9:07 pm
issue of stemming migration that said when it comes to his medicine to treat the perceived ailment i think it's fair to say that they he runs into more problems both in the democratic count on the republican town namely in that he's using an economic tool to treat a societal issue and the republicans are concerned that this could also cost us jobs a recent study has estimated it around $400000.00 u.s. jobs could be set to go from this move not to mention the fact that at the end of the day tariffs are tuxes and they're paid for by u.s. businesses and consumers so we can expect price increases on products such as fruit vegetables crude oil or pause and got a century is the reason that we've seen the chairman of the house means and ways committee come out and say that if these levees go ahead he would then issue a resolution of disapproval i'm saying that this is abuse of power namely because it would affect u.s. companies and the u.s.
9:08 pm
consumer and the economy as a whole all right we're not there yet how about the u.s. the mexican negotiators are still working on the outlines of this high stakes agreement could the courage to still be averted what solution would satisfy the president. that is correct both the u.s. delegation and the mexican delegation still talking still negotiating that said there is a deadline looming for the president to sign off and not executive order of friday night and what could happen is that he signs that order and then he rolls it back over the course of the weekend if there is a breakthrough but the breakthrough would have to be significant we know that trump wants to see the assigned them a regional sign a new change so that asylum seekers must remain in the 1st country of entry upon leaving their home country that could be very tricky to hammer out not to mention the fact that the american civil liberties union has already said that it would soon so this breakthrough may not come very quickly as we can off to appease the

president and in the meantime he may just keep out threats tariffs looming. all right well that's really down to the wire got 20 seconds left these tariffs could really hurt the american economy how anxious are american businesses they're very angry actually 75000 jobs added to the u.s. economy last month far fewer than expected there are there certainly concerns right now about the robustness of the economy to withstand this now and i'm for reporting for you from washington thank you. and here in germany the environmentalist green party is enjoying a big surge in support for the 1st time its polling ahead of chance on america's conservatives and it's the merged as the number one party in the nation if elections were held now this would be the outcome take a look for the 1st time the greens would get the most votes 26 1st sent
9:10 pm
conservative c.d.u. c.s.u. bloc would be right behind with get this 25 percent well then comes the far right populist party the deal with 13 percent america's current coalition partner the center left social democrats would drop to 4th place with just 12 percent that's basically a wipe out on the business from the f.d.p. would get 8 percent followed by the left party with 7 percent let's take a closer look now at what's driving this boost in support for germany's environmentalists we asked climate protesters at today's friday's for future rally here in berlin what they think about this clean surge. demonstrators have been protesting for weeks to get the politicians to act on climate change many think the green party has at least some of the answers does that explain the surge in support for the greens. green v i would vote green i think the greens have the best goals
9:11 pm
the best thing in the last how do you think of my life i think many people see them as an alternative to feeling that but also as the lesser evil that's claimed to meanness tightly and they have fresh ideas they stand up for the environment and they don't block everything in advance they're the only political force who are doing anything or at least say they're going to do something. in the recent year opinion elections green parties more than doubled their seats in brussels in germany they took one in 5 votes giving them the 2nd highest support of any party greens leader robert hartwig thinks he knows why. these. changes its young people are involved immediately you don't have to climb a long ladder before you get heard instead you can prove yourself quickly that makes us accessible and open to social changes shifts new forms of communication
9:12 pm
new issues sound fresh views. of current as one poll shows 27 percent of germans think the greens have the best chances for the future far ahead of the other main parties is it time for them to start building up the personality you might lead the next german government from now they're reticent. at the next farm elections in germany are going to enough years away so early to talk such about such a thing like the chancellor of the green party especially because you have a couple of very very complicated election is coming in the east of the country so i wouldn't rule anything out but it's definitely too early to talk about. for now the anger about climate changes lead to a blossoming in the greens popular support only a national election will show if we can take them back into government. and i'm now joined here in the studio by daniela by as
9:13 pm
a member of the german parliament with the green parliamentary group fred thank you so much for coming in from what was basically a fringe party to the very top of the polls what is your party planning on doing to hold onto that momentum to that wave of popularity that you're writing right now 1st of all we have seen such great polls already but we weren't able to finish up in the elections but we have a very european very successful european elections a couple of weeks ago and of course there's a push for our topics that we are standing for which is protecting the environment combating climate change and defending the open society and that's what we want to work on because we think the government is not doing enough about it talking about the government this coalition is in trouble the waters are not doing very well there's even talk of a possibility of snap elections you stand to benefit from that well 1st of all it's the responsibility of the coalition we need a government we need a strong government that is actionable germany will lead the present presidency of
9:14 pm
the european council in the next year so of course we need to stream government and i don't know what's going to happen we are seeing some serious dynamics you're absolutely right the government is in a deep crisis actually it's the 3rd crisis within one of the have years and i don't know what's coming up and we need to be prepared for anything that's coming up what is for sure is we will not run away from responsibility what do you credit your. success on i mean why have people voted for you in such great numbers because climate change which is of course one of your top topics it has been on people's minds and people's awareness but somehow it has gained urgency right now why it's quite interesting because we were talking a lot about migration within the last 3 years in germany and not in a very positive way and climate change has not even been about within the top 10 topics and now it's number one of course many things has led to dead one is because the government is not doing anything about it 2nd we have many many young
9:15 pm
especially young people who are on the streets demonstrating for more action in terms of climate change and i think we have the greens have given very concrete concepts how to tackle this because germany is an industry heavy economy and we have to transform it to an ecological sustainable economy i think we have some good concepts that i think people are realizing that now of course the german economy is doing pretty well what happens if it doesn't do so well and if people have to start worrying about jobs climate then takes a back seat are you worried that because you are a party that focuses primarily on the climate that you might suffer losses as a consequence should you diversify basically your agenda i think the opposite is the case you know i'm from bob which is down south the economic powerhouse of germany your home of dima of course of porsche big famous companies reinventing themselves currently also and the greens have really as the strongest party
9:16 pm
since 2011 so bringing together businesses and the economy on the one hand and ecological sustainability billet on the other hand is a business model of the green so basically we need the same for the federal elections and i think if we want to be successful here in germany with our industry if you want to sell products was which are sustainable in the future actually we have to bring bring both together both worlds and i think we're giving some concrete answers to that are dying out by as of the green party search think you for spending friday evening with us thanks for having. our us where you have to be now with some of the other stories making news around the world. ethiopian minister abi ahmed is in neighboring sudan in an attempt to revive talks between that country's military and pro-democracy movement ahmed called for a quick democratic transition after a meeting with sudan's generals and hard to also sat down with protest leaders who say over 100 people were killed by a paramilitary group in a recent crackdown. thousands of protesters have been demonstrating in the liberian

