this is deja vu news live from berlin the so-called islamic state says it's behind a deadly suicide bombing to me afghan capital kabul funerals are now being held for the victims the last targeted wedding reception attended by more than a 1000 people dozens of killed and scores more injured also coming out. tens of thousands of hong kong protesters brave heavy rain to take part in another mass democracy rally the turnout being closely watched as a gauge of public sentiment after more than 2 months of violent clashes and increasingly stern warnings from beijing.
3:01 pm
i'm rebecca races welcome to the program the so-called islamic state is claiming responsibility for a deadly suicide attack on a wedding party in the afghan capital kabul funerals are being held for the victims the attack left more than 60 people dead and dozens more injured many of the victims were women and children the explosion took place as more than a 1000 guests were celebrating a marriage reception at a wedding hall. it comes as the taliban and the united states say they are close to a deal i'm getting u.s. troops to withdraw and ending the 18 year conflict. cobbles huge wedding halls are centers of community life but the grand design and decor of this one belie the carnage of the attack the death toll detailed in part by what. any of the

victims left behind. throughout the night ambulances ferried the injured for treatment outside of a nearby hospital relatives checked for names of the dead and injured an attacker had set off explosives in the midst of the wedding celebrations. yeah diamond present at the explosion happened near the stage where the musicians were all of the young people and all the people who were there were killed some are wounded and now they're in the hospital and others are dead. this nearby hospital needed every bit of space to accommodate the victims they had arrived in a massive wave of distress. of all of the market bottom of it we came to the site of the blast and i saw that many women and children were screaming and crying many martyrs and injured people were transferred by the ambulances and it was really a terrible situation. beyond the weddings themselves wedding halls are also
3:03 pm
used as simple meeting places for small and large gatherings that's made them the target of a local affiliate of the so-called islamic state. last november at least $55.00 people were killed when a suicide bomber attacked hundreds of muslim scholars and clerics gathered in another kabul wedding hall to mark the birthday of the prophet muhammad. i'm joined now by journalist allie le t.v. in kabul ali thanks for joining me this so-called islamic state say they're responsible for this attack is there any proof of that. i mean the only proof we have is basically their claim they're not in the least calling card and there's really no way to know that but they did actually name the bomber. and the. last name of august army which you know to a lot of us which will lead to a lot of suspicions in this country because you know don has always been accused of
3:04 pm
aiding and abetting different armed groups here normal honest on so literally in these kinds of cases the only proves the only evidence we have is what they claim themselves. and when we talk about afghanistan anyway when you're talking about the taliban so when an i.a.s. fit into all of this and what do they want. so this is exactly the problem is that they're sort of this this rogue group where people in the areas where they gained a lot of traction for instance in the east i've been talking to people in these areas since 201-314-2015 they always say these people come out of nowhere we don't really know what they where they come from we don't understand who they are real reason or stand the way they speak what they do say like the taliban or think muslims and they kick the taliban out and then they take over and they're really known for their brutality they often claim that they will take women from the area as brights for themselves. widow or young unmarried women like telling people to
3:05 pm
hang flags on their houses and things like that it's never been fully proven because as soon as people hear that they leave the area as soon as they can as soon as they hear the name diy they flee the area and the problem is is that with the taliban you generally have a sense that you know they have a leadership they have a spokesman you know their leadership is able to say in doha and negotiate with the top with the united states with these diets forces we don't know who they are we don't know what they want and there's really no way even if that's if there were to be talks with them or you and speak to and what is it that you're going to trying to go shoot around. in kabul afghanistan thank you very much. and it's to hong kong now a pro-democracy don't demonstrators and marching through the city center for a major rally it's the 11th consecutive weekend of protests you're seeing live
3:06 pm
pictures now as tens of thousands braved heavy right in throughout the day and evening to join that demonstration organizers have planned a peaceful march to prove they still have popular support despite mounting violence and growing warnings from mainland china protesters demanding democratic elections and an independent investigation into what they say is police brutality against the protesters. now let's hear from one of the protesters protest organizers now bonnie long who blames the hong kong authorities for violence in recent weeks. that we feel it was a car it was that again that i make it out to be our protest that they have no was no way to protest except there was a rather bold was actually however we saw that as day i'll always be upbeat i was. picked up excessive politics i really hope that these young people that day will
3:07 pm
rest till today we got our sights that. also we hope that the police will understand us while so they will allow to us to have a peaceful day because they will explain himself so you know salah still 40 gas bombs don't work that rubber bullets will be released to that. date of shallot chosen pill is in hong kong and she joins me now charlotte tell us what's been going on there today has it been peaceful. rebecca an outside the legislators to council building at the moment that's hong kong's punin i'm sure you can see behind me there are still thousands of people on the streets yes marching peacefully through this central area of hong kong now this protest started in victoria park police granted permission for an assembly but as you can see behind me this is now spread into something of a rally that's the park simply could not contain the sheer numbers of people who
3:08 pm
took part in today's protest now these people behind me have been braving really to wrench to rain today but let's not forget many of them hit back on the streets today have seen weeks of tear gas rubber bullets clashes on the streets and this this heavy rain certainly isn't going to put them off now those pictures are quite amazing to see of umbrellas but we've seen these mass rallies before in hong kong what makes today different. today has been organized by the same people behind to mass rallies back in june 1 of which organizers say attracted up to 2000000 people what organizers said that they wanted to prevent head of this march is that they could still attract similar numbers and crucially that this protest could remain peaceful what they're really trying to do here is counter a narrative that's been building up over the last week suggesting that a number of these protesters becoming increasingly violent that's after these weeks of clashes we've seen weekend after weekend police and protesters going face to
3:09 pm
face late into the evening and then of course these very violent scenes at the airport earlier this week which would jumped on by chinese state media and beijing likening some of those move by the protesters to terrorists a organizers here want to prove that this still can be a peaceful process and i think some of these images that we've seen today the sea of umbrellas marching through the streets this these peaceful atmosphere is exactly what these organizes wanted to go around the world so a peaceful atmosphere today you say but tensions must be pretty high there how of authority has been responding to the rally. was 30 this evening have issued a statement responding to today's protests they say that the police have been violently attacked they're very upset that one of the main goals of today's protest is to complain about the police handling of this movement so far of clarity say
3:10 pm
police have the police have that backing and that this is going to they're going to crack down on this protest soon but beijing has hardened its rhetoric in recent weeks and that's happened in tandem with those images that we've seen of the people's police chinese punditry along the border with hong kong people of course here are going to be very watching very closely as the weeks go on to see exactly what authorities and beijing have to say about that demands. in hong kong thanks very much for the update. let's take a look now at some of the other stories making news around the world some 4000 people have taken part in a moscow rally organized by russia's communist party ahead of city council elections other opposition groups were not granted permission to hold demonstrations and supporters have been holding single person picket pickets instead to get around the ban. on iranian oil tanker detained in gibraltar

a 5 year hunting ban now the country's going a step further by pushing for limited ivory trade at the world wildlife conference in geneva scientists fear that could also lead to more illegal trade in ivory we know that within africa we really struggle to control trade of products like wildlife and we struggle to sort of monitor it and regulate the legal side of things and we cannot pretend we are not stopping the illegal side of things i mean it's theoretically possible that poaching could get worse and of course and that that's why that's a worse outcome for elephants effective controls are needed to ensure that only tusks from legal haunting are traded but countries with rampant corruption often lack such oversight and that could worsen the plight of elephants. sports now and in major league baseball germany's max kepler of the minnesota twins has broken a 68 year old record for the 1st home runs by a european born player it happened on friday when the berlin one night if no did
