yes you have mentioned. they must be on the mission. and. they must be on. the way. and they. say the. red. chinese government meddling interfering. like. some of. the police they want to. have. some of them. and. yet i. obviously think they have the right and there is no and. you know no sign for
7:03 pm
weeks now read the protests as you know word initially sparked by a now suspended extradition bill but protesters are clearly still dissatisfied why . the protest which joined him. calling on me. which. i. feel like they're not. really in the field when i come back. and also they want to cover that up. and i read that that these are. those that that is not
7:04 pm
a major but more important than now boyd thing to what you read. and also the chinese government. that is nothing. now i think they're also calling you. in hong kong thank you so much. hong kong's protestors have found another cold for a way to speak out against beijing. and joins me now in studio with the story of hong kong so-called lenin walls call in lightness yeah well deserved lenin walls are actually named after john lennon of the beatles and the memorial wall that popped up for him in prague in 1980 in hong kong these are walls that are covered in sticky notes and they have messages of support for the protest movement we saw the 1st one appear actually during demonstrations back in 2014 but now during these

protests these are really spreading like wildfire across the city and just to give you a sense of what these walls look like take a look at this we have. a few of them right here these can be found in tunnels and bus stops of metro station. just about any wall or column along the protest route will find these lenin balls in fact some people say there could be as many as 200 of them across the city here's some perspective on how expansive some of these are take a look at this time lapse this is the type underpass it's been renamed the lenin tunnel by protesters look how far this goes on for is incredible in terms of the messages themselves i mean these are notes that express hope solidarity with the protest movement you can see one here that says you'll never walk alone they're also pretty creative to take a look at this playing on the movie kill bill he says is that is the bill dead yet clearly not they're still out there protesting but a lot of messages across the city at these london walls so what do these london walls mean for the protesters themselves i mean in a way look these are kind of
7:06 pm
a visual barometer right of the amount of support that this movement has if you talk to protesters a lot of them say you know this has become a way for anyone even if you're not out there on the front lines so to participate in the conversation and here's what some of them have to say. there are more people willing to express their voices no doubt but they might not have so much time to gather together in the same place it's good that there's a place like this in our own community for us to express our views. think that that's what each person writes or posts is a very personal thing but when you come out and see this to some extent it becomes a type of power this turn something that's very subjective into an object of wish. the most high on god if you. say what they don't see we have rallied many tell you this but the government still hasn't given a clear response to our requests. so i want to come here to write something to
7:07 pm
encourage people to take or leave the choice a big play. that last person makes me think what does the government think about these lennon walls i mean they seem to be tolerating it but there have been some incidents of these walls most of the match involving pro beijing protesters earlier this month a clash broke out you can see it here this was a couple approached beijing men trying to essentially tear down one of these walls there's a plastic protecting them this turned into a brief fist fights the wall supporters intervened now many of these walls actually have 24 hour rotations to guard the notes you see one of the guards here disguising his face but look i mean just like these street rallies these balls don't look like they're going anywhere anytime soon they've really become a part of and to be clear those who are regular citizens those guys had nothing to do with the government it's hard to know who exactly those people were but clearly they were not happy about those messages that were both of their thanks so much for that interesting story. and now to some of the other stories making news around the

village was evacuated as a precaution. to ukraine now where polls have just closed in the country's snap election president volodymyr zelinsky called the vote after being sworn into office in may he's hoping this poll will consolidate his power and give him a stronger mandate to carry out reforms the former television actor was elected on promises of tackling corruption and shaking up ukraine's political system but so far progress has been slow. connelly is in kiev at zelinsky headquarters right now nick thanks for joining us polls are close we understand so what's the mood there. good evening michael well. it's an optimistic tone here at this lenski election policy but i would say the champagne is on ice because the 1st exit polls coming
7:10 pm
out suggesting that. selenski spotty 70 people is on around 44 percent so missing that all rights all out to majority which they had been working towards i think it's an indication of the kind of high flying ambition of this team that they you know not getting an outright majority it seems like a little bit of a disappointment even though this is more a strong parliamentary base than any of the ukrainian president that before him so he will have to look for coalition options and one of those people looks to be another showbiz import politics that's love ukraine's most famous singer who if these 1st exit polls it's believed has passed 5 percent and could just about if all works out give selenski those votes to get a 50 percent so what is the supporters anticipating right now they feel that essentially those numbers are going to change and they're going to have to look for a partner to build a government with. i think that's if in the mood here obviously
7:11 pm
this is a bit more complex than the presidential poll because the way that the those those poll ratings those numbers translate into seats ukraine system has directly elected members of parliament party lists $5050.00 so how those votes spread across the country then translate into seats in ukraine's parliament that will take a few days to clarify and to work out what kind of work will majority will be there but certainly in any combination since this policy will be the dominating the old broad the old of the major part as it were and will be able to dictate its terms having said that given selenski promise to the nation to really reboot ukraine's politics and to really bring a new turns going to politics he's options already limited the other 2 big parties that seem to have made it into parliament those of former president poroshenko and former partners to tymoshenko so really a coalition with those wouldn't really. meet his expectations really fit with that with that message of change and new faces so let's step back in just for a little perspective here we're essentially saying is it looks like. ukraine could

see a coalition government led by a former actor and a musician if in fact that's the case what does this say about politics in ukraine at this point. i think it's a tale of great disappointment this country has really failed to live up to its huge potential that it has fallen behind its neighbors it's poland who 2030 years ago when a very similar economic position and now millions of ukrainians travel to poland to work because ukraine really hasn't provided jobs and the standard of living for its citizens there's a lot of frustration with a generation of politicians who seem to be following their own interests rather than the interests of the country and who have been preoccupied with particular infighting rather than solving fundamental problems so they really want to pick design fresh faces having said that ukrainians as we've seen in these elections were more willing to put their trust in a new face politics that they'd least had some inkling all through decades on t.v. and so it seems that show business is the perfect platform in today's ukraine
7:13 pm
either as a musician or a comedian to really start those particular is out of nowhere selenski 6 months ago was a comedian he announced on new year's eve that he would write the presidency and then with a couple months picked up a 3 quarter majority it's unheard of so that really is a sign indication for you of the depth of frustration this country in the willingness to try anything new. to usenet connelly in kiev thanks so much for that report. in cycling british writer simon age says one stage 15 of the tour falls an intense manton stage in the pyrenees that he won after his solo sprint french riders will be on alert for leap dropped further seconds after struggling on the final of the stages for climbs but retains the yellow jersey defending champion go hole thoma is still in seconds. algeria's footballers have returned home to a hero's welcome after their africa cup of nations triumph the team was greeted by enormous crowds on the streets of the capital algiers on saturday following their
