take part sheriff on info migrants dot. this is detail good news live from pressure on venezuela's president nicolas maduro u.s. vice president bike paths meets opposition leader. to the american leaders to decide how to get the door out of office the meeting follows a weekend of violence disputes loyalty but there are a lot of attempts to bring humanitarian aid into fighters from also on the program i don't believe the europeans give the first joint summit a high on the agenda the talks in egypt terrorism under migration. and i do surprises me
5:01 pm
a walk. and the prosecutor can use to. clean the. wrong about race relations for best picture purpose of the cold winds for best actress in the fight. i'm sure welcome to the program. but as well as opposition leader who is meeting the leaders of the lima group of mostly latin american countries and the colombian capital bachata us vice president of my parents has arrived here with mr white there on the left and colombia's foreign minister at a news conference washington has become one of quieter keep back as the standoff with president of dora four people killed hundreds wounded along the country's border at the weekend and over security forces blocked out of supporters attempts
5:02 pm
to bring international aid into the country. from data because violent behavior i gave this season the colombian city of kuta on the border with welcome have it what can we expect from this emergency conference in bogota. well phil what we are likely to expect is to see the minister on a position trying to step up their efforts and to get a more aggressive tone by of this group of countries the so-called lima group and we've heard the representative of one way bill to the lima group say that he wants to leave all options on the table all options open and that that might include the use of force now of course that raises the question what does he mean by that and does he contemplate the possibility of military intervention something that no leader of colombia the united states or one day to himself has actually discarded as a possibility trying to reach that today in this conference is going to be difficult
5:03 pm
because we have countries like mexico who don't recognize one way to go as interim president of venezuela yet or countries like peru or kosar rica or even the european union that have already said even before this conference began that they are in favor of a peaceful solution for venezuela that of course would exclude military intervention ok so what of the this is a man who has declared himself an interim president tried to bring this aid in vibe volunteers over the weekend and has that's now been turned back does he have a plan b. well from what we've seen so far they didn't really have a plan b. they probably didn't count on venezuela very strict and very aggressive reaction to people entering their border let's not forget that most of the volunteers that want to bring the aid into venezuela where simply venezuelans it was not necessarily military personnel or police forces not even members of u.s.
5:04 pm
aid they were going as well and citizens that were simply trying to get into their country with this aid that was planned aid but we don't have a plan b. we haven't seen it from living as well in a position and that by the way is very typical of the organization of the men as well in a position that has been widely criticized for having very idealistic naive plans if you will many times and then don't have a possibility to somehow reach their most basic goals it is hard to imagine how they want to tear down and bring down the nikolaus my little government if they cannot simply bring a few aid packages into their border so the situation is very difficult and that is why they want more international pressure and looking for that pressure today. we've just been seeing pictures of the weekend's violent confrontations you're there on the border in. just when we started i had music going on what is the situation on the board now. well yeah that was a very typical situation for a latin american city and as you can see it has
5:05 pm
a very normal monday going on right now but we are not directly at the bridge where this incident happened during the weekend and it's important not to forget that there's two groups of very desperate people here at the border first venezuelans who came here to bring the aid that cannot we enter their country cannot join their families and cannot bring basic goods and medicines to their family members they are desperate and the other desperate groups are the vendors who are depend on the sales of products to the venezuelan citizens that have been going on for months the situation is critical and even though police officers and the military is keeping the border shut down and safe so far we don't know if we will see revolts during this week by people who are simply desperate to make a living and to see their families feel. this in kolkata colombia on the border with venezuela thank you. and president doris closure of the border is also causing hardship on the colombian sides traders in the market times used to rely on us
5:06 pm
