why are people more concerned. today first of all you. this. from berlin tonight european countries stuck between tehran and washington struggling to save the iran nuclear deal iran's president says he's withdrawing from key areas of the two thousand and fifteen deal curtailing iran's nuclear program the announcement comes one year after the u.s. pulled out and it could see tehran enriching uranium again soon also coming up
10:01 pm
polls have closed in a pivotal election for south africa the ruling african national congress looks set to extend its twenty five years in power but voters are angry over rampant corruption and spiraling inequality and a big day for britain's newest royal meeting the press and his great grandmother the queen but what have. what did they decide to name their little boy the answer coming up. to our viewers on p.b.s. in the united states and all around the world well iran says that it will stop complying with parts of the landmark nuclear deal struck with world powers back in two. thousand and fifteen iranian president hassan rouhani made the announcement
10:02 pm
today exactly one year after the united states through the agreement into jeopardy by you know and really withdrawing from it the deal was designed to limit iran's ability to produce nuclear fuel now although rouhani says iran could resume enriching and stockpiling your radium soon. patience has run out read the headlines of iran's newspapers president hassan rouhani says he's not trying to destroy but rather to save the nuclear agreement by leveling an ultimatum to the five countries that are still signatories. but that if these five countries return to the table in sixty days and we reach agreements on oil sales and banking then we will uphold our side of the nuclear deal. under the two thousand and fifteen nuclear deal iran agreed to let international atomic energy agency monitors into their nuclear facilities and only enrich uranium for civilian purposes in return
10:03 pm
economic sanctions on the country were lifted the international atomic energy agency says iran has been meeting its end of the bargain but that didn't prevent the u.s. withdrawing from the deal last year and reinstating sanctions now iran is threatening to enrich its uranium closer to weapons grade levels. the move comes as the u.s. has been stepping up its anti iran rhetoric secretary of state mike pump aoe made an impromptu visit to iraq this week accusing iran of posing a threat to u.s. soldiers in the country just days ago the u.s. deployed a carrier to the persian gulf the trumpet ministration policy is to exert maximum pressure on iran and their sanctions are hitting hard iran's oil exports are down and their currency has taken a dive things are getting tight for tehran. so where does this leave the iranian nuclear deal let's get the view from brussels that's where our correspondent terry
10:04 pm
scholz is joining us tonight good evening to you terry we know that the european union has spent the past year trying to rescue the arabian nuclear deal why has it for one so i'm sure. well it has rescued the iranian nuclear deal the deal is not dead despite the united states pulling out in the united states wanting very forcefully for that deal to be defunct so it defies some people's odds even that the deal still exists but what has happened is that the u.s. has put so much pressure on the other signatories on european union companies doing business in iran on china on russia to pull out of the agreement to stop doing business with iran that iran hasn't hasn't received the benefits that it was promised in exchange for curtailing its nuclear enrichment activities and other actions that the rest of the world felt might be able to lead to a nuclear weapon so now iran did exercise what it calls to teach it patience and it
10:05 pm
simply says look our economy is not doing as well as you promised us it would you have not stood up to the united states and now basically we're going to start calling some conditions of our own we know that germany is one of the five countries which remain signatories to this deal which is take a listen to what germany's foreign minister heiko mosque said today. if we don't agree with the steps taken by iran today first on. our message is and remains clear we along with our partners on condition of the stand by the nuclear agreement and that's why we expect iran to stand by the agreement completely and unconditionally. so there were you know we've got iran accusing its partners including germany of not upholding their part of the nuclear deal i mean is that a fair assessment and what can the e.u. do now moving forward. iran does have
10:06 pm
a point is economy has not returned to any state of robustness as it had hoped with following the deal it has completely implemented it according to the international atomic energy agency which is responsible for monitoring it and this is because of the u.s. sanctions the sanctions that the u.s. has has warned would be put on any country which continued any company in fact which continue doing business with iran which is completely legal under the iran nuclear deal so it puts a new companies in a in a really tough position governments in a tough position but iran is right that it hasn't gotten with it expected out of this deal at the same time the european union has tried so hard to keep it together it has implemented it is in the process of implementing i should say a system that would allow payments to go to iran without coming under u.s. sanctions that's not up and running yet and so iran has the right to be a little bit impatient about that but i believe that the e.u. certainly feels a bit betrayed by iran doing this giving it sixty days to somehow turn the situation around and as
10:07 pm
a dangerous situation in iran may not be in violation of the agreement within the next sixty days if if it returns to sort of crawling toward richmond activities again but it could get there very quickly after the sixty day period and that worries everyone it's not in anyone's interest for this to happen any iran even says itself it doesn't want to pull out of the deal is simply wants the e.u. to boost its economic its economic activity with iran so that both sides are getting what was agreed and he was basically in in a position now where it needs to work is as hard as it can to to fulfill the really the promises it made to iran and to hope that tehran doesn't actually move quickly back toward enrichment activities that's a very good foreign rouhani said today that this is surgery to save the deal not to destroy a correspondent on the story in brussels terry as always thank you. well polls have closed in south africa in the most closely contested election since the end of
