hong kong and several 100 protesters clashed with police outside the city's parliament it was the culmination of day long peaceful marches against a new extradition law a group of demonstrators tried to force their way into the legislative council building police used batons and pepper spray to force them back. organizers estimate more than a 1000000 people marched on sunday in the biggest protest since 24 teens yellow umbrella pro-democracy movement. in. mainland china all sorts of way. to exercise. in hong kong. to kidnap people they treat us enemy laughed a proposed extradition law would allow suspects to be sent to china to face trial from kong's leaders say the law is needed to plug loopholes and stop the city being a bolthole for mainland fugitives they say dissidents and critics will not be

extradited but many are not convinced. this law is going to have a very large impact on the next generation here in hong kong so if i didn't come out well there's not really much else we can do these days everyone in hong kong would like to have a peaceful life as working class people and we're all terrified of this law. when britain handed hong kong back to china in 1997 beijing promised they would be one country 2 systems many say that under the regime of xi jinping that promise is being eroded the city's appointed leader kerry lamb has staked a. political reputation on this bill passing but protest groups say they'll wretched up their actions if the bill is not dropped the yellow umbrellas are already unfolding. tens of thousands of people have crossed venezuela's border with colombia after it reopened for the 1st time in 4 months on saturday venezuelans
9:04 pm
made the journey to the neighboring country on foot desperate to buy food and medicine not available at home the crossing was closed in february advantage of the oil and president nicolas maduro requested following a deepening political crisis opposition leader to clear himself and as well as interim president and january are going back to a rose reelection last year was illegitimate. let's cross over now to our correspondent had i would have us who is in the colombian capital bogota good to have you with us tell us what's been happening at the border since it reopened yesterday. well the situation is pretty much under control despite the long queues the colombian authorities have also doubled down the efforts in order to ensure that there is a regular crossing between both countries authorities estimate that about 70000 people have crossed the border back and forth so far now this does not necessarily mean that there is more people crossing the border but rather that there is less
9:05 pm
people crossing it illegally and this means a big relief not only for those families who need the basic goods that you mentioned but also for the families in colombia who are dependent on sales of products toobin as well and let's not forget that is big business and lastly it's a big relief for colombian authorities they are trying to ensure to make every effort they can in order to ensure that this crossing is regular and that there's a record of the people who are entering and leaving the country because every illegal border crossing it means big opportunity for crime and for smartly do we know what's behind monday rose decision to reopen the border. well for that let's not forget why the border was closed in the 1st place madhura was trying to avoid humanitarian aid packages working nights to buy the venezuelan a position to enter the country through colombia that was the reason why he closed the border in the 1st place now about a week ago the colombian government announced that those humanitarian aid packages
9:06 pm
that could not enter the country because the door avoided it and that were stored in colombian territory ever since would now be distributed to venezuelans in colombia but there is no longer an effort to get that humanitarian aid into venezuelan territory so that would explain the decision at least immediately however if we ask the colombian as well in a position rather than as well in a position considers that this is a reaction to increase pressure from within the country because people are desperate to get food and medicines from colombia and even oil in the country with the biggest oil reserves in the world i these people actually crossing the border to get basic goods or are they set to leave the country for good. well i would say the most pressing situation right now is just to simply get food and medicine for the families back in venezuela so most people would actually get into the country and then get back into it as well and there is a special permission special pass if you will for those venezuelans living in
9:07 pm
border towns to get into colombian territory and to be in the province that is the border province to venezuela without any special requirements that is one of the efforts that the colombian authorities have taken in order to ensure that there is regular process and a registered process for people crossing the border however of course there is a big influx of migrants there are trying to make a living here in colombia and to leave venezuela for good as well. just briefly if you can colombia has been taking and thousands of venezuelan refugees how's the country coping. well it is struggling for sure for every migrant there's about $300.00 of vailable in the budget for this crisis compare that to about $5000.00 that exist for syrian refugees so colombia needs international support in order to tackle this financially to nicol i you know they are both in thank you very much. now some of the other stories making news around the world at

a resolution. and kazakhstan interim president. has won the presidential election exit polls give the incumbent around 70 percent of the vote election day in the country was marred by the arrest of hundreds of peaceful protesters there accusing authorities of running a sham vote. earlier we spoke with journalist rate standish in kazakhstan's capital nor sultan about the situation in the country the day was marked by these are the biggest protests country seen of 3 years people protesting not yeah what they saw. you know predetermine something that would i could not bear election process and there were protests across the country quite large on the largest where nobody would see the financial dumbness so gross a promise kept but where i go. into your business 3 steps that are around 500 people had been arrested. by around the time polls close today including several
9:10 pm
journalists who are out there reporting on the protests. it's my understanding that journalists are no relief for most of them although i haven't confirmed all that but many of the demonstrators who are protesting people peacefully are still in detention the police when i was out on the screen today you know they're very forceful you know wearing black clad right here. they drag many protesters began kentucky where are we here by voting on they're waiting for them to change and i hold off to jail so this is by far the most dramatic thing that we saw in terms of arrests in this whole election process but it also fits with what has been kind of simmering under the surface that have been the buildup to the fall which also saw a pretty systemic got a crackdown on activists and take out the protesters. thank you.

if they 3 of the women's world cup and joining me to talk about all the action and all the moving from delhi so far it's all you welcome and in today's 1st match australia took on and only had about one go yeah i expected a tight game have i have to say i was still a little surprised by the outcome and that's because italy who were very much the on the docks going into the guy pulled off an excellent despite to beat a very talented australia side and now before i say anything else about it why don't we take a look at the highlights. australia were awarded an early penalty and the chunks for a dream start captain samantha current took responsibility sloughing her lines 1st before slipping home the rebound. a heavy touch from defending clint poking home allowed italy's bar but i've been in a run of gold in the 55th minute. this strike is staying cool to draw her side level. we became willing to

injury time italy one of free kick. and been in ca i was under it again to score and hand her side to dramatic like. the whistle went shortly after confirming the true one result it's a pill for doc. and bitter pill. for us well they just didn't really seem to have their act together today and i think their performance was kind of summed up by the goal that they scored which was you know a rebound from missed penalty that really did seem to bring it all together in particular the defense was was not on form today they were all over the place italy could have scored more goals in fact they did score another 2 goals that were disallowed for offside let's talk about italy a bit as well though because obviously this result was not just about australia they hadn't been a world cup for 20 years before this i think they went under the radar for

a lot of people but a brilliant performance that i barbara on and say of course to the fore in that and certainly to me they look like they belong on the in the big stage fans and me not scotland an easy one not quite no this was another tight game between 2 old rivals of course england and scotland. expected to win they were the favorites but you know scotland have improved a lot in recent years and we can take a look at some of the goals and i think now it was a penalty actually they got enough mark here a little harsh maybe. he's part of the mind she smashed the harm to put england ahead and actually before half time alan white here beautiful finish i have to say pouncing on a loose ball in the box and look at this curling it just out of the keeper's range and inside the far post. lights on in the game they pull the go back through clay but it was england who held out for only the 2nd opening game victory that they've ever had at a world cup so an important one for england scotland i shouldn't feel too dejected
