well in a way there was no. substantial change i would say however. some tickets to the british side in the british press there has been movement on the so-called irish stop and that is the backstop is the sticking point in all of this that this is what boris johnson has said again and again that he and his government cannot accept the irish backstop is an insurance policy if you like that's been would be put in place by the e.u. at the end of 2020 if they were not sure what the future deal would be between the u.k. and the e.u. it would prevent a hardboard overturning across the island the republican filing which is in the southeast part of the e.u. northern ireland is part of the u.k. so you can see where the problem is there now boris johnson says. it is anti democratic it would mean that the u.k. including northern ireland would have to stand a customs union they couldn't strike deals with countries outside the e.u.

they want to scrapped so far there's been no movement on that the e.u. has said it isn't possible however today and going to marco and said look we're always open to alternatives you come up with them the u.k. perhaps you could even do it in 30 days a bit tongue in cheek but that has now been the mantle that's been set for boris johnson and the u.k. government coming up with alternatives have been 30 days and perhaps there will be a deal that can be achieved before the 31st of october or did we see or hear any alternatives to or the backstop then but could possibly be reached in 30 days good question it's been asked repeatedly of boris johnson and again he was vague pointing to some report that one of his ministers has come up with there was nothing substantial there the other issue is that within an hour of that press conference the french president a man you must call had said again nothing can be reopened and has all they do what

you said earlier today we were hearing from the elysee palace that they think that a no deal breakfast is the most likely outcome so whether there is anything that can happen before the 31st of october that's not much time does seem unlikely at the moment from boris johnson's perspective what can he take home from those talks about the americal today well he can say to his own side and to the u.k. look i've done my part i've gone off to berlin i'm trying to strike a good deal for the u.k. and then tomorrow he goes to paris to try to do the same thing there so he can say he's done his bit he can say look we've potentially got movement over the backstop angela merkel though has been perhaps a bit clever by saying that it's not our responsibility to come up with these alternatives it's yours so i think whatever happens boris johnson can say he's trying to bet if you doesn't get anything. from it he can say it wasn't my fault it's the e.u.'s fault it's berlijn it's paris it's brussels now angle or merkel can