10:08 pm
apartheid there the ruling african national congress is tipped to retain power but it could face a real challenge from a breakaway opposition party after its failure to improve living conditions in its quarter century in power. voting day in south africa twenty five years after the first three elections many citizens are now fed up with the way the country is being run and during that entire time the african national congress has been in power people say south africa is mired in crime corruption and economic stagnation even president cyril ramaphosa who's from the a.n.c. admits to the problems corruption walked into the way. the true nature got into their way of not focusing on that needs a puppet were brought into their way that admission may not win over voters the way the a.n.c. did at the last election five years ago when they took sixty two percent of the
10:09 pm
vote we just won them to take care of us take care of the take care of a way to train make sure that our kids are having jobs listen to what the people and it's very easy to stand they make promises but another it's another thing to actually implement and become the government that people vote for you don't switch up on us because now you and power. another possible winner could be center right democratic alliance leader of musi my mana who cast his vote is so went to the cradle of the fight against apartheid but the biggest challenger to the a.n.c. could well be leftist leader julius malema of the economic freedom fighters he's pushed for a redistribution of prime agricultural land much of which is owned by the white minority. and now president ram a poster of the a.n.c. has jumped on that bandwagon himself wanting to accelerate that redistribution and the hope of luring votes away from a layman. the results of the election are expected by saturday.
10:10 pm
well i'm joined now here the big table by south african journalist author and filmmaker on the surface jean a familiar face to our viewers here she talks with us every time we're talking about south africa and its elections it's good to see you again you're you're following these elections closely what results are you expecting well it's a bit early to to expect that the a.n.c. will probably get between fifty five and sixty percent of the vote and they will be in power for another five years. i think the difficulty is with a several from a pause after these elections take control of the mc because it's not completely in control of things and party and with the you will then stamp out corruption which is like the biggest. issue in south africa at the moment it's hard to imagine the after twenty five years we're talking about the main party in power having. a
10:11 pm
leader that really is not maybe in control and a party that is part and parcel of rampant corruption i mean that's it's a horrible place to be after you've had democracy for twenty five years and that's what i'll say. pinioned polls show that more than fifty percent of the population of south africa is very very unhappy because their very big party is the face of corruption in the country and he's promised he said after the election and you know he did the rule of law will take its. people will be charged and all of that but you still sits with the vice president is very corrupt with his general secretary of the a.n.c. is. a gangster in many ways and he doesn't seem to have got control of his party in some ways very similar to london a who also never managed to sort of really get control of his and paul what effect
10:12 pm
is time having here i mean we've got a generation of first time voters this year too. i have never known anything but a a democratic in freeze of africa what impact is that having on politics in the country i think to any party that's been in power for twenty five years is not a good thing in in the country at all and i think we see a lot of young people sort of waking up and say we've seen it with protests on the campuses and saying this is not the south africa we want now the economic freedom fighters all very popular in south africa they control most of the it's aussies on the university campuses and a lot of young. black and intelligent just all voting for them because they see it as the only alternative to the. way they still.
10:13 pm
feel they sort of maybe to some of the values that they parents vote with but it's also a genuine nation the last thing you need between parents and the next generation and you see this if you see them growing in popularity and political power yes i think we're you know we're all watching with that they're going to double the votes in this election and definitely in the next election they will be the biggest challenge to really party on the surface it is always we appreciate your time and your insights thank you thank you very much. well we go now to pakistan and you have bibi the christian woman who spent years on death row on the blasphemy charge but she has left the country according to her lawyer she is now in canada where two of her daughters are thought to have already been granted asylum for b.b. it marks the start of a new life in safety far from the islamist hardliners in pakistan who wanted her dead. she's one of the most talked about women in pakistan as the abebe
10:14 pm
pictured here shortly after her conviction in two thousand and ten the christian mother of five sentenced to death for alleged remarks about islam during an argument with fellow farm workers who refused to share their glass of water with a non muslim. she was acquitted in october twenty eight hundred and went into hiding not on death row but still in constant fear for her life and this is why hard line islamists calling for her to be hanged. the supreme court's decision triggered days of nationwide protests. who are who are in every corner of the country the sons of islam have voiced opposition to the supreme court verdict by going on to the streets. what kind of a verdict is this from the supreme court of an islamic republic which is troubling muslims but satisfying infidels.