weapons coming across the border to buy their goods but no longer. put out a market at the colombian venezuelan border it's where venezuelans go to purchase basic goods from colombia the closure of the border is bad for business on a regular sunday safina motto which sells ninety five kilos of potatoes today she only sold five made me and well they were all still the produce from wednesday and we don't know if we can invest again gavin maybe if they open the border. but they say it will stay closed that we're wondering where to go now to help our struggling families in venezuela it's really tough if the border remains closed she will lose everything. and not get in america i guess i'm we've already lost a lot of our projects. look how many tomatoes we have left they only last two days or a day with this son we have to work like this on the son damages the peppers the potatoes
5:07 pm
the carrots. carlos says to put out a market is the only option for thousands of venezuelans though if they close the border for two days we suffer though you know why because our customers they are not from colombia they don't come for couteau or pump work or own our ghosts or murders are the venezuelan people there barbara not going to now go back to another market trader list kano was wounded in the weekend clashes at the border. they said ok we live on the border and because of his clothes that there are no sales no customers but it affects us a lot of time which. nobody knows when the border will reopen meaning more hardship for traders and their customers on the other side. let's take a look now at some of the other stories making news around the world british prime minister to resubmit has dismissed a call by european union leaders to extend article fifty in order to. never deal

abdel fattah el-sisi himself is facing growing criticism of his country's crushing human rights record highlights the fact that europe is currently at least as focused on securing stability as criticizing potential partners in conflicts like syria yemen or libya. arab leaders have made clear their views on the most pressing issues that includes first and foremost the palestinian question how to tackle terrorism and the absolute necessity in finding political solutions to regional crises and as the arab league openly discusses the return of assyria and sat into its circle of leaders with no questions asked german chancellor angela merkel called on arab leaders to initiate political change in syria referring to germany's commitments to a region with few democracies she had this to say. when committing to

to crouch to refrain from violence as a member of the congregation to twenty five year old is grateful that things here remain peaceful unlike in other parts of nigeria. during service it's irrelevant who has voted for whom it's after church when the discussion moves beyond. the more than fourteen million you want to read just this time around compared to twenty fifteen and many of them have voted for the very first time they want to bring about change young people young thirty years old like you danielle you're one of the people who voted for the first time what kind of change and see change policies that affect us as youths and young people are

5:15 pm
it used to hold open hostility to western culture an influence has been isolated and an international pariah. but since nine hundred eighty six vietnam has taken a different path with reforms that have opened it up to foreign business in a remarkable turnaround it's gone from a basket case to one of asia's fastest growing economies perhaps vietnam style change could be a good fit for north korea. vietnam starting point before the reform is similar to north korea's now. there are many things that had to be changed fundamentally. when you switch from a centralized economy to a market economy the important thing is to have a broad and far vision and reform for really completely. vietnam's reforms have seen as per capita incomes soar almost five fold but hanoi
5:16 pm
hasn't traded prosperity for democracy here the communist party remains firmly in power keeping a tight lid on free speech and political dissent. but not without social transformation the sight of skateboarders in front of lenin statue in hanoi would have been unthinkable not long ago. compare that to today's pyongyang where public life is carefully controlled and north korean leaders are still revered as d.d.'s. vietnam has rebuilt ties with its former fellow the united states perhaps a role model for north korea to normalize a troubled relationship. watching d.w. news live from still to come. goals of the big ones as they clash between. stay tuned to find out and came out on top. the head of the

annual ceremony in los angeles had plenty of surprises best picture one of them that went to the green book a feel good film back to race relations britain's olivia colman took best actress for her role and the favorites at this year's ceremony seem to have got the memo about diversity. british rock legends queen the ceremony inside hollywood's dalby theatre off to a rousing start fronted by american idol star adam lambert. the band stayed in the spotlight as ronnie malik picked up best actor for his portrayal of freddie mercury in the queen biopic bohemian rhapsody. this and we made a film about a gay man an immigrant who. lived his life just unapologetically himself and the fact that i'm celebrating him and this story with you tonight is
5:18 pm
