all day what's the latest where you are right now. where the moment where in the busy shopping districts causeway they the day this is bustling tonight again it is the scene of carnage once more at the moment there is a huge police presence as i'm sure you can see behind me a short time ago police deployed tear gas at large amounts of protesters who had moved over him many of them setting up barricades you know where they barricades being satellite's police then charged through and the protesters were largely just but since then though we've seen a number of arrests over the strike lists of days of protesters who were left behind they were bundled into police vans what we're hearing is those protesters now moving on to another location this is very much a caps and mouse game called has been repeated not just tonight but throughout these 13 week protest is gather in one place and then they move on and police call

it and take us in multiple different locations to be clear what is happening in hong kong is not in isolated places this is somewhere that is that is extremely widespread charlotte we were just seeing pictures there of those fires that were set in the streets that you mention is this a sign do you think the protesters are now more willing to use violent tactics than they were before. we've seen the protesters on the frontlines using multiple times in the pause in recent weeks we've seen them throwing molotov cocktails the fire projectiles essentially at police that's something that we saw again today we have to say that in the setting lights to bins in the streets that's something we've seen again today but there have been it seems many more with this evening as protesters do try and build up those barricades to try and prevent the police from getting closer to them it would seem this is potentially you could see this is an escalation in violence on both sides police

today using that water cannon once again the 2nd time. within 13 weeks the last time being last sunday but for the 1st time not blue dye was used by police as well crucially people think to to mock to identify those protesters who are on the front line i say that they can be found later and possibly arrested today's protests come a day after more activists were arrested but that doesn't seem to have deterred most protesters there on the streets. that's right a number of high profile activists were arrested as well as legislators yesterday in a big sweep unprecedented in this movement as so far because 900 people have been arrested over the last 13 weeks but the fact that these people who were arrested yesterday was so high profile did along a lot of protesters nevertheless they have been out on the streets today very peacefully as you're on today munching to find in the face of the threat of arrest something the police have said that they do face this is all through and on with

a protest and he sent us this update. today's protests around ounce to buy several opposition groups as the same time but as the war all plans to take place in different locations ultimately fewer people took to the streets as the stime people have been walking around the city chanting russia without putin and let to them free which means let all prisoners from the previous protests free going for a walk is a tactic in russia after all these protests today have not been permitted allowed by the city that's why people here could face arrests even though the protests are peaceful so far meanwhile here at the pushkin square right behind me but surprisingly the police presence is very small today's moscow we see not so many policemen from the moscow city police and from the national security forces at this street and reportedly reportedly nora's so from the austerity seem to have changed

their tactic they're all less harsh today than there was at the previous protest so far however these protests can't change as the situation in these elections and you know no additional independent candidate is expected to be registered with register it in the last few days in the run up to the election next week and. so they're reporting from moscow india has published the final version of its controvert. citizenship list in the north eastern state of a song the list effectively renders nearly 2000000 people stateless in order to be on that list people had to somehow prove that they had come to a sign before march 24th 1971 that's the day before neighboring bangladesh went to war with pakistan the government says the list is meant to crack down on illegal immigrants from bangladesh but many of those affected say they've been living in a some their whole lives. and they have been waiting for years to see the results their future cost into uncertainty by

a government that questions the very original you know what the census concluded many are some residents are facing a grim truth their names don't appear on in just new national registry of citizens to divide between who is officially indian and who is not much separate from elise . it's worrying the names of 2 of my brothers are not there it worries me i don't know why they're not there. but 2 boys and a girl are not on the list but they're under the age of 10 and my wife's name is also not on the list. and very worried i feel bad in my heart i'm feeling very sad. these are not isolated cases a total of 1900000 people were excluded from the list many of them have been living in this northeastern state their whole lives the region is a hotspot for cultural and religious tensions ever since the start of neighboring

a purpose. to rafter enjoyed with the world. i'm one of the most notorious villains in the comic universe is back where of course talking about the joker and the movie the joker is premiering today at this year's venice film festival this time batman's arch nemesis gets his own standalone film exploring the origins of that famed character and well going by the trailer it's safe to say it doesn't end well joining us with more on that is our film guru scott roxboro he is in venice for us scott's the joker is back it's an iconic villain he's been played by by jack nicholson heath ledger among others what does joaquin phoenix now bring to the role of the joker. yet well say this is an iconic superhero character comic a villain in the in the in the batman universe but while jack nicholson played the

joker a sort of a sort of a homo sidle clown sort of completely over the top showman and heath ledger famously payments over an anal oral force of darkness really sort of a fully formed force of darkness what yacking confess is very very different and he basically retraced her almost as an ordinary man who just is pushed too far and just snaps the film is much more about about mental illness and about sort of a dystopian society that pushes people too far in some ways this film roots the joker in a much more realistic world and and that makes actually his trance. into this for reference a villain much more terrifying and much more authentic in my pit stop we have a superhero movie at the venice film festival i mean that was probably unthinkable rightly what made the organizers change their mind and their minds and have the joker. yeah you're absolutely right it would've been unthinkable even just a couple of years ago to have

a superhero movie premiere in this the oldest of the most glamorous film festivals in the world but i think it's 2 things one i think the festival is recognizing that superhero movies are the dominant film genre in the world right now if you just look at how many films are coming out in terms of the box office people watching these movies and with this movie the joker they found a film that actually fits their sort of art house aesthetic as well because this film despite it being a comic book movie despite it being about a. evil villain is very much rooted in the 1970 s. indie film tradition if you can believe it this is this film was produced by martin scorsese and it feels a bit like a martin scorsese film it's got a lot of elements of of taxi driver of king of comedy and they're definitely referenced in this film so despite it being comic book movies by having those elements of a comical movie in it it still is very close to that sort of in the gritty tradition that is very much here here at home in venice sounds like something i might want to check out honestly there's a few other films at the venice film festival which ones have contreras.

this one caught my eye was another film that sort of process along between mainstream and an art house ad astra starring brad pitt it's a space movie but again. the story is very personal and very dark very much like an old 1950 film except set in outer space definitely never one to check out. right there for us in venice thank you very much. you're watching news i'll be back with more news at the top of the hour but we want to leave you now with some pictures from the. fireworks world championships taking place this weekend at berlin's olympic stadium they. call it underway friday after lin's olympic stadium 6 international teams are
