ray telescope made in germany heads into space in search of new galaxies. i'm brian thomas thanks so much for joining us so dan's ruling military council says it has filed a coup by members of the army and intelligence services now this comes just days after that council made a power sharing agreement with pro-democracy activists senior general amar abraham says rebel soldiers are being rounded up and that the coup was an attempt to quote hinder the transition to democracy sudan has been saying nasty protests and bloody crackdowns on them by the military since the toppling of the former dictator moammar all bashir i was earlier this year. ok for more on this now we have details. she's been reporting from sudan for us following the
8:02 am
story good morning to you can you tell us what's behind this coup attempt so the military council has said officially there are 16 some retired officers still active officers that were arrested in this quick time that they that they have for him but they haven't released the names are not really sure who these officers are exactly what their which division they belong to within the military so it's unclear but it is worth saying that in mid june the military council after a bloody crackdown on protesters and who in 3rd came out in a presser and said that they had thwarted a coup attempt then as well also from within the military but the names of the people have not been released and they aware of not been very transparent about this so it remains to be seen as to how transparent the military council itself deals with this particular i legit attempt this is it's not the 1st attempt and this one comes after a power sharing sharing deal was reached with the pro-democracy activists we know
8:03 am
anything about that deal so the official draft of the deal has not been released we do know some details we know that it's going to be a little bit longer than 3 years if there's going to be a transitional period leading up to elections which would be the 1st elections sudan would see after the remover of armor but she was in power in had been in power for 30 years it's going to be there's going to be a sovereign council that runs the country and the leadership of that council is going to be rotating we know that the 1st 21 months there's going to be a military leader and then the last 18 months there's going to be a civilian leader. and but this is not civilian rule so to speak in case it's a transition a roadmap for transition based on what you've been seeing in sudan during your reporting for us do you think that the elements you just described of this agreement will be enough to end the protests so right before this power sharing agreement had had been reached. were many points in which it looked like the
8:04 am
opposition the protesters and the military had reached their agreement some say that these other agreements were much better than this power power sharing deal with the country had been a crisis and at a standstill for 44 weeks with a lot of violence with a huge internet shutdown that affected the caucus so a lot of the people that i've spoken to see this as a compromise but as a necessary compromise however they are very clear and even when i was there i remember anybody i talked to asked what did you want we want civilian they would say we want civilian rule this transition this power sharing sharing deal is by no stretch of the imagination civilian rule it's a it's a 1st step that could eventually at the conclusion of the transitional period lead to civilian rule what could potentially cloud this or makes this difficult as the reports are getting of mass killings by the military inside sudan do you know anything about the current so on june 3rd of this year there was a huge crackdown on a protest camp that was right outside of the military headquarters in the couple
8:05 am
for 2 i was there in may this was really the heart and soul of the revolution were people from across the country congregated to voice their demand for a civilian government under an 3rd the government crackdown military forces crackdown on that camp and on june 4th there was a huge internet shut down in the country which meant that very little footage or debate in the evidence came out of that alleged massacre many people called it the people i talked to called it a massacre the internet came back 2 days ago and so with over months delay we're getting these very graphic shocking images from the crackdown that have exceeded the imagination of of many and it's coming right before the signing of this agreement which people know very little about a lot of people are very disenchanted with it so it remains to be seen as to whether this will affect the power sharing agreement also in the in the power sharing agreement the military has about to investigate these these crimes but now that these images are coming out where the chose me. terry forces implicated in
8:06 am
this violence many are having doubts is the military really capable of investigating itself ok and so we'll find out how this could be affecting the civilian agreement agreement would still you protesters thanks very much abram for coming in on this. as preview on some of the other stories making the news at this hour bomb laden vehicles have exploded near a group of libyan national army leaders in their eastern stronghold of benghazi telling 4 people and wounding 33 others the explosions at the funeral for a high ranking general cast out on the n l a's 3 month old events of on tripoli the u.n. backed government. the u.s. is planning naval escorts for shipping in the gulf the move comes after all armed arraigning boats threatened a british tanker in the strait of hormuz betting on splitting together a coalition to protect vessels britain and france both patrol waters in the region . the american coastal city of new orleans has been inundated

