republic of congo's ne in the early 2006 observers say tens of thousands of people suffered under his command human rights watch documented some of their stories. i was 11 years old we were playing when bosco took on the soldiers abducted us and took us to him. we were tortured to toughen us up. he was brutal to me. allies me by raping me and despite an international arrest warrant to gondo went on to become a general in the congolese army yet he lost power and in 2013 he surrendered himself to the i.c.c. to gondor now awaits sentencing he faces up to 30 years in prison. ok more on this from the island i have been known to from much human rights watch

which provided the interviews with take on this victims as you saw in that report shows a visit to eastern congo investigating for the i.c.c. welcome to d.w. you must be pleased with this result. very much in fact today is a very important day for for justice today at the verdict against foss going to get and that really provides finally provide some measure of justice for the thousands of victims of the crimes committed by himself and by his troops and it also sends a strong message to other perpetrators even though it's believed to be untouchable like boston said and that was that justice will one day catch up with them and one kind of impact will today's conviction have on the day i say. so. today as i said today is a very important day for justice and the thousands of victims of boston take and i

will finally receive some some justice but we should not forget also other victims of other crimes committed not only by boston together but there were criminals in that into congo that have yet to be brought to justice and the recent resurgence of violence in day 3 district of the democratic republic of congo also sharp and still need to address the impunity gap that still exists in congo and this means someone henceforward the i.c.c. for the i.c.c. prosecutor to really. have a strategy a clear strategy to address this i was sending out ability needs but also on the other hand for to congolese government to commit to strengthen its effort to investigate and prosecute grave international crimes of the domestic level and why did bosco take on the turn himself in. there are many speculations around the

reasons why he turned himself in he was part of this army group 23 which at the time had some internal divisions and so far you know it seemed like for him as that point was safer to surrender himself to the u.s. embassy in kigali rwanda rather than stay where he was within the. last part of the time thank you for joining us not a island of in the early from human rights watch thank you. germany's deutsche bank is to undergo another major restructuring the country's biggest lender is talking about axing 18000 jobs across the globe decimating their offices in london and new york stuff across asia have been seen leaving the building saying that final good byes analysts say this could be the only way to save the back. it was the investment bankers that were the 1st to go
2:14 pm
whole teams of them were fired on monday across asia deutsche bank is turning its back on the international equities business and focusing its attention back home. on that leg on the planned with them planning for quite some time that after achieving stabilisation last year cleaning up the balance sheet and in costs under control we now want to take the next step mats to align the bank with its strengths and that is what we're pleased to announce to the company stumbled during the world financial crisis and its share price has yet to recover. has also been held back by a procession of legal woes the bank repeatedly saw itself confronted with fines worth billions of dollars for money laundering violating sanctions and its role in the subprime mortgage scandal but the restructuring effort is now being seen as a new chance by investors. this dawdling around for the
2:15 pm
past few years is over now concrete steps are being taken to give the bank a new direction and that's what we were missing over the past 5 to 6 years. while deutsche has said the move will cost 7400000000 euros and hopes it will return the company back to the top tier of banking many experts say it may be the last chance to save the bank. let's get this from v.w. cd a business and to. the a month seems to go by without bad news from deutsche bank what's gone wrong this time everything basically costs are too high we've had one restructuring of the next. none of them have been serious we've had one scandal after the next and that's because the bank heaps and heaps of money they've been job cuts constantly you see the latest c.e.o. christie on saving his men to save the bank says this is going to be restocked as
2:16 pm
opposed to the incremental changes that we've seen at the bank. and the main thing is getting back the investment. that is a huge change and will be one of the biggest overhauls all the investment banks since the financial crisis and this is going to cost presumably oh yeah we're talking about 7 and a half 1000000000 euros a heap of redundancy packages we've already seen people leave their sydney offices other asian hubs i mean this was just announced yesterday and people are being fired today already some people have been seen taking selfies of themselves whole teams that have just been scrapped overnight in front of a dodge bank logos outside the buildings in hong kong the scene is pretty gloomy according to trade is their individual talks have been held for employees they've been pulled into a child given sue rounds of redundancy package and told goodbye to route every 5th job basically is going. to work out what does leave the bank well it leaves the
2:17 pm
biggest bank in europe's biggest economy basically in a position that is basically a raising itself that's what it looks like but the c.e.o. reckons it's going to be more profitable it's going to be leaner true it's going to be more in a video if and more resilient i don't know about that but what it will do is bring the bank back to its roots it was originally formed to facilitate trade. german trade within europe that was 150 years ago and it played a big role in germany's economic miracle its post will boom it could play a big role as far as trade was now go protection is a dodge not needs a dodge a buck and facade and thank you now to a story that captured the world's attention on june the 23rd last year 12 boys from a youth football team and their coach decided to explore a cave in thailand they entered the timeline cave in the northern province of china
2:18 pm
ride but shortly after they went in heavy rains began floodwaters rose trapping the boys in the coach early efforts to find them fails the search team grew to hundreds of people including cave diving experts and rescuers from all over the world that after a 9 days with no news divers found the boys stopping but still a life full kilometers from the caves mouth next came the challenging task of bringing them out to safety through a flooded cave a daring mission that cost one dr diver his life the boys and their coach were all rescued safely a year on the loose shot at chelsea and phil has been talking with one of the rescue divers. alike to tell a good story and it's a very good story when i arrived through to the cave with the kids where i get to before we were going out there not knowing 100 percent what kind of mission i'll be going into i'll be going in to save some kids or they're going to recover some
2:19 pm
bodies and i think myself and many of the other rescuers we were probably expecting to find them is some of them not alive. it was terrifying to think about that maybe you're going to be diving around and then the next thing you're going to bump into is that. eternity or some other situation that was part of getting before the 1st kids out any kind of work pretty good. i was sitting in the 6th chamber which is roughly halfway into where he put the kids where i found. myself in my dive buddy busy voice to support the divers and the kids as they were coming out we could actually see the dive o.o.c. the night of the diver way before we can see the dive and i remember that ready vividly i'm sitting on one of the banks together with my dive buddy and i can see this glowing to walk so i'm jumping into the water the water is about chest high at
2:20 pm
this barn and i'm running towards that ike east dragging something to the wood so i know what that is that busy is one of the kids but at this point i didn't know what condition the kid was so that i still remember coming around him that he's coming up and i can see the bubbles iceskating from the kits mosconi equipment which indicates to me that the kiddies is breathing. and i both told you to no he said i may be using different maybe something else is wrong with him but he said. i wish the last person to leave the cave that night at this point all of the kids have already been evacuated to the hospital and was under treatment i still remember coming into the sort of charm bar which is where the diving ends i remember one of the american divers just said to me i've been to all find them all alive and. while i thought they were because i sold it for busy divers few hours earlier i didn't know and it was fantastic to get there and the new stuff yeah they're very
2:21 pm
different. and you. know i don't feel like in your role and i don't think any of us do because we were just doing what we do. every day but we were doing something that we we all love to do you got a pain in the right thing that that's even more kids tell me you know. if you go again sure 100 percent yes i will go again. i think the biggest takeaway that that i had formed from this experience is that i learned that absolutely nothing is impossible if you work together if you have a mission and don't forget also a good planning then you can do everything one year later this spectacular rescue operation is still on many people's minds hundreds sometimes thousands flock here to tom long cave every day despite it being closed off to the general public ever since the rescue operation it is unclear whether it will ever be open due to safety
2:22 pm
concerns and conservation aspects in the meantime the 12 boys and their coach have become semi celebrities they have appeared on a major u.s. talk show and played friendly football matches around the world they have also signed a deal with streaming giant netflix that wants to bring the story to life on screen apparently each family has received. more than 80000 euros for the exclusive deal which forbids them to speak to other media now as for social media the boys have enjoyed a boost since the rescue 2 of them have about 150000 followers on instagram coach eg now runs his own football academy last year's touching goal mission was a huge success but it also cost one rescue diver his life he's being remembered as well especially on a day like this. for a new reporting from northern thailand. in the women's of football world cup final the united states have retained that title beating the netherlands to know they can

