continue to do this work. for more on the latest of these 2 tragedies let's go to our correspondent color black or who's in washington carla the shooter the shooting in dayton is just a couple of hours old do we know something about the motivations of either of these tragedies. well what we do know about the shooter and dayton ohio was that he came very prepared or saying he wore body armor and that he had high capacity magazines with when he went out on his shooting spree as for the suspects in the possible police has said they have found a manifesto that. could very likely have been written by the suspect and if that is the case that points to the shooting possibly being a hate crime it also looks like he chose el paso specifically his hometown allen texas almost 10 hour drive away from el paso so he did not just happen upon

the wal-mart where he opened fire have we heard any reactions from the white house from democrats from political leaders at all about either of these. yes president trump tweeted this morning plus the people of texas plus the people of faith in ohio and earlier after the apostle shooting last night he said that there are no reasons or excuses that will ever justify killing innocent people and that's why by saying that he was sending us thoughts and prayers now democrats are saying that it's not enough and they are calling for stricter gun control laws once again mayor p. it's going to church south bend indiana was one of the candidates running for a presidential candidate for the democrats that the u.s. was the only country in the world with more guns than weapon with more guns than people and he said it has not made us safer we can respect the 2nd amendment and

not allow it to be a death sentence for thousands of americans and another presidential hopeful senator and we close our criticized said that while the individual shooter in el paso was of course responsible for the killing that's president trump's rhetoric has fueled more hate in this country all right well we're staring down more months of presidential campaign coming so i'm sure we're going to hear more about this for us in washington d.c. thank you so much and just hours before the ohio attack another mass shooting in the u.s. state of texas left 20 people dead and 2 dozen injured a 21 year old man with an assault rifle opened fire in a crowded wal-mart store in the town of el paso which is close to the u.s. border with mexico he was arrested at the scene and 3 mexican nationals are said to be among the dead the texas governor is calling the massacre a hate crime and authorities are investigating whether

calls for blood donations to help the dozens of we did his patients would distribute it across local hospitals. we took 7 patients to the operating room today. underwent a number of procedures by a number of different specialists. and it's expected that over the course of the next several days we will need to do ongoing procedures on many of these patients. law enforcement arrested a 21 year old suspect and to found a manifesto online that may be linked to the shooting that has a nexus point in time to a hate crime the f.b.i. will be looking into that with all other federal authorities right now we're looking out for to ensure with capital murder charges for this individual. the mass shooting is already being called the 8th deadliest in u.s. history and it's just one of over $32000.00 incidents related to gun violence in

the united states this year alone. that shooting in el paso has prompted an outpouring of grief and sympathy for the victims but it's also sparked renewed calls for stricter gun control as the scale of the bloodshed unfolded officials including texas governor greg abbott called the murders a hate crime this is just disgusting intolerable is not texan. we are going to aggressively prosecute both capital murder but also is a hate crime which is. exactly what it appears to be without having seen all the evidence you have i don't want to get ahead of the evidence but we have to be very very clear. conduct like this like this actions like this crimes like these are not who or what texas is and will not be accepted here. has called into question the gun laws including democratic presidential hopeful

iraq. and yes it's the gun laws just universal background checks and yes we should stop selling weapons of war and or communities but i think we also have to confront this hatred that i have never seen in in my lifetime. and as vigils west spontaneously held others appealed to the sense of community. this horrific act does not define our community. what defines our community is the lines around the blood bank of people ready to donate people wanting to offer counseling services to families and volunteering left and right that's well possible is that's what's going to define us tonight. it's already been cited as one of the worst such shootings a grim day for el paso and america. joining me now for more is due to the

reporter erin chilton so it's not think infirmed yet that this shooter was inspired by whites from his ideology but we've seen several other mass shootings of this type that were carried out by right wing extremists at what point can we say yes this is a pattern well that all really hinges on the authenticity of that manifesto that we heard about that report right now as we said a manifesto was posted online to a rather new tori's chat room which is really closely aligned with white nativist and white supremacist sentiment online referred to as ajahn and. if this manifesto was actually written by the alleged shooter well it would just be a long line of basically advertising attempts by by white right wing and white nationalist and supremacists around the world it's almost become kind of a tragic little story we saw this in the christchurch shooting in new zealand and we've seen this in other shootings the united states right before a gunman marches into somewhere where they want to take

a lot of innocent lives they post these messages on h. and on various networks online and there are people waiting there to pick them up and transport that message to the rest of the world if that manifesto is real then definitely we can talk about. a pattern here a very very strong pattern that we're seeing repeat over and over again it used to be a case that we would see these every couple years well now we're seeing them just within the space of a couple days i mean there is a shooting 6 days united states and now within a couple of hours with just 13 hours between them so it all depends on what investigators find out about that manifesto but it does seem like we are seeing really just a tragic pattern a pattern repeated over throughout the world but especially focused on united states and despite this increasing frequency as you said of mass shootings being perpetrated really in this year alone it's been so hard for the u.s. to change its gun laws despite overwhelming public support for him to do so what is the obstacle here. i hate to say it may hate to put it this way but this is not just about gun laws gun laws are part of this but in general if you look at it the

united states is not really willing to take a hard look in the mirror and confront the issues that are behind these gun laws it doesn't matter and the gun laws are of these mass shootings it doesn't matter what you think is actually causing it it could be a mental health crisis united states it could be as some people say the breakdown the family increasing crime rates for the country access to guns too many guns you know on the streets not enough guns being on the streets every time we have a shooting like this the united states in the entire country rushes the point the blame and says never again i remember when i was a kid the 1st huge mass shooting in the modern era columbine right a bunch of kids were killed in one of the 1st tragic mass shootings in the united states and suddenly we had cops at my school every single day we had armed cops in front of our doors and they said we will never let this happen again well virginia tech happened and we again said never again and said he hoped happened again we said never again the united states for some reason maybe it's the political gridlock maybe it's something in the character united states they're not willing to take a hard look at themselves and figure out what is causing this and take the steps

in recent weeks and the country is still holding on to the stand imperio a british tanker another ship was released with a warning. for more analysis i'm now joined by marcus kayyem senior fellow at the german institute for international and security affairs here in berlin so this is the 3rd taker that we know of at least that iran has seized in the past weeks is there any substance to these accusations of oil smuggling or is this just iran being provocative i think we have to do very different patency and the 1st one sees seashell the british tanker was a clear political signal to the united kingdom to the west in general so it was not about the tanker as such but more political signal don't mess around with iran. the seizure of. these small vessel today and another vessel a couple of weeks ago it seems to be a different pattern iran is fighting the smuggling of highly subsidized petroleum
