a show of unity those western allies ok unity is so important such an important message there before we talk more about this let's take a look back at the events of 75 years ago today and that the legacy of d.-day. at 1st glance it's hard to see any sign of the horrors that this stretch of sand played host to about 75 years ago on june 6th the fate of an entire continent rested on the soldiers who came ashore here on omaha beach. operation overlord su a combined force with nearly 160000 american british and canadian troops land on the beaches of normandy. gaining a foothold in nazi occupied france came at a heavy price the fighting on d.-day in the weeks afterwards claimed the lives of tens of thousands of allied soldiers but their sacrifice hastened the defeat of hitler's 3rd reich. commemorating the fall and became an important ritual for the

when france and germany 1st commemorated the invasion of normandy together it was seen by observers as a sign of deepening european unity in the face of strained transatlantic ties. and faced with threats both foreign and domestic the bond of european unity continues to be put to the test 75 years after the events of d.-day. we've just seen in a report how much has changed in germany as to how d.-day is viewed here and that makes the visit today by the german chancellor all american all the more significant at these commemorations. it really does we've just heard no german leader has attended the ceremony before 2004 so this is quite a new thing that chancellor merkel is attending the ceremony and it is of utmost importance the day being the key day here that changed the course of history and

interest in this case the court was packed today with both poles supporters members of his family and also abusive i was and they're up against so there's a lot of interest there's also only usually been a live stream of the court case at the victorian supreme court so that people around australia and indeed around the world can watch what's been going on. roger maynard force latest on that appeal scase in the city thanks very much now to the czech capital prague where tens of thousands of protesters filled the streets on tuesday to demand the resignation of prime minister andre bobbish was one of the country's biggest political demonstrations since the fall of communism in 1990 bobbish multi-billionaire who's vowed to stay in power despite our patients he fraudulently used you subsidies. of the money students against a billionaire. last minnaar has been mobilizing big crowds for weeks.

approved by the court that he was a collaborator of communist secret police now this toxic combination is just too much for some people in the czech republic but we also have to and society that we are primarily talking about the protests in prague that 50 kilometers away from prague they recently completely different czech republic where people do not care too much and seem to be pretty satisfied with the public of what you know and spite of the report's findings that that you just mentioned and the protests that were just tuesday they go back a while now that we've seen abolishes anno party amerge the 1st and last month's european election now considering that level of report how much of a threat are the protests in prague to his power. within his own party he is in complete control there is no resistance whatsoever this is pretty much

a one man off with pool members being more or less dependent on the bobby so they reached no threat to under a bobby from inside his own of the and also it was mentioned his junior coalition of the social democrats they're also in all kinds of trouble they didn't also pose any major threat now we can also think about the force the spillover effect of the protests to the rest and tree but i don't thing this is going to happen in a fake massive scale that it will spread and bubblicious position but it's really the criminal investigation in the czech republic goes on and he actually will be tried as they swill be a significant issue for bob franken abolishes is accused of wrongly claiming millions in new grants how's that you respond specifically to those allegations. now this is something that we have to wait how this will materialize but european
