5:00 pm
but you know. this is d.w. newsline from but i learned iran announces its partial withdrawal from the landmark twenty fifteen nuclear deal president haasan rouhani sex attack iran will stop acting on some of its commitments and sets a sixty day deadline for new terms to be a green move comes amid mounting tensions with the united states also on the program the christian woman at the center of a class from iraq in pakistan begins
5:01 pm
a new life in safety last year b.b.'s reports of the arrived in canada and i shall be united with the tools of. britain's prince harry and his wife for magen present youthful son to the public it's a big day for the little long ass it also ricci's great grandmother the queen for the first time. i feel gail welcome to the program. iran says it's planning to stop complying with parts of the landmark nuclear deal struck with world powers and twenty fifth the president has under honeys announcement comes actually a year after the united states with unilaterally from the. deal was designed to limit iran's ability to produce nuclear fuel in exchange for belief from sanctions president rouhani narcissus country will resume enriching and stockpiling uranium
5:02 pm
in sixty days if world powers fail to negotiate terms. of them and will be doing and must our nation should know that we have not withdrawn from the nuclear deal we should not think that the nuclear deal does not exist anymore. the nuclear deal is still in place but today we will flip and show the other side of the coin the nuclear deal has told us in its articles twenty six and thirty six that if the other party violates it we can also reduce our commitments at any level today we announced a reduction not a withdrawal. now total yet let's get more on this from tab attire is a political analyst specializing in iranian affairs a welcome to day doubly so what does iran want. i guess the situation that we have right now is that iran is emphasizing the fact that it has
5:03 pm
no dividend from this agreement while itself is committed to it and abiding by its regulations and by its obligations but the economic dividend is missing and this is an unstable situation that iran can no longer bear like that so what does it want world powers to do. in fact to come up with they're part of the of the nuclear bargain of the nuclear agreement which means that international trade with iran despite u.s. sanctions that have been unilaterally reimposed are in fact compensated for by a trade mechanism that the europeans have set up but this has to become functional and operational so that iran has received its end of the bargain so this now requires germany in the u.k. and france and russia and china it requires all of those powers to do something about u.s. sanctions against iran will they this is the important question here i mean in fact
5:04 pm
we can see that political statements and grievances towards washington's decision to unilaterally leave withdraw from the agreement these statements have been voiced but the the action has so far been limited so the expectation from tehran will be that within the next sixty days some form of concrete action in terms of oil sales of iran and the transfer of of oil income to iran will be made possible so that iran sees some benefit in complying to the nuclear agreement ok so this is what iran wants but like i said this is going to require. essentially europe and russia to say to america back off or to make this this pilot mechanism more effective america doesn't seem to want to back off and if if europe could have made that payment mechanism more effective now it would already be so what's going to happen . that's
5:05 pm
a good point i mean many are saying what should happen within the next sixty days that couldn't have been happening before i guess the difference that we have right now is that while before today's announcement by president rouhani the east three plus russia and china seems to think that iran has no choice but to abide by the nuclear agreement iran has now outlined a clear roadmap as to how a gradual withdrawal could look like so that it ups the pressure and that the europeans view more necessity to save this agreement because it is in their security interest and therefore maybe do more to do that but as you say we have to remain skeptical about. tabata i thank you so much. the u.s. secretary of state might prompt travel to the u.k. today where he's been holding talks with his british counterpart to jeremy hunt let's go straight to our correspondent to get mass in london welcome back it what did the secretary of state say about iran's announcement.
