this is data we can use live from for a limb huge protests in hong kong hundreds of thousands of people filled the streets to demand the repeal of a law that could see people extradited to mainland china to face charges also coming up. tens of thousands of venezuelans flocking to colombia after a bridge border of crossing reopens for the 1st time in months they're seeking food and medicine that's hard to come by and their crisis hit homeland. and the italians
10:01 pm
inflict some last minute pain on australia and the women's world cup the making for a perfect comeback after a 20 year absence from football's big stage. on the welcome to the show in hong kong clashes have erupted between police and demonstrators thousands of people rallied against a proposed extradition law and would allow suspects to be sent to mainland china to face trial critics of the bill fear that this could lead to arbitrary detention and unfair trials on kong was returned to china in 1970 but as kept its own justice system today march to the mark today's march is said to have been one of the largest and hong kong's history. for more on. i'm joined
10:02 pm
now by a glacier who is from the hong kong digital activism group keyboard front line and student who has organized rallies against this bill here in berlin glacier let's start with you you've been in contact with people in hong kong today who took part in the protest what did they tell you they told me that the situation it's not really good in hong kong a conflicts are still ongoing around 50 to 100 people are now surrounded by police and the district and one shy and they're now being sent to various police station and throughout the day there have been filing conflicts between the police and the protesters while the police are using the file and so again unarmed protesters they used the tons tear gas and pepper spray and there are photos that have shown that they are having guns on their carrying guns for. using against a protester be pursued is this deterring the protesters though are they planning to to keep fighting for this bill to go through i think some of them are deterred many
10:03 pm
of them are being triggered by the use of force and they are actually more angry and because already a 1000000 people have been on the streets but still the government have ignored it and said they were reviewing the 2nd reading of the bill anyways and people are mainly triggered saying that if a peaceful protest would not work they would they would have to be forced to use force against or more violent protest against the bill what's what's to be expected then i am not sure currently many around 50 to 70 people are being arrested and lawyers on the way to the police station to try to help them with their legal issues but we're not sure what will happen within today but we have heard that there are rumors of people organizing strikes on the 12th of june that we're not sure it would really happen yet. organized a rally today in berlin against this bill why do you feel so strongly about it because like nothing in the country like germany but what i see. home country
10:04 pm
what's happening and i feel like i'm a foreigner listening he. like the responsibility to bring this on in the national level that's why i'm doing this really. how is the response been here and germany so it's quite good actually is like 200 people show up and mostly like they are from whole call but also the germans as well who show up in the rally. leaders have said this bill would not lead to the extradition of the dissidents and critics of the chinese government but people obviously don't believe them why is that i think that just because obviously china it's a country without rule of law with a fair trial and within their targets record of human rights violation it is hard to believe that any individuals regardless of their nationality once being extradited back to china would be able to receive treatment and that is of enough respect for human rights and they are not going to face a fair trial and it is very dangerous even in hong kong we are losing our faith in
10:05 pm
the judicial system look at the reason to refugees from hong kong and now in germany right. out when the we can see that we have already lost a lot of faith in the judicial system let alone the chinese one. bonnie if this bill goes through do you think this will change the way you view your country or the x. community living outside of hong kong how they view their kind i think it will be a really hot this is. to go back because like then it will be way more dangerous to go back because like all freedom of speech is. affected thank you very much bonnie chang student living in berlin and glacier of qual activists living in hamburg thank you very much. tens of thousands of people have crossed venezuela's border with colombia after it reopened for the 1st time in 4 months on saturday and as islands made the journey to the neighboring country on flights desperate to buy food and medicine not available at home
10:06 pm
a crossing was closed in february and venezuelan president nicolas maduro request following a deepening political crisis opposition leader declared himself venezuela's interim president in january aren't doing that majoris reelection last year was illegitimate and. let's cross over now to our correspondent who is in the colombian capital bogota good to have you with us tell us what's been happening at the border since it reopened yesterday well the situation is pretty much under control despite the long queues the colombian authorities have also doubled down the efforts in order to ensure that there is a regular crossing between both countries authorities estimate that about 70000 people have crossed the border back and forth so far this is not necessarily mean that there is more people crossing the border but rather that there is less people crossing it legally and this means a big relief not only for those families who need the basic goods that you mentioned but also for the families in colombia who are dependent on sales of
10:07 pm
products toobin as well and let's not forget that is big business and lastly it's a big relief for colombian authorities they are trying to ensure to make every effort they can in order to ensure that there's crossing is regular and that there's a record of the people who are entering and leaving the country because every illegal border crossing that means big opportunity for crime and for smart. so we know what's behind one duros decision to reopen the border. well for that let's not forget why the border was closed in the 1st place maduro was trying to avoid humanitarian aid packages working nights to buy the venezuelan a position to enter the country through colombia that was the reason why he closed the border in the 1st place now about a week ago the colombian government announced that those humanitarian aid packages that could not enter the country because my door avoided it and that were stored in colombian territory ever since would now be distributed to venezuelans in colombia but there is no longer an effort to get that communitarian aid into venezuelan
