a highly flammable petroleum product and the panama listed koku courageous carrying methanol were both allegedly targeted in iranian waters here the strategic strait of homos a conduit for a 5th of all global oil consumption. it's all made iranian news outlets it local search and rescue teams have picked up 44 sailors from the front before it sank in the gulf of oman but the vessels norwegian owner says the tanker remains afloat. confusion about the situation prevails and now we can authorities have called on its ships in the region to exercise extra caution shortly after the suspected attack boil prices soared jumping as much as 4 percent highlighting how crucial the area remains to global energy supplies. today's incident in the gulf of oman is reminiscent of a similar episode last month in which 4 ships were damaged in an alleged sabotage attack off the emirates. daniel

gala is the editor in chief of the zenith middle east magazine and he joins us for some analysis in our studio hi daniel thank you what are we talking about here you know how serious is this incident i think it is a very serious incident these kinds of operations and obviously it's not an accident these kinds of operations either conducted by whatever special forces of state actors or terrorist organizations nobody has claimed this attack of course but. it is possible that terrorists or criminal organizations might want to benefit from what looks like of course the rain and. the special forces operation maritime operation i have no evidence and no reason to speculate that that's what it is but there are many players in the region that could benefit from such an escalation from iran standing accused and a possible act of retribution there is one point that i want to highlight. the

japanese prime minister was in tehran to. suggest that he would negotiate mediate between the united states and iran and according to our information both ships were on their way to japan so that is a very peculiar coincidence i don't know if somebody is trying to send a political message here or if it's just coincidence but what is also important to mention is that this attack was designed in a way that apparently would not blow up those ships that would not cause a large amount of fatalities so i don't know if that is coincidence or if it's also again a message to say we don't blow up the ships but we harm it so what does that mean i mean who is sending this message it seems really unclear at this point but who are the actors who would profit or benefit as you said from making it look like iran might be behind this well 1st of all of course it could be that iranian. there's absolutely i mean iran has said the u.s. are trying to suffocate our economy they're trying to to to to block our exports last month they have increased their the pressure on the sanctions so if we can export oil out of the strait of hormuz nobody should and the region would not be
4:05 pm
safe but at the same time the iranian government at the moment is at a crucial moment politically also to rally international support for its position to stand stem the tide of the economics of occasions so i think this would be a very very stupid thing to do for the iranians but as i mentioned they are the hottest organizations in the region criminal organizations people that speculate on the oil markets and of course virtually every power including the russians the saudis they mean iraqis the iranians the israelis everybody every power in the region is technically capable of conducting such an operation he said it is a very serious incident where are things headed with tensions really running high in the region. well of course the worst case scenario would be that evidence for iran that evidence is presented that this was an iranian operation as has been suggested in previous months and that. the united states and its vision of lies would pose an ultimate and and threaten rich abused in the military operation of course. iran would not answer on the same level because they don't have the

military capacities but they could answer in a symmetrical way of warfare but let's not again speculate about who is behind this let's wait for evidence and for an international international investigation into the case right daniel dear like editor in chief of the zenith middle east magazine thank you so much for joining us thanks for that you're not the thank you now to some other stories making headlines around the world the british government has approved the extradition of wiki leaks founder julian assange to the united states a songes lawyers are expected to challenge the decision which could pave the way for a lengthy appeal process a sanchez wanted in the u.s. for leaking classified material in 2010. former british prime minister boris johnson has overwhelmingly won the 1st round of conservative party voting for the next party leader and prime minister he goes through to the next round the 6 others a bunch of hard liners about to leave the u.k. out of the european union. in hong kong protest leaders have announced another mass

rally for saturday this after lawmakers again delayed a debate over a new bill that would make judicial extraditions to mainline mainland china easier protests against the bill have brought the city to a standstill residents fear the law will erode civil liberties. and a severe cycle and that's very impasse in india as western coast is set to lash coastal areas with heavy winds rain and waves cycling by you had been due to strike the state of gujarat head on today but it changed course and is unlikely to make landfall. a leading medical research organization is calling the current outbreak of ebola in the democratic republic of congo truly frightening the u.k. based welcome trust says the epidemic is the worst since 2016 and shows no signs of stopping the world health organization is considering whether to declare the outbreak a global emergency the disease has spread to a uganda where 2 people including a 5 year old boy have now died. a border can stop