is proof there were longing for for stories like this olivia colman i named best actress for her role as queen and in the costume drama the favorite olivia colman said no one was more surprised than her. this is the loneliest. i. but the night's biggest surprise was arguably the pick for best picture and ask her to. preen but i. can't buy many critics as racially tone deaf green book story covers controversial ground but its director said it was an important one to tell. this is he's right this is the whole story is about love it's about loving each other and despite our differences and finding out the truth about. who we are were the same people. best
5:19 pm
director went to mexican filmmaker alfonso cuarón for his study autobiographical film roma a movie that highlights the plight of poorly paid to mystic workers. i want to thank the company for recognizing a film center around i mean the u.s. woman. one of the seventeen million the mystic workers in the world we don't works we don't work right. also when the oscars for foreign language film and cinematography. get more from b.w. amazing film review you'd be amazing scott rocks are welcome scott that's out of control this is not only about the lack of a host but also about best film yeah i mean green book one best film a lot of people had expected i didn't really but the thing about this film is on the surface it looks like your classic oscar film it's a social issue race relations in the one nine hundred sixty s. but really this film for me is it seems like a throwback it seems seems almost like driving miss daisy in reverse in this case
5:20 pm
you've got a story it's a white racist played by viggo mortensen becomes a chauffeur to a successful black musician and they go on a road trip through the segregated south the one nine hundred sixty s. fine but the story it's a book about race relations it's about a period of segregation america but they decide to tell it from the perspective of the white racist is that ok he's this his perspective is what we need his story is what we need to tell and that seems to me really tone deaf given you know what's happened in the last even the last couple of years but definitely last ten fifteen twenty years. i think having really missed a trick here because instead of trying to tell the same old stories again and again they could have looked to a film like robot which is a completely different perspective story of a domestic servant and to just a nest experiment in mexico in the one nine hundred seventy s. and we see her story of her perspective on on that history completely different story something we haven't seen before i think they really missed
5:21 pm
a trick by not giving best film instead of as i say the throwback green book when. spike lee was seen to storm out let's let's talk about let's hear him talk about diversity now. it's a pouring hash tag us so why and the former president of the county or most of the sciences sure when i six i wouldn't be here tonight they open up the cademy to make the camera look more like america's more diverse. so things have moved. a bit so where is the where are the oscars now in terms of diversity yeah i think i mean spike lee complained a bit about green book winning you said the ref got the wrong did that made the wrong call which i thought was a nice. quote but definitely things have moved on especially even just a few years ago with oscar so white two thousand and fifteen when the have you tried become more diverse and tried to push diversity and in terms of nominations this year i mean you had spike lee's black klansman but you also had
5:22 pm
a film like black panther i'm not entirely black cast in that it picked up seven nominations won three oscars or if beale street to talk another. entirely by a very jenkins which also won an oscar in terms of nominations and representation of this is probably the most diverse oscars of all time but of course you know there's still some way to go as i say if you look at the best film winner green book that's a film that could've you know won the oscar back when spike lee was robbed for do the right thing you know thirty years ago they've come a ways but you know there's still some ways to go i what about the ceremony itself it's seems to have declined in popularity is it sort of is out of touch now i don't know three and a half hours i watch this every every year i can't ever early in the morning i love you man i mean the oscars when that started i think it was a completely different time we were used to seeing stars except maybe in the cinema
5:23 pm
we used to seeing their personalized seeing stars for three hours in a theater was exciting it was amazing how look at these all these amazing things people nowadays i mean you can follow them on instagram you can see what they're doing where they're having breakfast. three hours of these people is just not entertaining anymore i think the oscars really has to change radically they have to get shorter maybe just focus on the four or five top categories make it a quick hour and a half ceremony then i'll be and then maybe people start watching again as it is it's just far too much. maybe next year they'll just send out a tweet. thank you so much for. this league of football and for that much on sunday league leaders dortmund haven't won a game since january with music in munich closing the gap year when we're due. and they got there in the end after a canter. it's been seven long years since dortmund last won the league and they're threatening to buckle under the weight of expectation the teacher ring table