5:06 pm
well secretary of state pompei was talking here together with his british counterpart jeremy hunt here in the far left office and he said that the u.s. will wait and see if it ron really follows three runs they said they would do. he didn't repeat any threats for example in the u.s. threats against european companies who continued to deal with iran and he also stressed a few times that the u.k. and the u.s. all partners in this say he very much expects the the u.k. to work together with the u.s. but also stressing that the u.s. wants to work together with the year of on this issue except that the u.k. won't see iran nuclear deal to continue in the united states clearly doesn't so as mr pompei i've been able to change any minds. well that's
5:07 pm
also jeremy hunt has been really stressing the working and cooperation to gather with the u.s. i mean he stressed a few times the very special relationship that the u.k. continues to have with the u.s. and also on these security issues a few times but very often he he was saying how the u.k. is working together with the european partners on this issue he didn't say that there would be any immediate sanctions he was asked if there was anything immediate that the u.k. together with the europeans were thinking of he said that there is a period of sixty days when when the the europeans will wait and see what happens in iran but he said that there will be consequences berger to moscow and london thank you. well take a look now at some of the other stories making news around the world results from

thailand's election show the anti military opposition alliance has won the most seats though no party has an absolute majority the two party are fugitive former prime minister thaksin shinawatra atop the polls which were held in march. at least nine people have been killed and dozens more wounded in a bombing at a soofi shrine in the pakistani city of lahore police say the explosions struck a security checkpoint outside the data dabbashi trial the building was also targeted twenty ten when a suicide attack killed more than forty. seven inmates have died and another ten seriously wounded in prison right in guatemala of prisoners took over the jail for about eight hours before a fifteen hundred police officers regain control of the facility east of the capital of guatemala city. last year b.b. the pakistani christian woman who spent eight years on death row for blasphemy has left the country
5:09 pm
a lawyer says bibi has arrived in canada to be reunited with her daughter just as her baby was sentenced to death in twenty ten after being accused of insulting the prophet muhammad in a dispute with muslim colleagues last year she won an appeal against her conviction which largely protests throughout the country and death threats from religious extremists and mother of five had been living in safe houses since a sentence was a top. joined now by wilson choudhry who chairs the british pakistani christian association and has been in close contact with us you have babies welcome to t.w. how was she. well as a baby is elated her family at the final at this opportunity now to leave pakistan where they've been terrified of the they have been under threat of that ninety five percent of the country probably want them dead and for them it's been a real pisser especially it's been
5:10 pm
a really cathartic moment for them. he is in poor health she's been nice in isolation for ten years we know the mental state is affected by that and she's been exhibiting symptoms of that that will be similar to dementia all depression and of she will need to have had the care when she gets to canada but what i can say the family are just very hopeful for their future and looking forward to and new life for freedom and in canada. lawyer has not confirmed that she has arrived in canada can you tell us well early this morning i was told by officials that she'd be leaving for canada. i've been restricted so i can't say were she survived or not. there is the sister saying that they have to allow that to be the case but i love that to say think about that but what i can say is that the they will be reunited with their two daughters who have been awaiting them since december when i
5:11 pm
was out in kandahar the time the two daughters arrived you can imagine this family's been party for ten years now it's going to be an overwhelming moment when they finally get to spend time in a proper family environment i what is the plan for the future. but the children is already taking english lessons and you know will hopefully adapt to life one of them is mentally impaired the other one is a young intelligent lady and i'm sure she will progress and achieve something wonderful of the messiness and basic english about for the to the for the family to come it's a country where they have come from a background of illiteracy. and may be able to take some time and they will need to be able to hold their hands with them as a b.b.c. have british pakistani christian association the group by i work with will be there to provide as much care attention we can for the families i get through that we
5:12 pm
have an official by scanned the area as we speak and our says will be engaging. in the families at an appropriate time and of the will for me will be a great pleasure to finding the bishop of our city who have been campaigning for the beats he has been campaigning for so long for freedom for what if i choose canada. cantor was among the first countries offered in the final to be honest. and again you know when you when you take into context an absolutely english speaking country and candor was the first they have to in the rink and the family want to place. it in my sizeable pakistani christian communities where they can be. also where they were strong classically and they went they went to places don't cut links and they were divided because that background i mean. it was one of the
5:13 pm
any english speaking countries often find that britain felt america didn't put an offer on the table for freedom and a stray via put in an asylum office based on any faith with the canadian forces. it was it was an awkward situation but they're happy to get it once from this paper choices well thank you so much for joining us mr chattery i was in charge of from the british pakistani christian association. still to come here on britain's newest royal in front of the congress he said that he's quite a clan mother the queen of what will make an anti recall the sussex. head of fact we go to south africa where people have been voting in presidential and parliamentary elections president several rom oppose a ruling and see party scene that prove all right and plummets as he struggles to deliver on promises to fight corruption and boost the country's flag caught the eye
5:14 pm
and say it is expected to win as it has every election since south africa emerged from white minority bowl twenty five years ago but analysts expect the party's margin of victory to fall doubly correspondent christine has been out on the streets of johannesburg speaking with younger voters his. in an alley in downtown johannesburg i meet rico he's twenty seven doesn't have a job and sells drugs to earn a living and can enjoy his book ok i was looking for a job any job so i was like ok what can a good cause like i need to pay for my bills madman buy shoes clothes food everything so what can i do and came out on prom fun to observe the place try to learn the place try to learn what everyone is doing on the place then i decided that ok this people they love this they don't love this let me give them a deal of respect so which is rico ses he has
