campaign behind them. my we have to look ahead we have to take everyone together even people who oppose us will take them with us we have to work for the benefit of this country. indian papers were bursting with superdelegates i've emerges landslide win some calling it a now moment others saying his hindu nationalist wave had become a tsunami. it was a crushing blow to india's most powerful political dynasty role gandy head of the opposition congress party lost the seat of i'm 80 which he's famous family had held for 4 decades. i want to see that. is not the big put me to go into the details of these men did but is that the there is a new prime minister has been elected and good is that it was him all the best and

. only he would look after the interest of. modi has promised a more inclusive india over the next 5 years but he might also see a mandate to push his hindu 1st policies even harder. found the car spoke with hello asked ned an associate professor at the center for developing societies she asked him what modes reelection means for india's minority muslims do make up the largest religious minority in india and in recent years we have heard reports rights groups have documented a rise in mob violence in lynching started against muslims that also against low cost in $2.00 groups do you think this is a sense of feel a sense of certainty because if you ask me would leave one issue off entire muslim population in the country is that this fear now this fear is created systematic and
4:34 pm
if not to avoid but lynching so when you lynch a person you create a fear psyche in the community or communities of muslims so they have somehow succeeded now if mr modi is talking about inclusiveness now i think he has to do a bit more work on his governance type of fatness because certainly if you evaluate his performance as nabl administrator he was virtually feared being booted out in 2002 when he was the chief minister of dhaka very street vendor took place and as the prime minister of this country he remained silent on virtually all of these episode which took place with regard as a result and the 3rd important aspect was there media which is actually pro government media could you get a discourse where hindu muslim became. polarized got tickets and mr

morsi didn't actually do anything to in order to ease distention he said a few words but that would do late and do it. it's not just the future of minorities in question but the future of young people as well all parties saddam is a major voting bloc in the run up to the election. prime minister narendra modi even called them creators of the destiny of our nation in the 21st century. to people who work with creators on a regular basis roughly 45000000 new young voters in the 18 to 25 way eligible to vote in this election whether they all voted on not as yet more importantly who they voted for is also unclear but there might be some people who have an idea of what the young people in india expect in the next 5 years from this government for more i'm joined now. by angelica you are

a political activist and you worked a lot with young people and on truth value of the founder of yukio was or voice of the youth an online platform that looks at young people's issues if i can just begin with you 1st on trial i remember we had spoken before the election got underway in full swing and you had talked about how you as a conductor been a survey about the issues that i'm important to young people and one of the issues was employment and if you look at the election result the way it's come out if everybody had voted with the employment is the issue perhaps you would have had a different result can you explain this different i know for sure so i think you know one of the things that we observed and saw that he clearly was that vial issues like employment health care crisis even makin a lot of young people do not translating into issues of people who want the war don't expect the same government to still resolve those issues it's not like the expectations are going to change we still want jobs they want to better education system but at the same time there is something about the b.g.p.

on i mean the more the in particular that does seem like you know charming bill young people when they go out and want so it kind of ends up trumping all of these issues which do still matter to young people at the same time young people in india who also hold these very close to themselves so you know that ended up playing a very big role in this election also. so i think those 2 kind of go hand in hand when we talk about those young people and then it in terms of identity is one of the i did just these very you have seen young people or don't do i mean is that what has always been important to young people in the some troll the history of india if we look at politics movements people have been very closely associated with the cost and volatile parties have been looking at exploiting that for the world bank but in the last 5 years with the new interim want to go and what has happened is people have started taking releasing more closely than cost so when to be. in the early action as well as now they have started exploiting religion so now

it's the issue will fall off of us and them against minorities the move lim the christians that there is a new list of the hindus who are a majority so now the struggle between the young people is. already mentioned they will be i did this is very very close to the heart and their identity primary identity right now is their religion in terms of this does not mean that the opposition for example could not see this trend that this is how young people think of potential talk about issues such as employment potential just. for the i did to be is that some of the. opposition was focused primarily on the agenda. and employment on the money that happened in india on the new tax museum that's coming but these were not important to the young people if you will of its identity politics of identity politics but the opposition was not harping on it to mean we're looking at solving the issues that currently the countries see things like 45 year highest unemployment rate in the country every culture which gives employment
4:39 pm
to more than half of the population 80 new york. this fact is what the opposition was looking and you know this was the agenda that they put all the people that we will solve this issue thinking that those are what the people want but unfortunately that's not what the people want to ensure what does this say about the young. people in this country i mean just a quarter in a boat in a movie called young people in this country the creators of the destiny of our nation what kind of a destiny can we expect these young people to create if they're looking at a strong man in prison and not looking at the issues of the day as angelica mentions you know i mean it's obviously very difficult to answer this but at the same time the trends that we're seeing is that what young people want is somebody who comes across as really strong leader and when i say strong i mean somebody who are police projects an image of india outside of the world which is that you know it's a border country which is a to move forward in a direction that it needs to an additional it's a country where you know. issues like. you know. seizures in
4:40 pm
india and pakistan will be taken very very easy to sleep issues like identity will be taken away basically so i think what young people are really looking at when it comes in in the movie is this image of you know of a strong leader i do same time you know it's very important also north that what people have essentially voted for is that you know it's an economy that favors culprits is a country that you know wants to go to any measure possible to protect its culture . you know isn't is a country that mean not care so much about personal liberty and freedom which is scary of course and i think maybe there is a chance that that those are not voting issues right now but if these issues not get his daughter the more the government still does not end up working on issues like you know employment plus the liberty freedom my feeling is that they will creep up on the government at some point you know in the future in the you know elections after this one if i'm
4:41 pm
a young person in india or can i reasonably expect this government to have the competence to solve you choose in the long term. at least in the 5 victims i don't because the government is not focused on solving this issue they have nothing talking about it all to do you guys have been by radar distorted and so you have the full goods on you know building on the sentiment of nationalism and though there isn't hiding behind it i think also draw that in trying to solve this issue and when the opposition brings up this issue and try to get the government to welcome them they don't come into losing bring on some you wish you like one nationalism fundamentally i make an example yeah i just i don't add to that you know the thing is that. in india one idea that you cannot question is beyond how indian you are right because that's something we've all jelly close to us as the moment you start building your politics around it the moment you start seeing that i am more indian than you what i am the most indian that's you know
4:42 pm
possibly out there of course it gets in you start getting the only ball it is' you cannot expect me to produce all this within 5 years at all you don't have any you would have as a nation in the bottom and i do so how do you take young people's voice is there a quick final word from both of you a multiple of those future for young people in india for sure yes all of us richer yes but also that will lead to one particular awareness and hopefully a brighter future maybe some brighter future coming out of greece polarize into i think you both for coming on to this talk of for us that's nice to see it from but also both you heard the voices of 2 young people themselves who work with a number of young people interesting times ahead 5 more years of the names or more the government we don't leverage and watch and see how young people in this country perform if i can put it that barry over the next 5 years. that's it for today you can find more stories on our website www dot com forward slash asia and be sure to check us out on facebook as well we'll leave you with more from india as modi b j p