9:18 pm
it will open the international space station to commercial travel beginning get this next year all space tourists are out and as well as astronauts from private companies will be able to visit the station though only 2 short missions will be allowed each year and the charge for staying on board will be just $35000.00 a night getting to the space station will cost a cruel $58000000.00 hoping to maintain or his credit. card may drop if you may want to go to your producers when the 2nd is over and ask them if they'd like to send you on assignment and if they have a few dollars left over it's going to be expensive for a while but the interesting thing now is before when people went to visit the space station they had to do it through the russians it was a 3rd party it was complicated the prices were clear now nasa speaking of very clear what it would take to get a ticket to go to the space station what you could do there and how much it would cost just like any other trip to a high priced resort what could i mean what could space tourists expect from this
9:19 pm
kind of trip will they have to undergo any tests before going into space you know the people who visit the space station before as commercial astronauts have had to go through physical exams make sure you're healthy enough to go there's some basic safety training really sure you know what to do in case something goes wrong but pretty much and i'd done some of the training if you can survive the transoceanic flight on a jet and and you do better for it you could probably fly into space you just need the money just never in that's a that's a very what oh what's nasa is motivation here why is it to make up for companies to offer this kind of thing. well it was inevitable one of the things that nasa needs to do is find ways to maybe could some of the expense of the space station on to the private sector so we can use some funds for congress to go do things like going back to the moon a little present from descent that are on twitter that they're not going back to
9:20 pm
the moon but then a public change tomorrow but the idea here is that nasa needs to free up resources so we can now move back to exploring well the routine stuff that you do in near earth orbit or will report it can be done by the private sector. is this just a start a space tourism what does the future hold. well the start of space tourism is actually in the film 2001 space odyssey came out and he saw hotels and whatnot space and people got thinking about what that would take but flash forward to about 15 years ago when dennis tito's of interval out of tickets again through the russian so it's this isn't a new concept but what is new is nasa has a very firm set of rules and pricing is so poor that make it much clearer and probably easier to buy a ticket to go to the space station and i train with keith that cowing editor of nasa watch dot com in washington thank you. now to the u.k. a worrying rise in the number of hate crimes against the country's community the
9:21 pm
country says crimes targeting people have jumped more than 25 percent in the past 2 years and now during pride month an attack against a same sex couple in london is fueling fresh outreach. joining me now in the studio for more on this story is. vader she's here with me right now. tell us what exactly happened this is unfortunately not a happy story there were 2 women on a bus in london last night and a group of young men got on the bus with them and when they discovered these 2 women were in fact a couple of romantic couple not just friends the men began harassing them telling them oh kiss for us making crude gestures and suggestions at them and the women tried to diffuse the situation they said but unfortunately it escalated we have pictures of what happened to them and then beat them up and robbed them this is from one woman's a facebook account name is malani
9:22 pm
a game or not she's actually me or when we know her girlfriend's name is chris she posted these told the story and that's how this all took off of course this is scary but as you mentioned this is this is pride and this is a really sobering reality check that just because there are more people who are living out of the closet living their lives all around the world it doesn't mean they're necessarily safe yet even in a relatively progressive place like london london of all places. this also happened as you pointed out during the upright months basically how if people reacted to this well the story has fortunately it may not a happy ending but a upswing on the ending because for male teenagers were arrested we have the official statement from twitter from the metropolitan police they were aged between $15.18 which is really just to me mind blowing that they were that young they're being questioned on suspicion of robbery and a grievous bodily harm according to the. arius news of course that came out of this is drawn a lot of attention from various political figures including city com the very

