the james seaman gallery the stunning combination of neo classical and modern architecture will serve as a new entrance point to one of the world's most important repositories of cultural treasures the linz museum island. design cues for the gallery were taken from the existing 5 museums on the island. architect david shipler field conceived the 20 year long project including famously giving the galleries neighbor the noise museum or new museum a new lease of life. from the jane seeman central hub visitors will have underground connections to museums on the island. we will be able to go right into the noise was there. in the future you also be able to go left into the park so. this will become part of

a route. which allows you. to come. into this level go through the program on come back out even on the other level there is a sort of you know. interchange. connection. the building sprawling outdoor terrace and indoor entrance hall off of visitors a place to linger. the foyer is flooded with light thanks to floor to ceiling windows. the gallery also boasts a $300.00 seat auditorium and a lavish museum shop outfitted entirely in french wal-mart. the 1st show in the galleries temporary exhibition space will commemorate the building's namesake jewish berlin patron and art collector james seaman. the new gateway to berlin's cultural acropolis is a cool component of a master plan for the island devised by david chipperfield. and approved by the

conditions there are absolutely awful we were building in the i mean reminds as well been building on the river when we were for a few years but also as you say historical restrictions that the importance of the surrounding buildings i mean we were coming on to a very. pre-determined stage. of the signal graffiti that credible signal graffiti of the 19th century. museums was clear the something we had to think about very very serious and therefore the fitting into this preexisting architecture was really one of the biggest costs and also i mean also another. it seems like difficult to us has to fulfill many titles i mean it's not just a visitor's center it is has to be many things. i think that's one of the that was

one of the exciting and difficult things of of the project was to understand what it was it's not another museum it's it's a collection of different. concerns and requirements that the museum on the needs primarily it's an orientation an assembly place for the larger visitor groups but it's also a connector if it connects you into the sort of museum tour and that's very much directed to expanding visitor. groups and along with the facilities of bathrooms cloakrooms coffee shop and things like that . but as well as that i think the the project the building. is a bridge to the city in a big permanent collections work terribly well for tourists but they don't always

appeal to the citizen. if you see enough to teach you not necessary going to go back next sunday as well are to the person or to however much you love them. so the jameson gallery has is used to ordinances dealing with one as the master of the other is the city and so the the building contains changing exhibition space for the 1st time museum on and we have really purpose built in that of course appeals to broaden his because that's a very teaching exhibition and just as importantly the auditorium which is a place where there will be lectures and events and films i want to ask you about i mean your other great. book you're famous for sun in this city is the noise museum as well which was groundbreaking what i mean the press this went on for. so much controversy about it and i just wanted that there it was we've got pictures of it i think i'm mixing the old with the new as you did you prove them all wrong it
