10:02 pm
i've read all. the demonstrators on wavering in their main demands the resignation of the territory's beijing backed chief executive kerry lamb and the full withdrawal of a hated bill allowing suspects to be sent for trial in mainland china. we're on the go off call the reds. silence is not an option. protesters also called on the authorities to up hold the freedom of the press. are not asking police to treat is better than normal people with respect and i think the media has done quite a good job in that says including all parties involved with this but so i hope that will be become usual. later in the day there were oakley scenes inside the shopping mauthausen luxury brands protesters wielding the now familiar umbrellas clashed
10:03 pm
with police. it's the 5th straight weekend of mass dissent and there's little sign of are the side cracking down. earlier we spoke to journalists him on the plaster in hong kong he explained why the protests are persisting even though the authorities have said the extradition law is dead i pulled the whole protest today and what people say is that she said it is dead and she even used the chinese expression for it but she refused to use the word we draw an we would have legal consequences. to be used it it means ok we cannot promise you that we are not going to pass it but it still is still there somehow so people don't trust the government of hong kong there is a deep distrust and because of that and let and she will it's officially withdrawn from the program of the leko illegitimate let it consume they will keep protesting
10:04 pm
it wants to people who have been or. it's so far to be released they want the protest not to be told. any more and the last edition is long list is they want book in our election so you can see that it has a hobby with a very controversial bill that frankly the government didn't just get paid woods and i'm going to the people of hong kong so much now the whole political system hong kong we can she speak. floods and mudslides caused by heavy rain have left a trail of destruction across northeastern india killing at least a dozen people officials say the disaster has displaced at least one and a half 1000000 people in the region many homes in the northeastern state of asama also submerged. homemade rafts bring people to what's left of their flooded homes

to france now or president a minimum across the showcase europe's defense capabilities at this year's festival day parade the focus on european military cooperation on the fresh day comes at a time of growing tensions with the united states key e.u. leaders including german chancellor angela merkel joined mccrone to watch the annual parade down the shells of these a which commemorates the start of the french revolution one of the most eye catching pieces of hardware on display this year was this fly board which will be tested by the french military. our correspondent lisa lewis was in paris at the parade and sent us this the theme of today's busy day parade with european friends corporation president in myanmar call had invited the 19 and the other. the member states of his so called european intervention initiative launched about one year ago he wanted to depict himself as the european
10:08 pm
leader germany's angela merkel one of the guests of honor here today said that this was a great step towards european defense corp today's parade was also a further attempt to say that europe can very much stand on its own feet when it comes to defense and that it doesn't depend that much anymore on the u.s. but a common european defense strategy also means bringing together military dr eans that can defer greatly especially when it comes to germany and france which is much more intervention savvy than its neighbors so it remains to be seen if the idea that michael has showcased here today will really become reality. while excitement is growing in india as the country prepares for its 1st moon landing mission due to launch in just a few hours the ambitious chunder young to enclose a robot rover that will explore the lunar surface close to the moon's south pole if
10:09 pm
all goes to plan it will be the 1st mission to land in that region. chandrayaan to india's most challenging mission so far a highly complex undertaking. the spacecraft should reach its destination at the beginning of august when it enters an elliptical orbit of the moon. then it will approach the lunar surface. with a landing robot vick separates from the craft the most exciting phase begins india's 1st soft landing on the moon. the. selective landing site is about 600 kilometers from the lunar south pole a region of craters that has literally been on the dark side of the moon for billions of years the blue markings here show where satellites have spotted frozen
10:10 pm
ice craters given the high plateau the landing robot should touch down gently amid rock that is older than anything on earth. after landing opened its doors and released india's 1st lunar rover on to the surface. small as a briefcase it can cover up to 500 meters. with its instruments the rover will measure water bearing minerals in the lunar rock as well as the concentration of elements such as aluminum silicone and titanium. meanwhile the landing robot moonquakes an explorer so-called lunar plasma a thin layer of electrically charged particles above the surface. and the rover will be able to collect data for 14 days then it will be dark for 14 days
10:11 pm
that's when the temperature drops to $160.00 degrees below 0. the orbiter will spend a year gathering data about the moon the objective is to fill in the gaps from india's previous mission it has 8 measuring instruments on board their function is to investigate the moon's thin atmosphere and show which minerals and chemical elements make up its surface. for the 1st time a special radar will be used to determine the location and quantity of frozen water . india's mission is the 1st to bring this type of instrument to the moon. for more on india's mission to. moon i'm joined by the raf gopalaswami director of the south asia center at the atlantic council and an expert on the indian space program thank you so much for joining us this is very exciting and of course it's
10:12 pm
a major step forward for india's space program why were they so determined to get to the moon. well i don't i think it's not they were determined to get to the moon i think it's essentially space exploration evolved as an integral part of the indian space program and i was a part of that and or of their sort of government to do something new every year and this has been a systematic graduated increase advancement of the exploration program and that's why they're keen on getting to the mall in terms of sending to scientific experiments. so gradual expansion how does india space program measure up right now to the more well established programs of the u.s. or russia. well you know 1st a full a i don't like this comparison with the u.s. or russia for for the start because and as i said the graduated expansion because india space program started this merely as an application or into program the 1st phase of the a programs included like the developing remote sensing technologies
10:13 pm
the communication technologies and to put these things in our bit they invested heavily in the launch of techniques once the leeched some kind of a self-sufficiency and that then they started expanding themselves into some parts of commercialization and others as a set of exploration which is a scientific part and an integral part in my view of any space agency and i think that's where this one lies so whereas the u.s. soviet union vo space programs started with a completely different trajectory where there was a huge amount of politics behind it the security angle behind it and as far as india is concerned security for their space program as you know relatively late entrant so i think that comparison a little bit out of some oranges comparison temperature certainly so if this mission is a success what's next for the indian space program. you know. you know i think one of the intended goals is the man a manned mission i think back would be some kind of an ultimate price in terms of
10:14 pm
space exploration that south but i think it's what india's space program demonstrates for us on a broader scale that's something a country like india which in $1000.00 sixty's launched a space program and where many doubted the efficacy of the space program in years and mustered and shown reliably to the wall that you know such a country can if we have a vision and you have the backing and you have the right mindset you could leave iraq into the technological development and i think that's a lesson that's a big leap for all of us to walk away from this absolutely vera slummy director of the south asia center at the atlantic council thank you so much pleasure thank you . in tennis novak djokovic is the men's wimbledon champion after coming through an epic 5 set encounter with fellow heavyweight roger federer out of her was dominant on his own serve claiming 2 of the opening for sets of djokovic took the other 2 on tie breaks to set up a thrilling finale it all came down to
10:15 pm
