i'm melissa chana thank you for joining the program great to have you with us it is the biggest flare up between the two nuclear powers in almost fifty years over night indian fighter jets crossed into pakistani airspace believed to be the first time that's happened since the two sides fought a war in one thousand nine hundred seventy one over the kashmir border region both countries co it minister parts of it disputed since the end of the british empire india claims the strikes killed hundreds of militants pakistan says there were no casualties tensions have been rising since a militant bomb attack on a bus killed forty indian troops in kashmir earlier this month india blamed pakistan for the bombing of the pakistani government said it had nothing to do with the attack and issued a warning against india on television. you know what any bad as even think about

the fact they get the good they can harm my country we are the people. who are picked up by our armed forces and we convene know how to protect our nation we don't have any bad intention to any other country. if we have to defend ourselves. and thank you. our correspondent in new delhi soni sally current spoke with professor happy among jacob a specialist in india's foreign policy she began by asking him how significant today's strikes in pakistani kashmir. if it indeed has been carried out be indeed a broken sum of money is not this is probably the first time since nine hundred seventy one that india has gone into me not but it's not this is pretty bad thank you maybe in many ways. clearly this clearly so well. to know it's. the twenty sixth it's what you can strike the criticism because specter was clearly

punitive in nature in me at the ministry of external affairs for this morning strike to. be emptied but i don't necessarily believe he is so by by sort of calling it preemptive sort of going one notch high you and by getting this hour in that may not but it's not you've got you've gone one step one more step for the thing you're looking out. and then proceed to get ready to strike against not just on this morning by so i think of this for the more but it's all what doesn't he want to eat because it's so peaceful india but the southerners i think rick. and easy to get elected saying this is never going to happen for the first time since nine hundred seventy one what do you think the potential for me is to me. to be happy in a minute to leave. you know this just actually not as focused on that you know sort

of problem just trying to the situation to your bucket sunbelt indeed. i disposed of the indians are prepared to have their house there and boy born so great it systems in place to have this strike aircraft to have better systems in place so the indian cities don't have the push to maneuver i do on dates they already prepared for it on the strike by the markets i. doubt it would be because people to focus on the side but even in. does nor the bar strike by could be against all for all says david stripey and it's about money it's going to be a problem mark it's not indeed lydia i always want to be the soul of the video is going to focus on the real problems with where i was so far there has been a sense of that even dear god he's all to strike if you've spotted something you gators on the back say you appear to me to a sort of form for bear some out and you never know you but there's a horse like bart that gets bored more importantly how this all played many greens short parker said everybody really pedia sort of might so i think. be

a bit would be a temptation in pakistan he's going to have time to read. that was happy man jayco speaking to sonia found the car now kim jong un has arrived in vietnam ahead of the second summit between north korea and the united states the challenge for the two sides will be to come up with tangible results this time many considered the first summit in singapore nothing more than a photo op for one trump and kim will need to agree on what denuclearization actually means on this they have been talking past each other with the north offering to dismantle one nuclear complex but the american saying that is not enough there's now also the possibility that trump and kim might issue a joint declaration to end the korean war no peace treaty was ever signed after fighting ended in one thousand fifty three and heavily armed soldiers still patrol the border separating the north and south all parties involved in the conflict
3:36 pm
would have to agree to peace south korea's president in has said he supports the move it would pave the way for the north to give up its nuclear weapons. each of you two hundred or more in. the fashion u.s. north korea summit was an achievement which will be a milestone in world history. you're just this second summit will go one step farther you could launch your hubby on i expect it to be a charming point that advances complete denuclearization of the korean peninsula new u.s. north korea relations and a peaceful regime on the korean peninsula. it's not just south korea's leaders who will be paying close attention to events and hanoi here's what people in seoul had to say about the upcoming summit. if the regime completely dismantled its nuclear weapons program i would hope for unification but if there is
3:37 pm
a hidden agenda and we go ahead without exposing it then i'm against it the would only go on after the korean war happens again or third north and south will turn into a sea of fire and we will all die. i had a bad image of north korea when i was young but recently that has changed. joining me now is professor stephan haggard a korea expert at the university of california at san diego seven tell us what role south korea has in any of this. actually a quite big role president moon has been keyed in getting us to where we are with the so called the limp big gamble getting the north koreans to come to the winter olympics and that's set in train the summit's now after this the south koreans also want to play a role in trying to integrate the two koreas as part of the larger peace deal.
3:38 pm
and they're also talks that trump and kim might actually declare an end to the war if they do so does that mean at peace between the north and south as well or what process do they have to do with the soul well there are some there are some technical details about which parties would actually be a signatory to such a declaration the signatories to the armistice include the military forces of china the u.n. command and north korea actually not south korea but obviously south korea would have to be a party to such a declaration but the i that's really an aspirational document if they sign something like that because the actual peace treaty that would end the war and replace the armistice would take some time to negotiate how long would that take and also the south korean president has certainly weighed in and said that he believes a declaration would help pave the way for kim to get rid of this news do you
3:39 pm
believe that. it's one small bit i don't think it's the most consequential thing the north koreans are really looking in the end for sanctions relief but this could be a goodwill gesture it's possible they would sign something like that but again a legal document that would actually replace the armistice is months if not years away an american president isn't going to sign a peace treaty with the north koreans while they still have a significant nuclear capability. now when trump started his presidency outgoing president barack obama had said that north korea was the biggest geo political problem facing the united states that was two years ago are we in a safer place today. well i'm supportive of the summit process obviously trump it's been somewhat destabilizing with respect to us all on its relations in that region but he didn't take this risk of trying to open a channel of communication and as far as i can see we're better off than we were at

the end of the obama administration when basically nothing was happening on the diplomatic front professor stephan haggard thank you my pleasure now india's capital new delhi is home to twenty nine million people and as the city continues to grow so to its rubbish problem but a group of artists has found an interesting way of dealing with the city's nouns of waste they've built a theme park that turns trash to treasure have a look at the newly opened waste to wonder park. the eiffel talent is looking a little rusty so to the statue of liberty the egyptian pyramids the coliseum and the taj mahal. that's a nice surprise these versions of the seven wonders of the world have been constructed from waste material the city of new delhi had truckloads of old pipes

car parts and disused machines delivered to artists that when the conversion started. we need to use what we have and we were fakes we are going to do this only if it is going to be lonely there are not going to be anything else so yeah cause they will make bread or die welding mending sculpting that work has now been completed those involved are hoping the so-called waste two hundred parts will become a major tourist attraction it has certainly transformed the landscape when we started working here we started digging up the floor and we realized it was a landfill site and that's where the horror started you know you're in the middle of monsoons this is august last year and we're digging it up and everywhere there's just plastic. the theme park is a statement against consumerism food for thought for visitors and it's a place for some to live out their dreams like this