4:08 pm
a virus but uganda nothe already is are trying 3 cases have been registered in the country is the 1st known crossed borders spread since an outbreak began in the neighboring democratic republic of congo in last august fears are growing that this might only be the beginning. one. break in that you have to see it's still going on and by today we have over 2000 confirmed cases and so the probability over more cases or singled out from the d.r.s. into uganda these very high. in full is a new. to uganda the country has seen 5 al brakes of the disease since the year 2000 it has now stepped up efforts to contain the virus screening every person coming in from the eastern d r c the government is also deploying an experimental ebola vaccine for health care workers along the border we are very close. that many

more people coming to support that response and this may be more people will not be boxing me and so will try to push out of the box in that one again more. frontline hill to our cause other work us unring bucks the nation for the contacts because of past successes in combating the disease uganda is widely regarded as being at the forefront of the fight against involucre but faced with the most recent cases many ugandans feel uneasy and wish their country did more to educate citizens about the virus the government does not done enough to surprise people about it because i think they're up in origin it should have started the from the rural areas but you know when people have the symptoms they want to hide on in the mix with a great opportunity of which no spritz davies's to to wipe out the area of room
4:10 pm
service cause i haven't seen a symptom over the water but they seem to go i'm unsure due to sure newstand says people are both doing seem to have gone from it if you see you guys but i know you mean this we are new to see you. tomorrow the world health organization is set to decide whether it be a bowl outbreak now that it has transcendent the d r c should be declared an international health emergency or at a troubling situation there we can speak to alan mcdonald from save the children in uganda he joins us from kampala alan can you give us more details about the situation right now in congo and in uganda where you are. i think so as was said in your report there's been an outbreak of cholera in congress now for illegal merced to see movement 2000 cases hundreds of them children and move 1300 deaths this is the 1st time it's spread across the border into uganda so
4:11 pm
people here are obviously very worried in the ugandan we have 3 confirmed cases in syria the majority dying 5 year old boy and his grandmother visit another 3. very young here is currently being treated and these are all in the west of uganda the congolese border. and they're all from the same family here who recently came back from congo most people cross the border back and forth to see relatives go to markets and so there's a lot of reasons of this a lot of screening at the border place but now that we have this the government is really stepping up the response to focus on stopping his spreading further and say we need a lot more education and community vaccinations for health workers and so on to stop it spreading allan how would you compare this outbreak to the last big outbreak of ebola in western africa and that you have 13 and 14 and onwards.
4:12 pm
well this is different the biggest every since then been such where it is on a smaller scale with. fewer cases and so on but it shows no sign of ending and now that it's crossed the border potentially it could also cause into other countries in the region this is really the time to act to make sure that it doesn't grow into a crisis of the scale that we saw western africa it was a very different kind of context the congo has one of the worst conflicts in the world which makes it very difficult to respond to. uganda hosting one of the largest number of refugees in the world and it's all communities and explain to them what is going on and how it can be prevented all right allan macdonell from save the children in uganda thank you so much for sharing your insights with us today. now mediators are stepping up efforts to end the standoff between military rulers and their civilian opponents in sudan protesters called off their general
4:13 pm
strike and campaign of civil disobedience earlier this week and agreed to fresh talks with the army protesters say over 100 people were killed in a brutal crackdown last week and they are demanding international guarantees to ensure any deal with the army is actually up held. green meant needs to include you know international guarantees. and. we're only prepared to discuss an agreement. of the civil government. you know without discussion of any other issue of. because now the us has appointed a new special envoy to promote a democratic resolution to sudan's political crisis veteran diplomat donald booth is in khartoum along with the u.s. top envoy for africa. they are holding meetings with the transitional military government and key figures of the protest movement they will then fly on to addis
