age 10 on played competitive club soccer. throughout my teenage years i train 4 days a week played tournaments on the weekends and went running daily to stay in shape aside from schoolwork and all the rest. ok i'm not in as good of shape as i was back then and i haven't practiced my shot in a while but i used to be really good. i met up with one of my old coaches who i hadn't seen or spoken to in at least 15 years but he still remembers how girls like me were fired up about soccer after the 99 when. you were really hard worker. very dedicated. you know a lot of enthusiasm and passion for for wanting to learn wanting to get better. and thinking you know you played with a lot of joy and you seem like you enjoyed it and i enjoyed coaching you but my

soccer past is by no means unique so enough about me i'm not the one who went pro here. alex morgan has a similar past she 1st started to play competitive club soccer at age 14 our teams even used to play against each other. i met with her former club coach and asked him what she was like when she 1st joined this team a lot of speed a lot of tenacity but no control and no patience. so that 1st couple of years from recreation into competitive soccer was a great roath mindset. growth mindset experience in terms of patience and getting her to be better off and on the ball not only with her skill but her mentality and so i would say overall the 1st year 1st 2 years was a true growth experience for her but right out the gate she shot up and. reaching the stars where she's on now america's competition driven mentality that starts

already up to youth level is one reason. for the sports success but at times it can be even to extreme soccer clubs in the united states have to sometimes take a step back and say ok we're training forty's we've got tournaments on the weekends we've got this this and that but are we letting the kids have a time to reflect and relax and breathe or we just keep shoving soccer down their throat and they want ends up happening the players have burnell too much pressure on them and then the quitting the sport whereas i quit at the end of high school alex continued all the way she played in college at u.c. berkeley went on some played professionally at numerous clubs and has been on the national team since 2010. but paved the way for her success alex was already breathing and feeling that next level attitude right of us soccer and so on that's the key i think is making sure we have idols set in place for the

young ladies to follow and that inspires them to want to do more if it weren't for the pioneers on the victoria's 1st women's national team girls our age probably never would have even played soccer let alone dream of going pro. for me it all traces back to this place on a july afternoon in 1909. i'm at the rose bowl stadium in pasadena california and 20 years ago i was in this exact same spot in the crowd watching the women's national team win the world cup final in 1990 i was 11 years old i came with my dad and i remember it was over 100 degrees the stadium was packed full over 90000 people i remember i had a stain on it going to merican flag and i was sweating it off and then i remember it ended in a penalty shoot out and brandy's has been one of the winning shot from the spot and

then she ripped off her jersey. like the men do and showed off her. muscles and leg body and it was so cool the game remained the country's proudest moment and still holds the world record for the most attended women's sporting event in history. later that same summer i went to the julie foudy soccer camp long training with the 99 er's i got to play with. kristine lilly who is alex's idol. and julie foudy my biggest hero. back in l.a. 20 years later since i'm now a sports journalist i got to attend the training session and meet the current players and the 99 er's once again julie foudy the former team captain played for the u.s. for 17 years since the very beginning when conditions were much worse than they are today. a lot more rocci hotels $10.00

started we had some very talented women that were hungry. and be around other women that wanted to be. because a lot of us were playing with boys or. just trying to play soccer there was a women's leagues or anything so then we finally got to the national team and then around 20 other women had the same desire passion fight cheers that we had like this is awesome kristine lilly is the most capped player in soccer history both men and women's she was even still on the team when alex joined in 2010 when lily finally retired after 23 years alex inherited her number. when alex showed up i told her i was from florida and the girls are cool but i underestimated how far we've grown apart she's a star now and i'm one of the press still we share the same idols the culture that
