it seems in 19 in women's play the results on the jellies celeb. player play oh. this is deja vu news live from berlin tense moments on the streets of hong kong police fired tear gas at protesters as authorities accuse them of rioting but demonstrators say they are defending the territory's freedom by opposing and unjust laws. also coming out the crackdown in moscow the russian police arrest demonstrators protesting in solidarity with investigative journalist even going up this comes one day after he

was released from custody. in soccer the reigning champion start off with a bang at the women's world cup it rained of goals for the american thanks of the tournament into a spin with a 13 goal master cut player. play . play. play. i'm sumi so much scott it's good to have you with us. police in hong kong a fired tear gas at protesters trying to stop a controversial proposal law that would allow extradition to mainland china the city's legislative council has postponed a planned debate on the law after crowds blocked access to government buildings hong kong officials have ordered the demonstrators to disperse but they say they are defending the territories freedom. from peaceful protest to violent chaos
2:02 pm
umbrellas become shields and weapons as demonstrators tried to fend off rubber bullets and tear gas fired by the police. tens of thousands of people came out to rally again today and protest against hong kong's controversial extradition bill a quiet march until tempers flare. like they're mostly dressed in black their faces covered with surgical masks and wearing makeshift body armor from the get go some in today's crowd seems ready for a different kind of protest than the largely peaceful mass demonstrations on sunday i would say it actually is the week car or farmer approach territory we do like for a. different way to work our way that's the only way that we got the right. having our say. they are worried about a proposed law that would mean hong kong could send people to mainland china to face trial critics warned that it would allow beijing to target political opponents
2:03 pm
in hong kong which retained its own justice system after being returned to china from british rule in 1997 undeterred by the outrage the territory's chief executive is promising to push forward with the legislation i do but i have not received any to instruction on mending from beijing to do dispute. we led doing the young student doing it. on shoes. and i'll come even to home. my commitment hardly reflected today at the legislative count. so were states remained empty as the schedule debate was postponed but with a legislature dominated by beijing loyalists few protesters expect the law to fail to vote on june 20th. on this leon know so. i'm quite disappointed and i don't think. they will listen to the people. there will still go ahead but i think there were people. they may have forced the legislators to delay the vote but for
2:04 pm
these protesters the struggle to preserve hong kong's autonomy has only just begun . earlier i spoke to did abuse my ts filling a in hong kong and i asked him about the clashes between protesters and police police have massively used tear gas to disperse the protests and to cordon off the area around let's go in the government buildings they are trying to drive out the protesters on this side of the city is house worked there are no more protesters around here. they wanted these protesters out they wanted to end these protests now whether they this would put an end to the the protests i jotted people are really angry here and it seems momentum is growing mathias now this extradition bill debate in the legislative council it has been delayed what does it actually mean is it a victory for the protests or really just a delay. well during the day people have the feeling it was
2:05 pm
a small victory but nobody had the illusion that the government would back down or reconsider this bill that they would have really achieved something it was a small punch through victory by blocking off the legislative council. blocking. the discussion inside so the americans could not come inside the government is determined to push this through against probably a majority of hong kong as we have seen the largest demonstration in 30 years on sunday a big part of society is roughly against this bill this did not have any impression on the government so probably 2 days of protests will neither. that was material spilling or speaking to us there and we have to be reporter ceri chan with us she's from hong kong is also been following the story for us terry thanks for joining us
2:06 pm
why are we seeing such an outcry on the streets of hong kong yes so basically hong kong currently doesn't have an extradition arranged then with china and. with this amendment of the new law instead of suspects it's allowed. to go to china and many critics fear that it would mean they lose their freedom of speech and if. they. yeah that they would lose the freedom of speech where they're worried about china's control in hong kong they have their own judicial system they think this is going to affect that we are seeing such a large number of people on the streets and we should say that hong kong also saw huge pro-democracy protests 5 years ago that was the umbrella movement how are these protests different so in 2014 when there was and you really see a very clear generation that they fight by then mainly young people and students will go out to protest and you will also hear
2:07 pm
a lot of. discussions between young people and their parents and they said there will be a lot of documents and basically the older generation they didn't support that protest but then this time in this protest the goal is really clear and it's also really clear that. the whole society is supporting this protests and they just don't want this law to pass and so you really see the united and the 2nd difference is also that in 2014 people went on the streets and they think that there may be some changes and they would hope that the government would listen to them and change their mind but then this time many people actually didn't think about what they could do they just want to they just said that they want to do something that they think is right regardless of if they results they don't believe that they can actually change this law yeah many people say many people are trying not to ask