outspoken mayor of london he said that he this was a disgusting massaging this attack posting his solidarity with the victims also jeremy corbyn the leader of the opposition party in the u.k. he said this is absolutely shocking this was a homophobic attack we can see how this picture just really stirred up a lot of emotions it's been everywhere all over the u.k. news this is the stonewall organization which is an l g b t advocacy group and they said that you know you think in 2019 these attacks wouldn't happen anymore but here we are this is our reality and this woman i think really put it the most recently she's a u.k. government employee and she said this is why we still need pride month because even though we've come so far these sorts of things are still happening even with the ages of these attackers unfortunately this is a persistent problem a problem that's on the rise and actually as we were sitting here i got an alert on my phone that says the trouble ministration is not going to allow u.s. embassies around the world to fly the flag during pride month so happy pride like

this is more work to do thank you so much more assured are greatly appreciated thank you. all right the women's world cup is here and host nation france has just kicked off the tournaments against south korea french football fans flooded the fan zone near the. head of the opening match to show their support and as you can see fans of all ages were in good spirits hoping libby can optimize home field advantage and win it all. while germany open their women's world cup campaign on saturday against china and germany were champions in 20032007 but this year they face a big challenge if they are to lift the trophy again it's a new look team and there is a new coach too so for the. they're keeping their tournament expectations.

that seem reborn germany's 2019 world cup squad a new generation of players for most the world cup in france is their 1st big tournament but for the 1st time the german team among the favorites. you know what we won we've all got the same. but it's a name they refuse to clarify if we want to play attacking football and have as much possession as we can and the new coach is here to improve their style of play she's only been in the job for 6 months but she's been in the business for 20 years martina is no rookie in part i met prophetic but ambitious emotional and analytically objective about. the players being tested to the limits. this is crazy about tactics we've been practicing through balls and training and it

all has to be exactly right. and don't stop until it perfected what we're doing at. the start of the squad is midfielder jennifer merritt of champions league winners olympic if she stays fit this could be her tournament youngster lay a shallow on the right is another of germany's top talents and a big goal for it. the team looks carefree they're doing their best to appear relaxed it's a new image and one they preferred to the role of favorites for me there is not one clear favorite there are several teams and there will be a lot of luck involved it depends on how the tournament pans out. vs no one will get anything for free at this tournament performs this one the 1st. time to shine is germany's motto at the tournaments in france to begin with any chance they'll have to stop. on the front foot. oh well rock and roll and you want to give
