prime minister petro sanchez and the conservative party to popular or popular party spain have long been seen as a country resistant to nationalism with no real swing to extremes since the fall of francisco franco as military dictatorship in the one nine hundred seventy s. . now the far right vox party like sent to enter parliament for the first time they have been basted by some voters discontent with the traditional parties but not all. that i don't want a far right i think i voted for the lesser of two evils i'm not really convinced as they will then. there are those that could be the first time that the far right enters the government it seems they'll get in so it will depend on which alliances are struck give us give us so this could be quite a serious change for spain. you know about if by then the

a very divisive very very tense election campaign indeed and that these elections are really important for the future of this country now as in many countries and many european countries spain is seeing a resurgence of the far right what is driving that. well the main issue that has helped the far right vox party a rise in the polls is the issue of catalonian independence they have been critical in criticizing the socialist government under petro sunshines that was in place since last summer for actually being supported by a catalan independence in the separatist party and then they were using that wave of nationalist fervor really to push for other values very conservative values there against abortion there kens what they call the so-called gender ideology anything that would give women for the rights now you have to remember that these

more about this i'm joined by d.w. reporter arrant hilton. tell us is this a problem that the german government needs to be taken very seriously well i definitely would see it would i mean look at half the stories we've brought to our audience today in the show have really been covering the same topic hate crimes perpetrated by people usually young men around the age of thirty like a lot as you were mentioning right there. who then use social media to both become more extreme in their views and also than organized their crimes you know some of these attacks we've been seeing again again in the last weeks so how is this rebel radicalization different to previous right wing extremism we have to realize you know back in the eighty's and ninety's was really the case that a lot of these radical groups were actually large organizations was much easier at least here in germany for intelligent. officials to monitor them because the the groups the organizational structures are so clear now the real problem is that many of these groups are organizing in so-called little lone wolf cells there's individuals coming together online becoming more radical and then using those online groups to get the training that they need to plan and carry out many of the

attacks were seen as a very very different category of violence that we're seeing now also the report was complaining about the fact that previously it took years before many people became radicalized and then carried out these attacks now that timeframe is becoming much much smaller only a couple years or in some cases as little as a couple months or so so what can be done what can the governments do what can tech companies to well it really seems that they're no easy answers in this category you know in the last several years we've seen tech companies and also governments take action against the islamic state because they're using similar tactics online as you propaganda videos in order to radicalize people and get them to carry out attacks and companies were able to develop passion technology which kind of forms a digital fingerprint of these videos which makes it much easier to track and remove them when it comes to a lot of these hate propaganda or seen an extreme right propaganda it's a bit more insidious because often it's couched in these means or in a humorous jokes that always give the user the ability to say you know look i

didn't actually mean it was just a joke i don't take this really that seriously but unfortunately that type of propaganda is kind of opening the door for more radicalization and that's what we're seeing here in germany and around the world. ever more difficult to track and . obviously being taken very seriously by the government. now that it is very much so all right ok. thanks so much and off. a reminder of the top story that we're following for you today. facing is underway in spain's general election and looks set to transform the country's political landscape the campaign has been marked by a surge in support a smaller policy is especially the far right. thing to get you can always get need of new news on the go to just download from google play from the app store will get you access to all the latest news from around the world as well as push