2:08 pm
this question they just want to go out and have their voice heard tell us more about how hong kong has changed over the last few years yes so as i said because in 2014 not really concrete outcomes not many concrete outcomes have been achieved and so after that some people really feel a bit hopeless and you feel this fear of. people being a political and trying not to in the. faming politics so much and they discuss less about this and and this protest with $1000000.00 people coming out to the streets almost a rebirth they feel. they are and they hope i came to the right really interesting cherry chan our reporter thank you so much for your insights now in russia police have detained dozens of people at a moscow rally in solidarity with investigative journalist even go enough
2:09 pm
protesters are calling for the punishment of police officers who were involved in gold enough alleged framing and police mistreatment while in custody now the rally comes a day after gold was released from police detention due to a lack of evidence. of walked out of police custody a free man early tuesday evening i think supporters outside the interior ministry and vowed to continue his work exposing corruption. that would be run everything is fine i still need a bit to gather my wits i don't have to work very hard now to show that your faith in me is justified thank you for that. you are. right one of. those supporters had been protesting at the ministry since news of goa most of the rest broke on friday one person pickets don't have to be authorized in advance so protesters took turns holding signs calling for even calling off to be freed.
2:10 pm
3 major newspapers also joined the protests each running the same headline in monday's additions declaring we are. most because i didn't there are several prominent media personalities also criticizing the circumstances of the rest. because of this the owns in my. in court on saturday golan off insisted he was innocent and that the police planted the drugs on him his lawyers said the fingerprints weren't on any of the items police seized and that go enough had been beaten in custody and denied a lawyer for more than 12 hours. police released several photos that seem to show a drug lab call an office home they later admitted only one of those photos was actually taken at the journalists apartment. go enough is well known for exposing corruption medusa to the let you have based news website he works for was preparing to publish his latest reporting on russia's crime ridden funeral industry go enough the rest seems to have hit a nerve yes well just as. there is
2:11 pm
a demand for justice in society because this case is not just about you but it concerns many citizens who could end up in the same situation it is no secret that police often break the law in situations like this. in a turnaround it's those law enforcement agencies that are now coming under scrutiny . the interior ministry has opened an investigation into the officers who arrested called off and they have asked president putin to fire 2 senior moscow police officials. let's bring in our correspondent emily sure when she's standing by at a demonstration in solidarity with the north in central moscow hi emily so people as we said gathering in solidarity with the journalists today but there have also been a number of people detained to tell us what's happening around you. well actually just now sumi here at
2:12 pm
a square where people are still gathering people are being kind of still arrested left and right just now i was standing here and someone was literally taken off this small wall that i'm standing on and arrested apparently according to reports more than 90 people have been arrested in total but that looks number looks looks set to rise the protesters were peacefully marching along the boulevards here in moscow and the police was kind of trying to block their path as they went to clear demonstrators there telling people to clear this area as well as the protesters not officially authorized ok it's not officially authorized but it comes a day after the knobs was released why was he released so suddenly yesterday. well 1st of all the evidence that there was against going off was kind of shaky from the beginning we just heard that in the piece but there was also huge public
2:13 pm
pressure over the weekend and continuing into this week there were protesters gathering outside outside the interior ministry 3 newspapers came out with matching front covers in solidarity with the journalist so there was really a huge amount of of public pressure around this case and that public pressure here is continuing as well today people here are saying yes well enough was released but there are a lot. other people still behind bars that were arrested. for political reasons as they say and people said look we have to come out they were telling me this case would go in off this with a release was really just a drop in the ocean and we have to do more all right so they want to keep up the public pressure at the same time as you said there's been a number of arrests at this demonstration so could this case actually have an impact on how the russian government deals with these types of cases in the future . well yes and no there has been some discussion
2:14 pm
about perhaps softening drug laws here in russia the parliament here has said that they will be discussing that going forward at the moment it's rather easy to kind of put a bag of drugs in someone's bag and then say that and then charge them for drugs possession drug possession and that can mean that someone goes behind bars for up to 20 years so there will be some discussion about those that legislation yesterday there was a real saw of release that was powerful in russia civil society after the release of. the signal here seems to have changed rather radically today with these huge arrests perhaps a signal from the kremlin to russia's civil society as well. sure when reporting there for us in moscow bring us up to date thank you emily. now to some other stories making headlines around the world former u.k.