4:14 pm
ababa to meet with the ethiopian prime minister and senior officials at the african union who are also men of course since the crackdown on june 3rd where that we we saw the brutal crackdown on the sit in and hard to communication with people on the ground in sudan has been extremely difficult the government has cut the internet completely and actually one of the military council members has said that they might be turning on the internet now might be a national security threat so it doesn't seem like that is going to change anytime soon it's hard to get what people are thinking on the ground but i have been able to reach some of the protesters that i have met back back in may there is there seems to be a sort of disillusionment or disappointment in the way that the opposition the freedom the freedom the f.f.c. the alliance of opposition has negotiated this they had initially announced that the strike which they had suspended would last for tomorrow to friday but in the statement in which they called for. 4 for the end of the strike there was there was
4:15 pm
a feeling among the protesters that i've been able to talk to of of them basically compromising with the military that now the military somehow has the upper hand of course as we mentioned 100 people have have been killed and there's also a frustration. that their blood so to speak has not been given enough attention and there weren't enough calls of accountability for the people that have died yesterday they had a list of names of the of the victims of the 100 murdered victims was published on social media and of course people are now reading their names and getting a little bit about their lives and the frustration is growing i would say. and we've been able to talk to one of the protestors let's let's see what they had to say. they had everything. with their weapons and their orders to kill to rape to loot. they do whatever they want. nobody will ever question. your government. so there seems to
4:16 pm
be in a way almost a rift between the protesters and the leadership at this point so that doesn't really bode well for negotiations or where do you see negotiations going from here it's hard to tell as you said the united states has now appointed a special convoy the african union's involved there's an ethiopian mediator involved the opposition forces the freedom of change alliance has said that they will not directly communicate with the military council but they will only do so with the involvement of a mediator with that being said i think the entire wave of violence in the strike has been the very 1st big stress test for the opposition because it's and it's not a unified alliance it's made out of $21.00 different groups it's an umbrella group the most prominent which is the sudanese professionals association which has spearheaded the movement but you also have women's rights movement so then republican party or the communist party or even youth movements and it remains to
4:17 pm
be seen with this frustration if this alliance actually continues to be united for the longest time their leverage was the sit in khartoum they had they had occupied this physical space that space now is gone and if they start eating up at each other because of disagreements there's no saying what will happen on the ground in sudan. or he reporting on sudan for us thank you so much and now this week marks the 20th anniversary of the end of the war in kosovo in which the small state in south eastern europe broke away from serbia thousands of people were killed in the fighting including many children now the humanitarian law center of kosovo in the capital pristina is remembering the war's youngest victims with a special exhibition called once upon a time and never again. these children knew nothing of weapons exodus or destruction how people home each other. but then the war ended their world
4:18 pm
a war that brutally ended the lives of many people. and exhibits and prishtina remembers the children who were killed in the course of a war 20 years ago. to this day those 9 monuments almost specials dates to on of these lost children we think it's very important that all those who lost their lives so disappeared back and will not be forgotten that's why we chose this way to remember them as locals will no. more than 1000 children were killed during the war and this exhibition every one of the young victims is named also on display a personal keepsakes that parents held onto momentos associated with grief and pain many mothers and fathers welcome the idea that the public can now take part in understanding this tragedy. said that it was another not that i have
4:19 pm
a need to share that story and they want for what happened to be shine or that it doesn't say this country's institutions have so far done nothing in the sense that is a decision is that of yet must. i think that after 20 is we as a society need to process what this country went through when you said that it never happens again. that the city the. armed conflicts in kosovo began in 1998 the war lasted a year and a half hundreds of communities were devastated the past impacts people's lives to this day including this visitors back then his mother fled with him to germany that's why he finds the sad fate of those who stayed behind in kosovo particularly moving this of them for sure and so it is definitely a good idea to have an exhibition like this so that what we went through during the war can be seen and how the poor innocent children died that's definitely moving.