5:15 pm
a diploma in hospitality and wanted to become a shift he's given up trying to look for a job he's also given up on voting in elections for me since it was the of time. and i think it's always been found for me because like. after just about that i won't get anything that what i'm doing even give us jobs we need food to give them more support but at the end of the day it is going to get it kind of yellow is twenty three he spends most of his days in internet shops sending out he c.v. but he's getting demotivated like rico he will be voting in the may eighth election my frustrations produce and continue on me being jobless or me being unemployed is the fact that like you presently have no move these are just two young south africans but the levels of apathy among youth in this country is warning south africa's electoral commission say sixty percent of eligible voters who did not
5:16 pm
register to take part in this election often know the age and that's why i went out sounds i had this but and this is this was something that with young people many of them have told me they want people to be in this election to come visit us for like this in the companies that are happening right in general. did not denoting tyson does it it is young people to like the gays in that a lot of people really really really feel like they have no name and it's useless to both you know think so a lot of people instead of being convince what to vote for you have to come pain and convince them toward frist i don't think any of the. main parties being. if they happen and see who are really catering to the you need most of the parties are promising job creation it's the right miss it for a country with an unemployment rate of more than twenty five percent but going on a little has found no comfort in campaign promises as it's my life pretty sick
5:17 pm
right to be voting i think it's quite pointless because like it's going to take another i don't know how many years for us to actually realize like change while he's given up on south africa's politicians can any little has not yet given up on his job hunt. and the first one that uttering creationists are also in johannesburg welcome how are the parties trying to get the votes of a younger generation. well of course obviously the opposition parties are trying to take advantage of that criticizing the government and saying that they could do it better but only with limited success we've had the number six million eligible young voters did not even bother to register for this vote that clearly shows a disconnect it shows frustration and amongst them are many of the so-called born frees young people who are born after one thousand nine hundred four after apartheid's time who are still not to still decided not to go to vote i was going with a young taxi driver yesterday and he actually told me he's
5:18 pm
a member of the a.n.c. because his parents told him to be a member it's like a family tradition but to him he says he doesn't want to judge political parties anymore after what has happened in the past he rather wants to judge them what they're doing for him so although he is an a.n.c. member he decided maybe he will not even vote or you might even vote for another party so besides unemployment what the issues one of the big issues for voters well several other issues in the quality of course land reform in security in the country but one thing you hear over and over again is the issue of corruption under former president jacob zuma corruption has been thriving here state funds were looted by several elites parts of the ruling party and he did not stop there is now . the took over last year from him and he promised to fight corruption and this is what he repeated over and over again also today after he cast his vote in
5:19 pm
johannesburg he said again that he will go after corrupt people but many here of course questioning will he also go after his party comrades after members of his very own party he says he will but it remains to be seen if he is very serious about that so how much of a threat. and president obama facing at this time. well according to opinion polls the a.n.c. will get more than fifty percent of the vote so they will most likely win this election but what is interesting is to look at one particular opposition party the economic freedom fighters fighters the leftist party that is rather new but they have really increased their voter base over the past two years more and more young people especially are following them but also a lot of people who are frustrated about the situation in the country haven't been seeing any change and they have rather radical ideas. and ideas how they want south africa to proceed so this is something that not only the ruling party has to watch
5:20 pm
out for but also all the other parties this kind of disconnect is of course pushing people into parties that are rather seen as radical i'm talking to thank you for joining us i do increase in johannesburg. if you have seen radical change since prime minister. came to power last year of the press has been largely freed from the tough censorship imposed by the previous regime that includes political cartoonists are starting to slow or should have stayed away has been to a new exhibition in the capital addis ababa. bringing ideas to life with the tip of the pen. these children are here to learn from the best of the twenty world famous press cartoonist have gathered in a fair piece capital to share their work and skills. holding such an event and if he is quite significant after years of autocratic rule the country's political cartoonists are on the rise last year newly appointed prime minister ahmed pledged
5:21 pm
to restore freedom of expression now more political drawings are being published. he's speaking on behalf of our it's our women's rights and their freedom to express themselves for the resort i didn't do a lot of political cartoons. because i didn't feel safe so this is also one way also expressing yourself and i would see that you know it's one form of. telling that there is freedom. today there are no more journalists in jail in a few. elias has been a political cartoonist for twenty years he chewed this katyn six years ago so he's like me with everybody who are shut up by the government or the quality is due to he's in prison so these guys have to be free i'm not going to see quarterly there
5:22 pm
is freedom but we when you compare from the last one to the last seven years you know changes are coming and now the courage moment is coming. but cartoonists are also aware of the impact they can have when it comes to very sensitive issues ethnicity is one of them and it's the main reason why some self-censorship persists in the country. and teens are myself before i say it's a browser state that there's a if i do as some cartoon which is. provoke me to make i first ask myself is it provokes people idiots i don't want people that i think twice and ten times before i just i do the character. today's cartoonists are sharpening their pencils ahead of elections due to be held next year and there's a new generation of cartoonists waiting in the wings.
