well this week in her wonderful musings on the idiosyncrasies of germans and life in germany my colleague rachel stuart is talking about english words that the germans use incorrectly now there are quite a few of these that make us english speakers scratch our heads and don't be surprised or even shocked when you hear a word that would usually get bleeped in english television coverage now here goes with meet the germans. anglicanism are all over the place in germany failed in some nation a point that it's. no everyone is happy about these linguistic invaders particularly if a perfectly good german already exists but surely even worse already more bizarre is the use of english words that even native english speakers when understand. here is

an english word that the germans use wrongly. that kick off with a classic example. in english handy means useful in german this is a handy i mean you do hold it in your hand but by that logic this would be a handy and this would be a handy. this is a great one is a little bit morbid public viewing in jet lots of people gathering public space what something with the big 3 beautiful. public viewing in english visiting a dead person has been laid out and. flexible working is all the rage right now and that means not necessarily being in the office all the time while in english you would say i'm working from home the preferred expression in germany is my home office all are by the home office and in the u.k.

whom office means something different entirely about the government department what the reason may be is to work. in english wellness means the state of being well but it's not exactly a word you hear in conversation very often but in german wellness is a very popular word it's a sort of catch all term for this bar for her master's experience. there obama held offering wellness packages maybe even a particularly healthy wellness menu. the germans earl love a good shit storm not in the general enlistments of the less the or unpleasant situation but in the very specific jensen's of a social media backlash and in the medical and even casual drop this word on more than one occasion should storm much to the shock of the english language media. as well as about one will be back soon with more english words the germans use wrongly you then.
10:52 am
so here's a fun fact the word shitstorm has actually made it into the german equivalent of the oxford english dictionary and that would be the do and as soon as a word is included there well it's frequent use in conversation is of course more than justified so hopefully we'll have no shitstorm over the fact that we featured it here today. well as if berlin didn't get enough flak for its never ending airport project which continues to defy completion more than 7 years after its originally planned opening and now we have a delay on the cultural front the humboldt berlin is one of the city's most ambitious building projects as it involves the partial reconstruction of the former palace that belonged to the dynasty of kings. it was built to house a series of museums that will focus on world cultures anthropology and ethnology and was supposed to open this fall but due to some technical issues it's been

postponed until next spring. but even if the whole thing is still under construction it's just acquired its 1st object for display namely the giant metal entrance door to a legendary techno club from post fall of the wall berlin and it's a door with a history as turbulent as that of the city itself. in the early ninety's probably in techno music nights that went on forever one club set the tone legendary world famous. name which means paul german was well chosen the dance floor was once the fault of the department store. door that once marked the entrance to berlin's tech no temple now has pride of place in this otherwise barren exhibition space organizers are doing their best to hype the importance of this metal portal. for us this is what the bust of negativity is for the egyptian museum might even use the words mona lisa.

the door also tells the story of berlin in the 1920 s. it sealed off the treasures of the vast time department store in leipsic or plots at the time one of the most luxurious cathedral city capitals. when the nazis came to power they forced their times jewish owners to sell the store was area nies some of the family escaped into exile 3 were murdered at auschwitz. the store's owner that time died in berlin in 1939 after decades of legal wrangling leave that time descendants finally receive compensation in 2017. for a younger generation however this store is a symbol of the new global germany that emerged following greenough occasion in 1990. 1 time does up. and says it wasn't just east and west coming together it was also black and white there was this incredible inspiring energy coming from all these people coming together it changed the whole idea of for lives suddenly it