10:15 pm
demonstrations were only called off when the government agreed to bar bibi from leaving the country pending an appeal to her acquittal but this case is already linked to the killings of at least two people. the governor of punjab province. seen here on the right was assassinated by his bodyguard in two thousand and eleven after speaking in bts defense later the same year federal minister for minorities shahbaz bhatti was killed after calling for her release. and this was the reaction in january of this year after the supreme court upheld its verdict that's crowds demanding death. were earlier i spoke to wilson challenger who chairs the british pakistani christian association he has been in close contact with his family throughout her ordeal i asked him how was she doing well i asked to be elated our family had the final. you know this opportunity now to

leave pakistan but they've been terrified. of being on the street of that ninety five percent of the country probably want them to it. is for them it's been a real pisser place and it's been a real cathartic moment for them. she is in poor health she's been ice in isolation for ten years we know the mental state is affected by that and she's been exhibiting symptoms all of that will be similar to. dementia old depression and though she will need to create when she gets to canada but what i can say can't the family i just very hopeful for the future and looking forward to a new life for freedom and in canada. that was wilson jones with the british pakistani christian association here's some of the other stories now that are making headlines around the world double trump has used presidential privilege to block the release of information demanded by congress the white house wants to

. on a donut and company and she are the lead candidates for momentum a young hungry movement they are set to challenge prime minister viktor orban as far right feet as party in the upcoming evil actions. hungary and his allies and house obviously are sufficient feed all those along the line they are destroying the unity if you're up there fighting against our shared accomplishments they want to create a year of that is less stable less organized less powerful and i think that's your of these to be reformed in order to fight again these populists the majority of young people have joined the march for europe today to mark the fifteenth anniversary of hungary joining the book after all it's them who in practice benefit the most and are who are less likely to buy into the anti european rhetoric of the governments despite prominent support from e.u. commissioner ma get the best aga only
10:19 pm
a few hundred momentum supporters joining today's march there's a mood of political apathy in the country but for those who came out today the view is a fundamental issue. we are against the corruption what's. garments right now and there are a hundred presence of european union what's going around here is just unacceptable the european union is like this symbol of freedom and free speech and it's like. the last hope. these young carians are tired of the government's anti e.u. policies and many have moved to other e.u. countries for a better future since the two thousand and eight financial crisis close to five hundred thousand mostly young carians have gone abroad that's almost five percent of the population. but for the governing fetus party stopping this mass exodus
10:20 pm
doesn't seem to be a priority there e.u. campaign focuses exclusively on the alleged threat that immigration poses to the country. these campaign activists tell us that young people leaving the country are not the issue suddenly my opinion is not only hungary and so moved to work abroad that's part of the new freedoms that the youth from poland and greece travel abroad germans also come to hungary told us that we don't would you not me my thoughts i wish wasn't. momentums vice presidents and donuts blames the government for failing to provide for her generation she says she's committed to creating a future for young gary and here at home regardless of the odds. after three elections and feed us one super majority. you can say that ok. that's hopeless maybe con to anything anymore so even if this election one tear knowledge of a the hope for it doesn't mean that next time be kind be more successful stronger more

motivated i mean if you if you fail then you stand up and do twice as hard in last year's parliamentary elections momentum fails to pass the five percent threshold but with a few more weeks to go and a third of hungary's young people still undecided there's a chance they could make their dream of shaking up hunger in politics in europe a reality. for it is now a political tit for tat in turkey the main opposition party the c.h.p. wants past election results were. favored the ruling party overturned that includes local as well as national results from two thousand and eight team the opposition there to hitting back after electoral authorities scrapped istanbul's recently oral alexion out that contest was won by the a c.h.p. in a humiliating defeat for president everyone's a k party authorities ruled that the election has to be rerun due to
