this is deja news africa coming up in the next 15 minutes sudan's opposition movement it's brave and determined thousands across the country again mobilized and protested despite internet distractions and death threats max all they care is the civilian dead governments they are demanding. and the woman putting the brakes on gender bias and say any girl will take you under the hood into cars only female run auto workshop. do differ from theirs i am really proud to be able to do a man's job i am so proud when i see a vehicle that doesn't what i know how to fix and now my big dream is to have my own company to get our own business. i'm christine wonderwall come to deja news africa i'm glad you're cheated in all
7:03 am
hopes office of 1000000000 dead government in sudan fading before we look for answers to that question it's look at the events that led praja mark racine supposes to defy the ruling generals yesterday marked the 50th anniversary of the coup that brought president bashir to poly in sudan the army ousted him in april off to months of demonstrations so what's changed since then sunday was also the deadline set by the african union force a dunce military council to hand over control to civilians that came and went and negotiations are at a standstill a month ago on june the a brutal crackdown on thousands camped outside the army his forces left schools of protesters did. now the pressure is just off back off to deadly clashes at the weekend on sunday hundreds of thousands of people again took to the streets demanding the military hand of a control to civilians all right i'm now joined by my colleague
7:04 am
a ybor him welcome back to the africa a of the demand on the part of the protest on the part of the opposition leaders is a civilian government for the next 3 is the fall there's a general election looking at where we are today how realistic is that outcome that's very hard to tell because at this point especially if we look at the exchanges between the military transitional council and the civilians in the past couple of days doesn't seem like either side is really ready to come back to the table since the violence of june 3rd since the crackdown on the sit in in front of the army headquarters negotiations have sort of fallen completely the 2 sides are not communicating directly they're communicating if you pin and african union media tonight so you know my sense is that the question is perhaps it's unclear if they're even willing to come to the table let alone. talk about breakdown between military and civilian on the council they had had reached
7:05 am
a kind of agreement before this violence but the military had even announced that it was stropping all of the points of agreement that the negotiations had reached at that point so it's unclear exactly what's going on there ok you talked about the you and we know that yesterday a deadline set by the way you pawson this was a deadline for the military a transitional council to appoint a civilian government what are the implications of missing that deadline we know that as it stands saddam has been suspended from the body because of what happened on the june 30th but what is this what is this missing the did i mean essentially i mean the aid has not come out and said an official sort of. opinion as to what the consequences are but we can assume that the suspension then still stands and that sudan's membership. will still continue to be suspended however it doesn't seem like sudan is necessarily bothered by this the military council does have regional support from other countries egypt saudi arabia the u.a.e. and it seems that at the moment the country is really caught up with this this is
7:06 am
now basically just a crisis and how to get out of this sort of like it's a brick wall yeah it's heating that pickle it's complex you have because you have you've got the military that the often so talk about you also have what they call the the rapid support forces right so these sort of 2 powers just explain the dynamic and what the implications for what's going on in the country right now so it's difficult to do for a for sort of western viewers to to to really just so the rapid support forces are essentially a paramilitary force that up until 2015 were really part of the government these have their roots and. militias that the al bashir regime had used in darfur to essentially crack down on the insurgencies there and experts have been warning for years that these militias and the power that they're reaching it's centrally a ticking time bomb in sudan so in 2015 around that time bashir
7:07 am
actually then upgraded as a militia into a paramilitary force called the rapid rapid support forces and he at the time make sure that they would be sometimes under the command of the military but sometimes under the command of the national security apparatus as well and they were sort of his enforcers of the you know when it became clear that bashir was not going to stand him or the iraq that support forces and they're neither has turned against turn against bashir so that's why their needs are really with the question whose interest is the military council really protecting is its own the people or the rapid support forces because these 3 things are not always the same ok as always thank you. our next story is in senegal way a female run workshop is breaking down gender barriers and fixing cars at the same time called the workshop was founded by a woman who is
7:08 am
a passionate mechanic that's inspiring other women to pick up the specter. this is no ordinary to a retail workshop in the heart of a car discourage is run by a woman employs women and trains aspiring female mechanics. has run her own car workshop since 2006 and isn't interested in any stereotypes. because of past 26 years she has been getting her hands dirty working on engines a mechanic a muslim or a woman with unshakable self belief but it's been a bumpy wrote. back in the day everybody pointed at me everybody thought i was crazy every time i went out on the streets trusting my overalls to go fix
7:09 am
a car or buy pots everybody was laughing at me and often have a cry and then carry on now i am considered i'm shown as a good example. chicken or a fix in part all of the women working here were inspired by homebuyers to learn how to fix cars but there are only 3 females who are time mechanics year and most of this film made in the future she wants are targeted seem to be women making sure that the big girls are running smooth. some young women mechanics working once they get married others prefer jobs that are less physically demanding. but there are those who see this work as a great way of being financially independent. fed defacto me i'm really proud to be able to do a man's job and i am so proud when i see
7:10 am
a vehicle that doesn't whack and i know how to fix it now my big dream is to have my own company and it's also quba stream she always pushes us to get our in business so. they in combusts workshop is never short of business. i really trust them with my car it's reassuring to see women taking care of everything and it's easy to communicate with them i believe we'll see more and more women mechanics. but with the current industry seeing repeat growth all sinegal is drivers ready to have the vehicles fixed by women. in the world works like this now there is no longer a profession dedicated only to men or profession dedicated only to women. since the concept of parity exists there are no more do not enter signs for women.
7:11 am
know more about persevere mark cutifani. honestly i pity them its hard work i respect their choice but i can that women fix my car for sure. even though there is still a long way to go here at ota farm they will keep fighting for a few now they can mix to be considered the norm in same legal. ok so african unity what does that mean many countries on the continent struggle with division along ethnic and religious lines in nigeria a group of dances are promoting african unity by celebrating african culture my colleague funny a child met up with them in lagos. man is not a book if. it's not a bad. thing as one of nigeria's traditional dances and brandon is
7:12 am

7:13 am
division in tribal ethnicity in the way to speak our religion be given together still fighting each other you have to unite unity and that was one promise from president obama. when he won reelection earlier this year people here think there's too much dividing nigerians made you run from iraq war you know so let's love each other by love and you try bad job you need someone good because of almost a month people lie by big you have more than. 50 tribes you understand so is so difficult. jennifer again as she's getting ready to compete at the festival her backstage message is simple. but. the bad bad roll of the nation and it.
7:14 am