repay no rose lavelle scored the u.s. goals in the 2nd half saving team u.s.a.'s 4th title win. behind the familiar structure on the flag and the growing only familiar stars in the line up the americans lived up to the hype of heavy favoritism to paper the dutch goal with making rypien though often the provider it's the newest and morgan was denied by the brilliance of saudi van veen and. the 29 year old's hands kept their side in it before half time as the teams were level with the bright it wasn't until the alamar before the hand of the video assistant referee would finally break the orange resistance a penalty awarded rypien 0 stepped up and put one hand on the trophy. the captain capping a tournament in which he laid on and off the pitch. like minutes later roselyn failed put the finishing touches on the victory with a 2nd goal deserved win that makes the usa world champions a 4th time. megan rapinoe winning player of the tournament as
2:24 pm
a team might history interview. well this year's tournament seoul records being broken on and off the pitch all over the place i mean day w. sport can talk sarette welcome. that's about viewing figures 1st as you get the sense that there were lots more people watching and it was getting a lot more attention yes of a way out so t.v. ratings for this woman's world cup through the roof i mean 4 years ago 836000000 viewers tuned in across all platforms this year fifa expect that that number to reach 1000000000 so that on its own is an increase of over 150000000 viewers in just 4 years and they go that's a step right there so but of course we still have a very long way to go. because if you compare even the $1000000000.00 figure that
2:25 pm
they will reach compared to the men's the men's for example in 2018 at the world cup they pulled in $3500000000.00 views so small step but it still you know shows that there is growth happening in the women's game so given the growth in the surge in popularity the women's game is still trying to play catch up yet it is i mean that's the reality. there's still a huge discrepancy between the men in the women's game fief of course is trying to solve that by example they've increased the price money which of course doubled for this world cup to $27000000.00 euros and will double again for the next tournament but if you compare that in the grand scheme of all things it's still peanuts compared to what the men make who for example had a total fund in russia last year of $356000000.00 euros exactly so you know so you can double the price money but you're not you won't even come close to closing the gap well it's so what more needs to happen
2:26 pm
a lot more zulfi find the national soccer federations for example they need to invest more in facilities they need to invest more in developing women's leaks but at least as a fight the fight for equality has entered public consciousness and we saw that yesterday after the usa when they won the world cup we had chance in the chair in the in the at tenting equal pay equal pay in the stands and let's take a look at that because we have footage of that as well as what u.s. co-captain megan rapinoe had to say about it. tired tired tired. tired of something like that and you know obviously i'm the biggest nuts here that went so far beyond anything short of the 1st pretty incredible thing yeah and what's so interesting is that one more thing that she added to that comment was god forbid we paid and she brings up a very interesting point because the reality is that there are so many main footballers that all over paid but no one is faking fuss about about the i saw him