terrible it's hard to imagine that. kind of. you know. just because you have different groups doesn't mean you're different as a person everyone can be good or bad it depends on the person and not on what culture or religion a person belongs to. for years the number of anti-semitic incidents has been rising in german schools history teacher bad lindemann wants to raise awareness of the issue although one can school has had few problems there have been anti semitic insults and graffiti here. people often apply concepts such as using the word jew as an insult that are used in a completely on differentiated way and in an ignorant way. i think that by raising awareness people or the students get a feel for what anti-semitism even means what the consequences are of words origins lived or diversity for example he was a family and that is the name of anne frank remembrance so that history does not

collect plastic which is then recycled. there are more than 150000000 tonnes of plastic in the ocean. this year the environmental photo festival horizons in seeing stone the german coast focused its attention on the environment under threat the. macro to gaza had these are certain oddly enough this kind of horror also has a strange fascination for me we're like hunters on the lookout for these moments because we know these images are triggers that every human being can understand emotionally it's a value. for his project heroes of the sea oh this is documenting the work of those fighting against the destruction of our oceans this was with the conservation organization sea shepherd for 4 weeks off the coast of west africa documenting overfishing and senseless torture. to live

to defending champion to us played their 1st game at the women's world cup last night and published fully aaliyah's this year to give us some analysis of that game high public and i think it's safe to say that the u.s. lived up to expectations they lived up to expectations to me and surpassed them by 13 times i would say like 13 now is. the score at the end but again only real it's pretty embarrassing for thailand and also pretty to marlise and obviously for the team but before we actually have a chat about it we'll say in detail i think we should take a look at the report. when star striker alex morgan noted us saints the lead off to just 12 minutes silence fans had every right to be concerned by a bruising haul followed before morgan made it 5 new to the usa in the 52nd minutes by i and she completed her hat trick amid a flurry of usa goals to make it i feel almost 70 full for minutes. but she wasn't
2:23 pm
done yet some excellent wing play from megan rapinoe gave morgan another golden chance in the 81st minute 10 billie's time by i and she bagged a 5th in the 87th but seems 12 and 13 would follow soon after i got the final whistle morgan was the 1st to come so. broken opposition a stunning display of ability and sportsmanship from one of women's biggest names. pretty dim our lives in their fertile land but it's always nice to see sportsmanship like that i mean the difference with the champions of course. the united states and thailand is stark you know the united states are a team that are solid they've got big players you know it's quite common for people to watch the women's game in the united states and you can you know what we need to see is for that difference to to to narrow considerably and we are seeing that in

the game so hopefully in the years to come we won't be seeing so many 13 year olds in the tournament yet that is a pretty lopsided result there was another group game where the weather took a toll on that take tell us about that as you know sumi here berlin we had a pretty wild night last night and the night before heavy storms lightning and so on it looks like our neighbors over in france are also suffering from similar storms and we saw that because in the sweden vs chile game in fact the game have to be postponed because of stormy conditions we're just seeing the images here in the city of ran it was delayed at minute 70 the referee ordered the players to ease the field goal when things. the players got back onto the pitch we saw sweden take a late. she scored in the 83rd minute and then. smashed home a stunning solo goal to seal a 2 nil win for sweden and a great result for them and i was the not great for chile you know not great for
2:25 pm
chile but germany today tell us what to look for there now everybody here in germany is waiting for this game as a spaniard as well have to say that everyone in spain is very excited about this game because you know 2 big sporting nations 2 big teams and of germany compared to spain in the women's game are far better and they have been in recent years steyn in many respects you know to catch up. they have been even said it has even been said that their dark horse is actually going into this tournament because there has been a huge difference in the past say 4 years since the last tournament in the game in spain but what we've seen in germany is you know great players are going to be taking a look definitely at 19 year old julia given she scored in germany's match against china and that was not an easy game for germany by no means they really suffered quite a lot at the match and in fact it was quite funny hearing from kathleen hendry thoughts of germany defender she said i don't think there's a single player with
2:26 pm
a bruise and going down on to spain like i said dark horses the game has really improved their impre in recent years in fact it's changed so much the majority of the players in the team now play into big teams in spain have let it go madrid and barcelona barcelona were in the champions league final they didn't win it but you know there's there's been a big drive as well for people to to follow the game and in fact spain holds the record as well now for the number of people who've gone into a stadium in madrid to watch a women's game so that's good news for the game there so a lot of people will be watching that germany and spain probably us from for thanks for bringing us up to date. and a reminder in our for our top story that we're following for you police in hong kong a fire a cure gas at the protesters demonstrating against a controversial law that would allow extradition to mainland china lawmakers have postponed debate on the bill authorities are urging demonstrators to go home but