10:08 pm
territory so that would explain the decision at least immediately however if we ask the colombian the venezuelan a position rather than as well in a position considers that this is a reaction to increase pressure from within the country because people are desperate to get food and medicines from colombia and even oil in the country with the biggest oil reserves in the world are these people actually crossing the border to get basic goods or are they set to leave the country for good. well i would say the most pressing situation right now is just to simply get food and medicine for the families back in venezuela so most people would actually get into the country and then get back into it as well and there is a special permission special pass if you will for those venezuelans living in border towns to get into colombian territory and to be in the province that is the border province to venezuela without any special requirements that is one of the
10:09 pm
efforts that the colombian authorities have taken in order to ensure that there is a regular process and a registered process for people crossing the border however of course there is a big influx of migrants there are trying to make a living here in colombia and to leave venezuela for good as well. just briefly if you can colombia has been taking and thousands of venezuelan refugees how's the country coping. well it is struggling for sure for every migrant there is about $300.00 of vailable in the budget for this crisis compare that to about $5000.00 that exist for syrian refugees so colombia needs international support in order to tackle this financially to vehicle i get out of there that's thank you very much. and kazakstan interim president casiño want to kayak has won the presidential election exit polls giving incumbent around 17 percent of the vote election day in the country was marred by the arrest of hundreds of peaceful
10:10 pm
protesters thank you's authorities of running a sham vote and was handpicked by longtime former leader in your sultana's are biased and opponents fear he will do little to bring change to the former soviet countries. earlier we spoke with journalist rates standish in kazakhstan's capital more salt on about the situation in the country the day was marked by these are the biggest protests the country's seen in 3 years people protesting against what they saw. you know pre-determined vote something that was i've been unfair alexion process and there was protests across the country a quite large and a large just were no month you would see the financial hub down in the south and north of palm beach county where i am. interior ministry said that around $500.00 people had been arrested by around the time polls close today including several journalists who were out there reporting on the protest. it's my understanding that
10:11 pm
the journalists are no relief for most of them although i haven't confirmed rolled back but many of the demonstrators who are protesting peacefully peacefully are still in detention the police when i was out on the screen today you know they're very forceful you know wearing black clad right here. they drag many protesters again going back is that where we are by loading them on they're waiting for them detained and our you know all doff jail so this is by far the most dramatic thing that we saw in terms of arrests in this whole election process but it also fits with what has been kind of simmering under the surface that have been the build up to the field which also saw a pretty systemic kind of crackdown on activists and other protesters. day 3 of the women's world cup and joining me to talk about all the action is ali moody from florence all you welcome in today's 1st match australia took on italy
10:12 pm
how did that one go yeah i expected a tight game here but i have to say i was still a little surprised by the outcome and that's because it's elite who were very much the underdogs going into the guy pulled off an excellent display to beat a very talented australia side now before i say anything else about it why don't we take a look at the highlights. australia were awarded an early penalty and a chance for a dream start captain samantha responsibility sloughing her lines 1st before slotting home the rebound. a heavy touch from defending clint poking home allowed italy's barbara been in syria a run i'm told in the 55th minute. the striker staying cool to draw her side level. with the game welling's injury time italy one of free kick. and been in c. i was under it again to score and hand her side
10:13 pm
a dramatic late winner. the whistle went shortly after confirming that she won results it's a pill to swallow for dark horses australia. a bitter pill indeed what went wrong for us daily well they just didn't really seem to have their act together today i mean i think their performance was kind of some number by the goal that they scored which was you know a rebound from missed penalty that it gets into your brain altogether in particular the defense was was not on form today they were all over the place it's only could have scored more goals in fact they did score another 2 goals that were disallowed for offside let's talk about italy a bit as well though because obviously this result was not just about australia they haven't been a world cup for 20 years before this i think they went under the radar for a lot of people but a brilliant performance today barbara on and say of course to the fore and not and certainly to me they look like they belong on the in the big stage and me not
10:14 pm
scotland an easy one not quite no this was another tight game between 2 old rivals of course england and scotland. were expected to win they were the favorites but you know scotland have improved a lot in recent years and we can take a look at some of the goals and i. now it was a penalty actually they got enough money here a little harsh maybe for the case paris didn't mind she smashed it hard to put england ahead and win double the lead actually before half time alan white here beautiful finish a half the site pouncing on a loose ball in the box and look at this curling it just out of the keeps reaching inside the far post. lights on in the game they pull the goldbach through. but it was england who held out for only the 2nd opening game victory that they've ever had at a world cup so an important one for england scotland shouldn't feel too dejected they met at the european championship in 27 teams are just 2 years ago and the result when 6 nil to england so they've come a long why in the last couple of years. sports thank you very much
10:15 pm
