work chief executives they carry lamb says she's withdrawing the bill which sparked months of violent protests in the territory but will hurt concessions be enough to appease the demonstrators and the scale of the disaster caused by hurricane dorian in the bahamas beginning to emerge tens of thousands of homes have been destroyed huge numbers of people tonight are without food. i'm good to have you with us tonight in london how many punches can a prime minister take that's the question they're asking in westminster the new prime minister boris johnson has suffered yet another defeat in his battle for brights it lawmakers have just rejected his call for an early general election johnson had hoped that a snap election. could deliver

a majority so that he could then fulfill his promise of leaving the european union with or without a deal at the end of next month that setback followed an earlier upset for the prime minister when mts passed a bill to stop a new deal breaks it would just get a job for october 31st and also to request a delay to rex. all rights that legislation now goes to the house of lords and has to also be approved by the queen tonight johnson slammed the bill. it's a bill of goods to be in these negotiations a bill that demands an extension at least until next year and perhaps for many more years to come and a bill to the insists acquiesce to the demands of brussels and hands control to our partners it's a bill designed to overturn the biggest democratic votes you know history to trade the 60 for an. artistic historian to london barber bay so our correspondent on the

story of forrest another exciting night there in london barbara i want to talk 1st though about this vote by lawmakers against an early election are we over or can boris johnson come back tomorrow or next week and say no let's vote again. it's not over of course this raging battle between parliament and the prime minister here and probably meant has as you said now. given him street defeats in a road for the good things on him and basically he should be somewhat punchdrunk however boris johnson is fighting on and he will be back he will for certain he will certainly try to get enough of procedure going. by we see can sort of initiate a new election felt that he needs only is simple majority box if we look at the
11:04 pm
figures tonight this vote in the house of parliament he didn't even have that when just sit in our again. parliamentarians vote on a new election so it is not sure whether he can against the will of so many parliamentarians here pushed this election through now and also deny barbara m.p.'s they approved the bill that would stop a new deal departure from the european union so what could be boris johnson's next move then after that defeat. he basically has to go to the european union that's what is what this bill says and has to ask for for location off the bricks a date a he said he doesn't want to do that is this is absolutely against his plans and when and then i asked will he stick to the law he said yes he would sort of obey it
11:05 pm
but i mean those are contradictory things that boris johnson said in that but it's quite clear that he does not want this he wants to avoid this under all circumstances and so he looks to do anything to stop on the law which might come into legal force you over this weekend or by the coming monday so what what. outcome of this is still out who's going to win this power struggle in this mentoring question of the british future is it yet completely oh yeah still a lot of open questions and the clock of course continues to wind down for lawmakers before parliament is suspended next week our correspondent barbara biggs along the story for us tonight in london barbara thank you well here's some of the other stories now that are making headlines around the world iran has released 7 crew members of a detained british flag ship a tanker the stand in peril the ship was taken over by iran's revolutionary guard

island have been flooded and thousands of homes are now uninhabitable the main airport totally destroyed at least 7 people are confirmed dead and that figure is expected to rise dorian has lost strength but its dangerous winds continue and they're heading for the u.s. states of georgia south and north carolina. i want to get more now from journalist must be hard as he is in the cell new providence in the bahamas good evening to you tell me i mean we can only imagine what you've been seeing there in the bahamas with this with these reports of apocalyptic destruction how is the rescue effort going where your well there are rescue and relief operations underway right now here in the bahamas and they're mainly being led by the bahama defense forces but heavily assisted of course by the u.s. coast guard and the british navy who are pitching in with helicopters and boats and

rescue personnel they are reaching some of the affected areas so it specially nabucco in the northeast they're reaching some of the areas because one of the airports on the main island in the south of the island is still operational so they can they can get there and they they can they can come in and that there's evacuation efforts underway bringing that have the injured people out of there now one of the parts that there not been that they've not been able to reach its grand bahama up in the north and that's one of about 50000 people or more were affected by this devastating storm and that has received virtually no aid at all up to this point and the reason for that is is that the work and just don't have the infrastructure in place because it's all been destroyed to safely and distribute that aid and i spoke to one of the helpers from a private company today who wants to bring in water and food into grand bahama with

boats and he said at the moment it's like the blind leading the blind and that sort of gives you a sense of the chaos at the moment and the difficulties that rescuers and the relief efforts are facing i mean it is incredibly bleak picture right now and if there were a list right now what would you say is most needed tonight in the bahamas. right well i think i've been in many acute disaster situations what the people in the affected areas of course needed food clean coal clean water to prevent diseases and medical attention but one thing that is often forgotten that also extremely important is communication and that because the communications networks are down and in many parts of these affected areas especially the more remote one and that's not only important for the helpers to reach the population but it's also important for the population to reach their loved ones for example to family members who are in these affected areas could haven't been able to get

a hold of and of course they're extremely worried because they don't know what happened you see the pictures of the destruction there and you can imagine how how worried the family members are at the moment and they're reaching out on social media there are t.v. and radio programs where people can call in and just put on the record who they're missing and who they're trying to reach so that's one thing that people need here just as much as food and water grant all right of responder bustin hans's there in the bahamas giving us one of the 1st reports about the damage in the islands and the humanitarian aid that is now so badly needed busting thank you hong kong's the chief executive kerry land she has bound to the demands of pro-democracy protesters and withdrawn that controversial extradition bill that sparked months of turmoil in the country the proposal allowing for suspects to be tried in courts in mainland

a fire that's not going to be acceptable. and there were more fires in hong kong over the weekend the city saw heavy clashes between protesters and the authorities during the 13th consecutive week of protests. demonstrators blocked roads and public transport links to the international airport causing gridlock on routes to and from one of the world's busiest transport hubs. a program ocracy activist and somewhat of a spokesman for many of the demonstrators said carrie lamb's announcement was simply an attempt to quell unrest against beijing's growing influence in the region he was drawn to aware that happens behind beijing government beijing and chinese authorities just try to stop protests by saying such. withdraw. and that's just the strategy for beijing hope to. hugh