4:20 pm
in the congo it's important for it to be shown and that you can also see how lucky you actually are to be alive today to live and went on. 20 years after the wars and many people in kosovo still live with wounds some that may never heal. the exhibit in pristina is not attempt to deal with the pain and an urgent call for peace. now the 5 g. network is the new standard for mobile communications it's up to $100.00 times as fast as previous networks germany's been lagging behind but now berlin has auction the frequencies for its a 5 g. network and made an impressive profit. launch 13 weeks ago the clock was stopped on wednesday the auction for 5 g. frequencies is over the corporation's dortch a telecom telefonica vodafone and net
4:21 pm
a subsidiary of 1900 internet have paid a total of 6600000000 euros your forum is the oldest do you feel very pleased that the 4 companies that have acquired the frequencies are now able to quickly drive the 5 g. network expansion competition kernan the new mobile radio standard 5 g. will be able to transmit data around a 100 times faster than its predecessor 40 and it will do it almost instantaneously decisive for example for autonomous driving or industry digitalisation large corporations like b a s f even want to set up their own networks using 5 g. independent of the mobile network operators for example trucks will use 5 g. to drive autonomous lee with the billions from the auction the german state wants to expand high speed internet into rural areas and promotes the digitalisation of schools for private use in germany 5 g. will probably be available in 2021 at the earliest and he won't be nationwide until
4:22 pm
some time after that. the women's world cup starts some heavyweight games on wednesday published fully at least from date of use for it is worth to take us through this published in germany took on spain a game a lot of people were looking at and germany did prevail but it wasn't smooth sailing no it was far from smooth sailing actually and germany seems to have struggled a little bit so far despite the fact that they actually did beat spain in this match but spain did. dominate possession through right but germany has this really solid defense and then obviously they now have to score goals but before we actually talk a little bit more i think what we need to do is to look at the report. germany without injured star midfielder jennifer were under pressure again spain who created more chances early on but shortly before the break germany applied their own pressure off the cross alexander pops header popped out inside the approach was there to pick up the pieces giving germany
4:23 pm
a one goal lead. after the restart germany kept up the momentum pop again with the header but this time the keeper kept hold. despite spain having the lion's share of the ball they couldn't crack the germany defense a late appeal for a pivotal t.v. was turned down. we are really happy to have picked up this very important 3 points it took a lot of energy and we had a lot of luck in the opening few minutes with the way in germany now topped the group with 6 points and our all good through. that's a great result for them indeed that 14 games they are unbeaten this is germany of course and they have yet to lose against spain after 5 meetings so solid squad and they have a very good chance of going the whole way in this tournament right looking good for germany what about the other games yesterday the hosts were on the field that's right france of course now believe it or not to france or actually i'm sorry there's no doubt it is according to the team coach. she said and also many experts
4:24 pm
have actually even said that france are a team to watch and they packed the stadium in nice 35000 fans were there to watch their game and the game against norway did go their way in fact they won 21 on the oped the scoring was started by violet he goes but then the french quickly turned to shock to me because then he ran our managed to steer the ball into our own and a penalty was then awarded to france after a video review and. fired and so good result for them but it was also not smooth either but they picked up what they needed to do and they're now topping group tell us about another match in the same group nigeria taking on south korea what happened there that's right now nigeria defeated says korea to mail in kind old list so they recorded their 1st win of the campaign so a great result for them and it was a game that certainly had plenty of instance we've seen that quite a lot actually in this tournament so far played very exciting to watch and this
4:25 pm
time it was. because we'll say a moment for kim young who will definitely not be forgetting this very clearly she attempted a clearance wrong footed her own goalkeeper and basically gifted nigeria the lead in the 29th minute now she really will not be hoping to receive that too often and then i geria sad osho out of put the game to bed in the 2nd half to know it was the final score so good result for nigeria counts as korea all right what can we look for today big games today a straight need to win and they lost their opening game against italy that was a big shock and they're going to be taking on brazil and then in the other big game today south africa and china will be going head to head that both teams lost their opening games and they really really need to win so excited much just watch all right pablo foley is from to the sports in the women's world cup thank you people thanks who me. and did the news asia with the responder g coming right up.