a story but it's true in a way because i think all masterpieces of architecture can be reduced to a very simple idea of structure and here in this case it's just the elements it's the colonnades it's the flight of steps the broad staircase leading up to the entrance and it's the clint wonderful word we see in germany the plinth the pedestal where it's build upon and all 3 elements the. colonnades the stairs and the plinth 3 different features have been taken from museum island because you see the big plinth on museum island all the museums you have the colonnades around the around the island built by studio in the 19th century and of course you have the flight of steps at the ultimate film which is very imposing so so he took 3 elements put them together in a new way and that's the building and that's what he sketched on his napkin and it's very easy i mean sketch the eiffel tower it's going like that it's

a very simple structure or take the pyramids it's just like a very simple structure again and the pyramid i have to say was one of the ideas for the museum island because in the eighty's. pay the famous artist harrison already her roommate as a central entrance for the louvre complex and then berlin thought we have to have this is well and that's what the real losses they didn't reach so far back the planners and shipping fuel into the they used were greek elements classical elements absolutely that's the classical prussian athens of the north i do i mean in the 19th century russian kings wanted to be early and to be the pressure the athens of one of the acropolis on spray and then of course he realised that as well so he went back to the eighty's with the idea of a central entrance that was not to be a field but was the planning commission in berlin and he took the elements from the 19th century of classical prussian architecture let's talk about deal with your

field he's no stranger to berlin no he's kind of the favorite the darling of of berliners in terms of architecture not so many beautiful buildings have been built since the wall fell but he did it he built the most beautiful and the most long lasting desk they're here to stay they will be here when we talk in 30 years we'll talk about sylvia that not about many other architects that have been around in berlin and. he he was also already engaged in the museum the rebuilding of the building next to the structure we're talking about now and also he built a lot of museums around europe germany britain he even he can be very down to earth he's even redesigned i'm a comic classical because of these intrade very simple design with this kind of design what kind of experiencing experience is he trying to make visitors yeah that's what he was explaining also in the film we just saw here once the people to

60 year old grandfather and his family found refuge a room a kitchen a toilet and a roof over their heads the family was grateful but is now all the more shocked following the demolition order. to me my whole being in the light we are just crushed by the news that they want us out we were safe here but what should we do now is just as hard as when we had to leave syria last enemy that i can never get my own. cell has been hit hard by the influx of refugees the quiet border town took in 120000 syrians 3 times its own population the rundown electricity and water supply is close to collapse the local schools only have space for 3000 pupils but there are 12000 children many locals worry about their jobs. but i let it be a lot of it i'm the syrians up in the many businesses the competed without and i

everybody will surely be crossing the daily. rocket launch isn't an everyday big deal for the technicians all the stuff that i could do it was my 2nd time at home in the context of. a girl going to the gym an awful lot of time to get a flew into space and that was a really moving moment to use those dictators with the allies people were drinking champagne the 2nd time when the words goes to fly for weeks ago it was a little bit simpler but there was still plenty of drama after all these launches about putting a unique cutting edge and also very expensive telescope into space unfortunately it didn't take place that was a big disappointment for everyone that joined a group of 50 german scientists have been given developing for years and they all came specially for the launch so i disappointed on the one hand. people on this do that to change the law she's an actual pick nothing unusual in space exploration

a living for lazarus busking on the streets of long way for small change and constantly feeling threatened but then an english tourist filmed him performing and everything changed the footage caught the eye of a music producer in london now lazarus has recorded an album and he's using his music to teach people that everyone is the same. a lot of people with albinism who live in remote areas aren't safe sometimes their doors don't close or lock and it makes it easier for people to come and kidnap them and then do whatever they want with them. i hope my music will raise awareness about issues around how people with albinism are treated in malawi and hopefully change things along the way. despite his growing success lazarus still fears being targeted because of his albinism and he worries about his sons to have whom also have albinism who. but

a kickstarter campaign launched by the team that produced his album is raising money to build him and his family a secure house. and through his performing lazarus is fast building up a fan base which includes the singer madonna. and he produced a documentary about lazarus and has called him a powerful voice who won't be silence because of his albinism a voice that seems to be having an effect already. it's true that persons with albinism are invisible in our society leisure is his work as a role model help society look at people with albinism as able people who can contribute equally in all spheres and we appreciate that he is raising awareness at different levels where the 2 of us do. not restrict one dolly's album stomp on the devil will be released in september.
