because we have done a lot of things to improve our competencies for prevention for detection and for ensuring that we do not get to talk so we will continue to build competencies to ensure that we exchange information we are working on. areas in the city financial flows of money because we know that is the way that terrorism is financed and facilitated. and hansing our into agency corporation between our security forces and also in listing the citizens so that we can have information from the citizens on any suspicious activity or persons so we continue to improve on our capacities to prevent any attack the border with somalia is a key point of entry for besser valley based extremist group al-shabaab how exactly
6:05 am
is going to be managed over there. well we started in the last two and a half years to build a comprehensive border security system which includes amongst other things more surveillance it includes deploying a border command that is in place now it includes creating joint border commission with somalia it includes also building their capacity for revenue collection in the border so that we can check contraband you can check in the city flow of goods and services and people and we are also working with the u.n. to make sure that their management of refugee camps is also in line with the humanitarian correct of these camps and that they are not appropriated by terrorist agents to plan or execute attacks against kenya exactly and now that you talk about comes just close to the border is that the world's largest a refugee camp. talking about that that doubt the government wanted to shut it down
6:06 am
but what's the state now because clearly according to international laws the government cannot shut it down so what's the way forward that. well the return is one of the durable solutions for if you do situations and voluntary petitions started a couple of years back ideas still been going on you know that swath of territory in somalia that i've been freed from and so we expect that your precious want to continue we also expect that in light of the principal bad and cheery other members of the international community to also take some refugees as part of the third country resettlement what about a kenyan troops in somalia i mean this is twenty eleven what's the story there. while the kenyan troops are part of army someone does you know i mean some is a united nations security council mandated operation so it's not about kenyan
6:07 am
troops it's about the responsibility to pursue and bring international peace and security so we are part of that effort and remain one of the t.c.c. countries so how successful would you see the mission has been so far with the kenyan troops in somalia. i think without a misnomer would not be took you know when we somalia today's the success of army some is what has enabled the federal government to stay in mogadishu and we've been calling on the international partners to continue providing this support so that we can help turn around somalia in terms of its capabilities to provide peace and security for itself but also to secure the borders with its neighbors thank you very much money john mccain his cabinet secretary for foreign affairs thank you for your time. thank you thank you let's talk sports now for many young footballers across. africa that. is
